I've been using the campaign manager for awhile. Some feedback:
* Confused terminology between player and character
Sometimes you say player when it should say character. For instance, under "Deactivated Characters", it says "These players do not consume any of your player slots".
In addition, as near as I can tell, the "player slots" are actually "character slots".
* Help needed
You need help, at least tooltips, for at least terms like "DEACTIVATE" and "REMOVE". One can guess what that means but they feel like potentially risky or dangerous choices and there's nothing that explains what they mean.
And in general the lack of even rudimentary documentation really sucks. Using the forums as documentation is really lame. As a user, I do not want to rely on often outdated, incorrect, or incomplete posts from other users on how to use a product. As an example, I think the "player slot" limit is maybe 13. I'm guessing based on what I've gleaned from here and there. It would be great if the campaign manager actually had documentation that explained that.
* Needs to be much easier to move characters between players and campaigns
It's really awkward to try to manage campaigns, players, and characters. Not all my players really understand (or even much value) D&D Beyond and the campaign manager. It's really tough needing to send links and walk players through things. Sending links is good some of the time, but that shouldn't be the only way to move a character to a campaign. As DM, I ought to be able to just move characters between players and campaigns. This feels like basic housekeeping to me.
Player and character are often interchangable when refering to player characters.
Deactivate, remove, and unassign do give some description of what they do in their warning boxes. Though I agree some description elsewhere would reduce the initial fear and confusion.
The campaign can have 12 active characters at a time (including unassigned characters). You can deactivate a character to leave it in a campaign, but not use one of the 12 slots. It can still be edited, but content sharing (if enabled on the campaign) is disabled for a deactivated character. The 12 slot limit also needs to be shown upfront.
I haven't had a problem moving characters between campaigns or players, but it probably shoud be easier. For example a "add a character" button at the top of the campaign, instead of having to copy the link again. And if a character is already in a different campaign, have an option to remove them from that campaign from that screen. Trading characters is easy, but unintuitive (brings me back to needing explanations upfront). I don't think DMs should be allowed to move PCs to different campaigns or players though.
