I was so excited for the reveals feature on Maps, but some of the sources link to the correct books, but worst of all, the image takes up the entire screen and can't be interacted with except to close. When you share it same thing for the players, takes up their entire screen. That is NOT helpful AT ALL. It's not in a special space for reference later. Just BAM image and then as soon as the DM closes it it's gone. TERRIBLE implementation. Absolute garbage. Please find a better way to do this.
For the record, I LOVE Maps, it's been really amazing so far honestly. I use it all the time. So this feels really frustrating for something that could have been really awesome and it's so poorly implemented (in my opinion, I know). Thank you for the hard work you do already and I sincerely hope you can adjust this somehow for a better experience!
Hi! PM for Maps (and Reveals) here. Which sources link to the (I assume you meant) incorrect books? We found one instance of that shortly after launch (the two Crooked Moon books were swapped), but it was corrected within about 15 minutes of it being reported. If there are more, please report them either here or through a support ticket and I'll get it corrected ASAP.
I don't understand why we can't just reveal any image in any source we have? Nothing from the planescape books are reveal-able which is really disappointing given how helpful it would be to be able to show images of the city to players going there for the first time.
Custom Reveals - This is the big one. I'm paying for 10GB of space and the reveals only appear to include things from official materials. I'm both adding more flavour to existing campaigns, notes, scenes, etc, but when I'm using 100% homebrew campaign stuff, the reveals is essentially "not a feature".
Adding a ⭐on items, or a folder we can choose to move stuff to, so that we can prepare for a game.
Alternatively, it would really nice to have all the items I've favourited in either clickable buttons along the top, or a separate drop down menu away from the massive list.
Nice to have: Put the caption of the item below the item when viewing it in the browser, and a toggle to show or hider the caption to players.
Reveal isn't a bad idea; execution is well to be desired. In my opinion reveal could have been useful if the DM/GM had control of how much was revealed at a time. Perhaps the players only see the side view of the zombie, the part that isn't rotted away. Or they only see the crest of the long fin that runs down a dragon's neck. Also, smaller images would have been a better call. Nobody wants something that takes up their full screen. Speaking of Maps here is a few ideas. Why not allow the creation of maps without having to create a campaign? For me Maps seem like a wasted opportunity for the creation process. Let the DM create their whole campaign with Maps and reveal each of them as their campaign unfolds. This would be good for homebrews and for DMs like me who don't follow an adventure module to the letter. Or put the maps at the front end of campaign design.
Honestly, I would have loved it if the use of Maps wasn't directly tied to setting up a campaign first or selecting for a preload.

Yeah, it definitely feels like it's Maps first, preparation second.
Being able to build 2024 XP designed encounters in the encounter builder, and then apply them to the Maps when desired would be more straightforward, like building templates.

I've tried opting into all cookies for this site in the guest profile (doesn't allow any extensions, including ad blockers) and the feedback button still doesn't appear in Maps. I recall seeing it before. I also don't see Your Privacy Choices link on any page of this website.
Sorry I see now that my router was filtering hotjar.com. I've set an allow rule, so can now see feedback button again.
I've shared this feedback via the official Feedback button, but wanted to share this here for others to share their input and opinions. Overall, I love Maps and find it very helpful and useful! My players love it overall as well. However, there are a few items that I feel are critical to taking this from great to excellent using the existing features that have already been implemented by DnDBeyond as outlined below:
The ability to add private Notes / Text Boxes as a reminder for myself for things like trap triggers, significant loot / plot points, Room numbers/names, etc. Currently, I add an overlay then lock and hide it, but I can't always remember why it's there when there's so many other things happening in the game.
The ability to add shapes with solid fill or add with fill without a border using the existing overlays (ideally with additional shapes such as a start) to add visual elements that aren't available as Stickers (e.g., a large star or pentagram on the floor) or to hide content that is on the actual Map image. Some Player versions of the source maps (e.g., Vanthampur Villa Map 15. from Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus) still have markers indicating key elements on the map such as the trapdoor to V27 in room V2, the circled star in room V10 for the wax sculpture, and the circled start in V18 for the Helmed Horror.
The ability to add our own stickers to supplement the current options. While the current available stickers are great and fulfill most needs, there are still scenarios where I need other options (e.g., a table or bed with different proportions, such as a king-sized bed).
The ability to rotate and resize multiple stickers simultaneously. For example, if I need 10 beds, it is very frustrating to adjust the size and then rotation of each bed individually, but it doesn't work to do either action when multiple stickers are selected simultaneously.
The ability for the DM to hide the token's image from the players. For example, if I have a monster or enemy that has shape-shifted and the party is unaware, having the token display the image of the actual creature (since I need to reference the true monster stat block) can reveal the secret unintentionally. Just renaming the token isn't enough as my players have pointed this out previously.
The new Reveals feature is fantastic! However, none of the items are labelled in the browser, when viewing the item, or when it's revealed and visible to the player.
Please create an option to upload our own reveals to handle homebrew and scenarios for which the image isn't already in the browser (e.g., Liara Portyr in Chapter 1 of Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus).
Once the Reveal is on the DM or Spectator's screen, nothing else in Maps is visible because it covers the entire screen and once the Reveal is closed by the DM or Spectator, they can't see it again. Please make a way to log this or store a thumbnail that can be clicked for a Spectator or DM to track what Reveals have occurred and to look at them again afterward.
The ability for the DM to modify the player's HP as they are taking and/or healing damage. Sometimes my players prefer to use a printed copy of their character sheet, so I need to be able to adjust their HP in Beyond without opening a separate tab to access their entire character sheet page just to adjust their HP.
The ability to rename and reordered the various maps in the drop-down for a campaign. Or at least have them sorted alphabetically, so I can add numbering to the start of the name to order them how I want them.
The ability to switch a player character or their Extra (e.g., Summon, Familiar, Wildshape, etc.) to the Monster side for scenarios when they're allied with the enemy and opposing the rest of the party (e.g., Dominate Person). This appears to only be an option for monsters.
Great start! Really looking forward to user uploaded reveals, hopefully in the near future. In the meantime 1 bug and 2 suggests.
Bug: Some items from sources are not showing up, possibly because they're not technically within a chapter of the book in question. My example is the poster maps of Bral in Spelljammer: Adventures in Space. These are available in the Map Browser, but realistically I would only want these as a reveal, if for example an NPC was outlining to the party the layout of the underside of Bral. This kind of high level map is useful for this but not really for actually putting down player tokens. Ideally all maps should be available as reveal images.
Suggestions:
1. Don't show sources you don't have access to. I'm pretty sure I am seeing every book D&D Beyond has in my list, but any I don't have access to just say "No reveals found". This is just a ton of unneeded clutter.
2. The search is extremely helpful but it would be moreso if when you open it you could see the name of the image so I know what I'm looking at. This is most helpful with things like if I search for something like "giant runes". I see the Giant Runes of Power but don't know which is which.

Was hoping for Dm layer or dynamic lighting, got send players a picture instead. Boo
To be fair, nobody announced Dynamic Lighting...

Whatever problem causes avatars and character sheet backgrounds to disappear, also affects the new Reveal items so that I get an error.

ModeratorPlanescape’s absence seems to be an oversight. I’ll let the devs know.

Hm. A good start, but it still needs some work to be really useful. Here are my suggestions.
BTW, I can no longer find the feedback tab in Maps.
Thanks.
