I feel like I saw a thread for this, and that the answer is "no we will probably never get dark mode" on this site... just curious if that has changed because I couldn't find the original thread :)
Dark mode (or Underdark Mode as it's called) has released for character sheets, and there's an easter egg in the encounter builder for triggering an alpha version of dark mode there. As for site-wide dark mode, there's no word on that at this time.
for site-wide brightness issues, i have just this second found a Chrome extension to control window brightness on a per-page basis. it's called "adjust screen brightness".

I would just be grateful for the option on the Forums.

I agree!
It has been 3 years since this post was made, but I guess still no plans on a dark mode?
You can force dark mode with browser extensions or setting a flag in edge browser, it works for 80% of the site, but there are still giant bright ares.
I used the forums for the first time last night and had a splitting headache for about 6 hours today. I never get headaches. Like literally the last time I had headches was 2000
No it has not changed and I know why they won't do a proper dark mode for the whole site. I decided a few weeks back to look into their css code because even the styling extension I am using "Sylus" isn't perfect. I downloaded the entire css file to have a look at the code, all 75 thousand plus lines of it. After opening the css file my IDE's linter had a meltdown and filed a complaint with the US Department of Labor. I forget the exact number of errors it spit out but it was in the mid hundreds. There errors ranged from syntax errors to typos and obsolete code. If I remember correctly there was even a threat of being fired in the comments of the code if anyone changed a certain section of the code.
I am guessing that they are using REACT or similar tech stack to build the site and a CSS compiler. To put is simply the source code for the entire site is a hot mess that would take an army of devs weeks if not months to fix and implements a proper dark mode for the site. It's probably not economically feasible, and since to Corporate Conglomerate that owns WoTC only cares about money, it's a safe be that the chances of a proper dark mode ever being implemented is Slim to None, and Slime was given his pink slip and escorted out by security.

That is interesting, sad and somehow not shocking.
Since most modern apps and platforms offer dark mode, it makes DDB seem like it is struggling to keep up, lazy and behind the times.

it would be very nice if we just had settings and turned on dark mode. Actually, I want that on all websites. :)

I personally use a web extension called "Dark Reader" when its on, it makes every website/webpage for your browser dark mode.
There are a few like weird exception spots, like the occasional text chat box. But other than that is been pretty QoL
"Not getting cut into bloody littles slices, That's the key to a sound plan."
So do I, but it doesn't fix the input boxes and the colours really aren't that pleasing, with the weird brown, and cyan.
