I really wish there was a way to keep a version of characters at every level, or theory-craft them to future levels without using up all your slots. I realize that this might actually be difficult to do without allowing people to circumvent character limits, but it would still be really useful if it can be done. I think it was mentioned as something that would investigated at some point on the chat a while ago, have there been any updates?
With either the Hero or Master subscription, a player can create an unlimited amount of characters. This would allow you to create a new instance for each of the 20 levels of a character. Seeing as one has the ability to 'Copy' a character, this would allow easier leveling up of the alternates without having to rebuild it in its entirety.
Seeing as this functionality is already in place, is there a different update you're looking for, or possibly something I'm missing?
with all due respect, it would be nice to have the feature requested rather than 20 characters per...character.
I would use this as a DM, ie quest on level 3; escort the Duke (NPC1 lvl3) through enemy territory... the duke is observed to be proficient but not a great combatant, the duke and the party go their separate ways, and for one reason or another the duke (NPC1 lvl8) returns... but he leveled up! well it would be a great feature to fleish out occasional characters, kinda sketch their path out so they can be utilized at the appropriate level for the players to interact with as the DM intends.
I realise I can use 20, 40 or 907 slots but without folders it's very cumbersome. I actually have a spreadsheet with 20 characters for 20 levels each to specify what these (preferred NPCs) have at their disposal at any given level. more to the point, shouldn't a digital toolset and subscription eliminate the need for managing a DMs NPCs with your own spreadsheets?
I agree with Gigaflop, having the ability to have it within one character sheet (you can think of it as historical versions if you will), would be very useful. I think it would be great even if these versions counted against your character total (so you'd have to have at least a Hero subscription to make it practical.

I have a 110 characters. Probably 20-30 of them are duplicates. Long Live the Yearly Master Tier Subscription!

I think it's really cool to be able to make a "snapshot" or "archive" copy of a character as it levels.
