I've been experimenting with the Homebrew options (kudos on the various updates btw, it's much improved since I last tried it) but I've run into something I can't seem to do, which is to emulate the Finesse effect, whereby an attack will use the better of two ability scores (DEX or STR).
What I'd like to propose therefore is that all customisable Actions gain the ability to specify multiple Ability Score Types, rather than only one.
For maximum flexibility this would ideally be done as checkboxes so that a user can select as many as they like, with D&D Beyond selecting the best when calculating modifiers. If this is too complex, a few common ones such DEX/STR, and INT/WIS could be added so that we can at least emulate effects that already exist in the game.
On a related note (to avoid a second thread) we could also do with the option to specify how to actually apply an Ability Score Type to an attack; currently it is applied to both hit chance and damage, but I'd really like to be able to choose to apply to only one of these. For example, if creating an "off-hand" bonus action, normally weapons receive no bonus damage but custom actions always do and would need to be customised by players to correct them.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
You can already add weapon properties in Homebrew. Modifier Type - Weapon Property, Modifier Subtype - Finesse.
When it comes to Ability Score Type to an attack, I agree wholeheartedly. For my campaign I'm trying to create custom Orcish and Elvish common weapons. Elvish weapons are going to have an inherent +1 to attacks and weigh a little lighter, and Orcish weapons deal an additional STR modifier damage and weigh a little more (I know that custom weight is already implemented). I can go into customize and fiddle with it to make it how I want, but having addition damage to add to the weapon based on Ability Scores and standalone +/- to attacks automated in Homebrew would be nice.
