This is something that I have wondered about for a while, but was brought to the forefront of my mind as I contemplate the new Strixhaven setting. How are people managing their inventory for items that players own, but that they leave in a set location that they rent or own; rather than carrying on their person?
While this is something that I imagine would come up in many campaigns, it is assumed in the strixhaven lore that players probably have a dorm room or an apartment. I was hoping for a container in the Inventory Management system that could be used to indicate items that you "leave in your dorm room" for example.
How are others handling this kind of a situation? Last night, I added a "keelboat" container and renamed it to "dorm room", but obviously this is less than ideal.
Id welcome any thoughts from developers or others in this forum on how this could be handled!
Your answer is the correct one. Set another container, generally a chest as your 'Home Storage'. Customize the name to make sure it's clear what the chest is representing, and then unequip the container since you're not carrying your dorm room around with you. An example, from my artificer's sheet.
Why would they need to do that? Your DM can see your sheet, and even if they couldn't, they could say "Turns out your dorm room was robbed while you were out. Read me off the stuff in your dorm room container and I'll tell you whether it's still there or not". Plenty of ways a DM can muck with inventory on a specific character's sheet on DDB if they need to.

Thank you! I am glad to know that I am on the right track :)
Just a note, this only works if your DM has made it clear that the contents of that location are safe.
If they are not guaranteed safe, then your DM needs to make a character representing 1+ characters location-based storage.
As for not being safe, this could be a result of a robbery, or destruction of the site.
