Dev is active with weekly updates on current projects, Q&A, etc. So there's no going dark. Their answer on this particular matter has not changed: there are no plans, as they are focusing on many other features, a class features overhaul, and the implementation of features not yet added from previously released books. They may do in future.
Given the scope of what they have, the speed of previous projects and the fact there is a "5.5" book coming out in a couple of years that is going to update a lot of currently existing content to new rules and such, which D&D Beyond would have to dedicate their time into getting that up and running and doing all the changes.... I wouldn't be expected homebrew Classes for a good few years, yet. Maybe they'll surprise us. Wouldn't hold my breath.

Is there any update to this? It would be great to see more of that instead of special dice (all of which I appreciate). But I have a number of classes I'd like to make for friends that play online.
There is no update, and it's highly unlikely that DDB will ever have homebrew classes. I'd look for a different character builder like Dwarven Forge if you want to make custom classes.

Leaving OGL 1.0(a) untouched and making SRD 5.1 CC-BY-4.0 is a great first step. The next is a promise to do the same for future editions. Here's a discussion thread on that.
I've been using GM Binder for years to create my own custom full classes. I've made 4 over the years: Vanguard (a martial psionics mix), Commander (if battlemaster was a class), Brawler (monk but no mysticism), and Sage (alternative full caster). I no longer update vanguard or commander, but still often update the other two and have wanted to put it on DnD Beyond for a while. It's the main reason I, and my group, doesn't use DnD Beyond. But it's not an option, unless you're Matthew Mercer. Lookin' at you, Blood Hunter.
I don’t think it will ever happen, the overhead on the coding alone would make the site unusable. The current home brewing system takes a while to update, and thats just because of how it checks for it it’s being potently publicly published.
And adding CLASS homebrewing and the time and complexity to ensure uniqueness is far too great to make it worthwhile.
Personally I’d like to see it, but realistically it’s far to complex to just have it eat up useful resources.

Yep. So... have we had an update on this? Or has the developer gone dark?
Neither.

DDB is great, but it could be better. Here are some things I think could improve DDB
I've been using GM Binder for years to create my own custom full classes. I was hoping for this to change, I want to have a couple of homebrewed classes but it seems this is not the expectation right now.
We need this in Dndbeyond
yes this would make dnd more fun
sadly, it is 2025 and it has still not happend

That does seem the most likely thing, so new homebrew classes can only come through officially printed partner content.
