I created a few maps in Dungeon Alchemist, which has an option to export with animations.
While I was able to successfully import an animated map into VTT, when I showed my players that map next to the flat JPG export, they universally preferred the flat map for two reasons:
The load times were horrible for the animated map
Once loaded, the images were pixelated and movement was therefore a total distraction and not an enhancement.
Ok, I loaded the "Boat (Animated)" map from the DNDBeyond published maps list. The initial load lag is still very apparent. The animation quality is a tad better.

This sounds like it's not feedback for D&D Beyond, but feedback for how Dungeon Alchemist optimises and compresses it's animated map outputs

Well, that might be the answer. Are there DNDB published animated maps to compare with?
