There are some common mistakes with resting that new players make. Specifically, it's that resting too often can unbalance the game. The DMG has some rules about the frequency with which it's suggested that player is able to take short and/or long rests.
With certain classes, like the warlock and the monk, it can be very tempting to take a short rest after each encounter. Doing this will quickly unbalance these classes compared to the rest. It would be great if your rules about short/long rests included something to limit the frequency with which characters can rest.
I don't think they are looking for suggestions for rule changes to the game but rather feedback about the site itself.
That said,
If players are taking too many short rests there are several things a DM can do to discourage this.
First, are they resting in the middle of a dungeon? Interrupt their rest with "random" encounters. Did they just kill the guards at the entrance and now they are stopping to rest? How about there's a guard shift change ten minutes into resting and they are suddenly attacked with their guard down.
Are they leaving the dungeon to rest? While they are gone have things change in the dungeon. Previously cleared areas are now dangerous again! The other inhabitants of the dungeon have discovered the bodies from the last encounter and are now on high alert.
Give them time constraints. Short rests in 5e take one hour. Give missions where time matters so taking too many rests will will have a consequence to the mission success. Any NPC's present with the party can also help voice a sense of urgency when the party is dragging their feet.
We're currently running through Out of the Abyss at my table and I've implemented rests as a difficult thing to come by, due to the nature of the campaign (outsiders running from the law). Over a single "night" they may be able to snag a short rest, but a long rest (and the ability to truly relax and recuperate) requires food, drink, a safe place and a few days.
Availability of rest falls mainly on the DM, not the players--they're going to want regeneration when they can get it.
Sorry guys. The intention of the post wasn't to start a DM debate about resting.
Yes, there are lots of rules in several places about resting. I'll reiterate: there are rules in the DMG that aren't included here about the expected frequency of short and long rests. I find that these rules outside of the PHB are useful for new players and game masters who may be interested in short rests (for example) too often. Yes, there are lots of ways for a DM to help players recognize that they should be resting less often. Wouldn't it be great if the rules clearly stated the info to begin with? That's where my post comes in. I'm suggesting this site display a little of the DMG information so that when a new player looks for rules about taking a (continuing with my theme) short rest they get all of the needed info at once.
I don't think I'm talking about adding more than a paragraph or two.
This suggestion doesn't require any player or DM feedback. It's for the people who run the site.

It already states that you can only take a long rest and benefit from it once every 24 hrs.
