TL;DR version: don't rewrite the Player's Handbook as a character creator. Let me make a character. Your character creator isn't nearly as good as stuff on the secondary market. I've got no reason to use it.
Now the details. The character creator flow isn't good. There are also bugs. Flow first:
Look at Forged Anvil or Walter Kammerer's 5th Edition Character Sheet app.
Race and Class and Stats should be easy to select up front, but crap like feats and languages are flavor that players add onto character concepts. I'll often rip through four or five ideas in the 5e app in ten minutes before I come up with a character I like. I can barely choose a race and features in ten minutes with your generator. Why choose wotc when there are better secondary market options?
Bugs: in the ten minutes I wasted with your page, here are some things I noticed:
First, why isn't Volo's Guide in your character gen app? I wanted to make a Goblin. The only advantage WotC has over the secondary market stuff is that you have access to all your material. Again, the secondary market stuff is better than WotC out the door if you don't take advantage of your own product line.
I selected variant human, but then the landing page showed me the rules for both human types. I had to spend time deciding if you'd sent me to the wrong page. I finally figured out that wasn't actually a bug, just poor design. Once I got over that, I moved to selecting details. The selection page is clunky - you're showing me crap about age and so forth, when I'm trying to make a character, here.
So okay, languages. Why can I select telepathy? What the actual?
Fine. Feats.
Grappler and Svirfneblin Magic?! That's all? For a Human? What are you guys doing? You're wasting my time here.
For the beta, only the rules and options provided in the D&D 5th edition SRD , D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, Elemental Evil Companion are available in Beyond. Once the full platform launches later this summer, the core rule books and others will be available for purchase, and the content within will be available for those that purchase, or have access through a DM's subscription.
Used it on my Iphone6 and made a quick character. Then used it on my PC and made another one.
Observations:
Might be a good idea to allow the same flexibility in changing classes after one is picked, specially when you take the edit character option. Remaking a whole character simply because you changed your mind about a starting class can get tedious.
Didn't see and option for the revised classes, like the Ranger. Will the Unearthed Arcana and character revisions be available?
The movement doesn't reflect subracial modifications. Wood Elf shows that it has 30ft movement, when it should have 35ft.

Do you mean after the character sheet has been generated, or during the creation steps?
I just built my character, but the options were minimal. this is understandable with it being beta. Was wondering if it would help to add a "Custom Content button" that allows you to add information in to the areas. For example: if you are playing a cleric and you need to put in a different domain that isn't life. The button would be there for you to add, oh lets say, War Domain.
Thank you for all the hard work you guys are doing. This stuff is solid!

The other options will be purchasable at the final release.

Two of your obervations (races and feats) are tied to the beta process; the free version only has material that can obtained free legally (Basic/SRD and EEPG). It doesn't contain the full PHB, DMG, MM, or any supplemental book. Yet. Those will be purchasable in the future. So the two feats and 6 backgrounds are only due to the fact they are in the SRD or EEPG. Any char-gen currently out there that is using more than those two sources without a license from WotC (such as Fantasy Grounds) is using WotC IP illegally.
As to telepathy; right now the program treats all languages in the MM as a valid choice. Telepathy is a language in the MM. Hopefully, they'll find a way to "limit" them to the SRD options at first and allow DM override into MM options.
Seriously, its a beta. If it cruffs your style, go back to your fanmade Excel spreadsheet.
I love the breakdown for the ability scores, but with he point buy method, I don't like how you have to scroll between the numbers you're adjusting and the last 3 ability scores (Int, Wis, Cha) Maybe either design it so you adjust the numbers in the breakdown chart, or some other design so that you can see both on the screen without scrolling. I hope that was easy to understand, it's difficult to describe.
When you are on the page assigning ability scores it would be nice if it listed or highlighted the ability scores most important for your chosen class.

Haven't dug too far into things yet, but as I was trying to build my Warlock, I couldn't help notice that Hex is nowhere to be seen. Pretty key spell missing for a warlock. Was looking forward to using what I created on the ap, but I'll check back once the full thing launches.

I notices some backgrounds for characters are missing such at the Hermit. when trying to add equipment several of them don't load. cant add darts or bracers to character inventory.

Might need to look into the Monk and Barbarian classes, their movement speed bonuses obtained after a certain level is reached isn't reflected on the character sheet. Did a lvl 20 Monk, and it's movement speed was still 30ft. Not sure if the intention is for the user to keep track of it, or if the app will change it as levels are obtained.

My mistake, didn't check it properly before posting. Did a lvl 10 base monk and didn't notice I had to manually assign the levels to the class for their class features to take effect.

I see. thank you for the heads up!

ASI's currently let me go above the 20 stat cap in the character generator

On both situations the starting class can't be changed after one is chosen. It allows me to change the small stuff, but not the class.
Why can't i build a dwarf War Cleric.
