Hi, some of the race options (eg. Dark Elf) and subclass options (eg barbarian totem warrior) are not available for selection. This means anyone wanting to play them can't use the app as there is no way of adding them as homebrew.
For the beat test only the material form the SRD and the Basic rules are available.
The other source books will be available at the final realease. The price for that is still to be announced.
Does this mean that if I want to use the app and play a Dark Elf Barbarian Totem Warrior, for example, I will have to pay again for the player handbook to use it online? My confusion I must confess comes actually more from the fact you have left that out but have seemed quite happy to add a load of new languages into the mix.
You will also need to fix the way the levelling works as I just tried to level up a wizard from level 1 to 2 and it will not allow me to add any new spells or a subclass.
Also, why are the only feats available the Deep Gnome magic (which only Gnomes can use) and Grappler, surely it would be sensible to test a variety of them, especially those that affect stats, such as Alert or Tough which can make significant differences to a character.
When creating a human variant on the quick build it does not automatically assign the options for which stat they increase (such as Intelligence for a wizard).
I would think the best way to actively test the Beta would be to have as many options as possible at least from the PHB and then encourage players to use this during their games. With the limited options through only having one subclass, with some of the races and a large number of feats missing, the inability to create and use homebrew options, and the fact you must have the internet to use it which I don't where I play, is limiting the ability to test this adequately.
Yes you have to pay for the PHB in DDB, because physical book and digital version are different products (exactly same material but different format).
The beta test was always meant to use SRD and Basic Rules only.
The character builder has a lot to fix in the next weeks, yes, but the devs are working on it.
I know that most people who already own the book and possibly anyone else who doesn't, including me will just abandon D&D beyond if you do that, there are other ways of creating character sheets that are automated that have been around a lot longer and incorporate a lot more info, including the player handbook and unearthed arcana, and that also have the ability to add homebrew fairly easily. You also only need one player handbook to play as a group often, the first group I played with we only had one and we created our games from that and used paper. It does you no favours to block the character side of the player handbook behind a pay wall. Monsters, items, and rules and the other books I could understand, but certainly not characters side of the player handbook as that is what will get the majority of traffic and most people just use what is in that. You won't increase sales much by locking that up, you are just going to push users away who may consider purchasing other elements.

Official WotC material is beeing used by FantasyGround, Roll20 and now DDB. With DDB there is the opportunity with a subscription, to buy only 1 PHB and then share.
I can understand yout point about "paying two times the same product", but the PHB has a copyright, is the product of the work of some people, so it must come with a price, in my opinion. In any case, let's keep this thread for the character sheet bugs, you can find different threads for the topics you mentioned.
Got one more to add for the stalls and bugs for Character creation.
Trying to choose spells for the Tiefling Warlock seems to lock it up and give me an error. I can choose cantrips perfectly but cant seem to choose my spells. Otherwise ive had no issues so far! Loving the set up and style of it and cant wait to get on the subscription and unlock the whole thing! Great work yall!
I cant seem to get past the Class choice. I go to the main page, from there on to Character Builder. I select a Standard build. next I pick a race (Mountain Dwarf) and then on to the Choose a Class page.
There I pick Cleric, select Add Class on the 'pop up', and here is where I hit a wall.
It now goes into a spinning loading circle, and then just hangs there. no progress.

Otherwise, it looks fantastic so far
Yes clerics and druids seems to be laggy right now. It has been reported to the devs.
I just created a character in less than five minutes – great stuff!
One thing I noticed as a nice to have, is at the end of the character creation work out to equipment, and it listed the equipment auctions your character would receive based on class/race/background, it would be great to be able to just quickly indicate which of that equipment you chose, and be automatically added to the character sheet. As it stands right now, I had to search for each item, and add it manually.
It didn't completely slow down the process, but a point and click option would be great in my opinion. Thanks!
It's possible someone already mentioned these things, but I'm not gonna read all the comments, so here's my preliminary feedback:
I made a level 1 human paladin noble.
The character sheet at the end isn't adding proficiency to my attacks.
"Holy symbol" wasn't a searchable phrase in the equipment list. I had to specifically type in "amulet."
I would love to be able to choose equipment instead of typing in and searching each piece from the list hidden behind the equipment adding pop-up box.
I chose Persuasion in my Paladin skills and then got it again from Noble background, but I should be able to replace duplicates with any skill proficiency, as the rules say. I should also be able to create a custom background.
Personality traits, ideals, bonds, flaws: I know that your background lists the suggested ones at the bottom of the page, but I'd like to be able to select the ones associated with the background instead of typing them in, copy/pasting, or whatever. But ALSO include the option to write one in and edit existing ones.
Really liking the UI. It's quite slick, easy to click through and read the relevant information - though the font is a bit small in places, particularly on the final generated profile page.
Also confirming that Cleric stalls out the character creation process so it cannot be completed. Also, once selected, since this did not finish applying, I can't load the profile for the character at all. In both Firefox and Chrome, the window just spins the dial at me, like it's permanently stuck updating.
After creating my monk character, Unarmed Strikes do not appear under Attacks on the profile overview page. They're not a weapon, so this does not appear under equipment (nor does "Martial Arts"). Basic/base attacks for a specific class should always show under "Attack", and not having the information there feels very unintuitive - especially if you're a brand new player relying on the character sheet to tell you this information while you get used to the game.
Ability Score Improvements are currently listed on the class page and are updated here. I actually missed that this was the page to edit these details and spent a while poking the Abilities page forlornly instead. Having the option to update/add these on the Abilities page if you're updating things manually would be very useful. Additionally, a red highlight or marker to indicate you've missed updating a (new) ability score would also not go amiss.

Each time I refresh there's new stuff so I'm just going to make a simple list of what I've seen so far.
I think overall the only change I'd really want is for Background to show up earlier in the process. Probably actually do.. RACE / BACKGROUND / CLASS just cuz of the potential skill overlap. For example if you make a Half-Elf Rogue a player can accidentally choose Slight of Hand 3 times and I didn't see a corrective text to keep me from doing this.
On Backgrounds, I'd like to see the bonds / flaws / etc able to be randomized and then edited after. I think that'd be something pretty easy to add and probably would be, but figured I'd mention it anyway.
The Equipment Manager's great. Obvious addition I'll state obviously is for the class & background equipment to auto populate the inventory. Such as choice between rolling coinage vs buying an Explorer's kit. Then having the weapons, armor choice, and rope + odds and ends throw in and 10 gp to look at. That'll help speed up an obviously tedious part of play and maybe bring back the art form of inventory management to players.

I am having a similar problem - tried to create a Hill Dwarf Sorcerer. Was able to select 3 of 4 cantrips before having the spell list become unresponsive and the transparent loading screen remain persistent behind the window. I am now unable to edit this character and it locks up on a loading screen. I'll keep trying to load it in case it might be a server traffic issue, I hope that the character data hasn't become corrupt by bailing out of a half complete spell list screen.
When creating my Tiefling Warrlock I wasn't able to add more than 1 spell. After I added Eldritch Blast, I could click on add for any spell but nothing happened.
My other issue came when adding equipment. Equipment isn't showing up after I add it to my inventory. Not sure how to equip armor and weapons.
Thanks Again & Great Job

When are you adding the other subclasses?
Some of the classes seem to stall. The only one i tried right now that didn't work is the Cleric.
i can create a thief, a ranger, but when i tried to create a cleric, the screen stalls.
Awesome!

"Dat deeeemon come callin'"
Xaviorious Queue'nn (Tiefling Warlock)
Bug/oversight: weapons with the versatile tag such as the longsword and the battleaxe only show the 1 handed damage die.
Trying the builder.

I'd really like to have the option to upload my own character portrait in the future, any plans on that?

Or so says my 2 coppers. <3 it all.
