Hi everyone. After a long winter I decided to switch from v3.0/3.5 to 5ed. usually I would DM in person but since I moved to a different contry now I need to take advantage of technology. v3.0/3.5 is no longer an option.
Then I found out about D&D Beyond and started doing some characters migraiton and noticed that not all PHB char options are available by default. They need to be purchased.
I'm considering to do it but question I have: how complete is the spells list? Because if you go to Marketplace link as advertised they mention additional "57 spells". The PHB covers ~350 spells.
Many of the spells in the PHB are also in the Basic Rules and/or the System Reference Document (aka SRD), And as such are available here for free..On DDB, the SRD content is combined with the Basic Rules and just called Basic Rules. So the “57 spells” reference in the PHB marketplace page means there are 57 spells in the PHB that aren’t in the Basic Rules/SRD, and buying the PHB here gives you access to them. You already have free access to the other spells for free.
In principle I guess I'll take the "focused" approach and buy what I miss (and keep using my printed books).
I would say digital copy would help a lot when playing using the computer (meaning: search on the document) but to buy twice the same material wouldn't make me happier.
Be careful there is a breaking point that its cheaper to buy the book especially if you get a coupon. Each thing you buy lowers the price of a book. I think generally if it gets to about $15 or so and you get a coupon picking up the book becomes worth it.
Also, just going to add, that last time I did the maths, it works out cheaper to buy the essentials kit, that gives you a few bits that are useful and also includes coupons for the dnd beyond version of the adventure included in the kit and half off of the player handbook. So buying that and using the coupon can end up cheaper than buying the phb on it's own sometimes.
If you don't want to go digging through all the sources to find classes, background, races, spells, and more, you can browse classes and races via the Game Rules menu options on this site. The list entries include the source(s) where one can find what's listed. You won't be able to select the entries in the lists from sources purchased things you do not have, but you will know where to find them if you want to purchase them individually.
Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
anyone know how to purchase races or classes seperatly from the sourcebooks?
If you go into the book that the option is found in, then scroll down, you'll see the individual purchasing options
Thanks that helps. it does not look like you can do that so you might want to improve on making that more accessible and easier to find if you improve the website
Doesn't look like you can do that? Not sure what you mean - that's exactly how you do it, merely be scrolling through the description of literally any product on the Marketplace.
If I buy the books on DnD Beyond. Do I get the books as PDFs too? I want Volos guide to monsters but I also want to read it when I dont have access to the internet.

Hello there Fruitsallad,
In order to read the DDB books offline, there is an app for IOS and Android devices called “D&D Beyond.” Once you have downloaded it, open it up, sign in with the same details you used on this website, and download it by tapping on “My Account” followed by “My Content” and then on the download icon opposite the image of the cover of the book you are have purchased.
so you go onto the sourcebook you want. scroll down and you will see separate items. add one to your cart or as much as you want
Correct. Which is what I thought you were asking how to do, and Davedamon explained. That's why I'm confused when you now say "it does not look like you can do that." Or are you just saying it isn't obvious enough that that is how you find those other purchase options?

To be clear though - those are eBook versions of anything you've bought from Beyond, and only readable in the app. They are not PDFs you can save separately. There are no PDFs of the 5E books available from any legal source.
These products are marginally more expensive than at a gaming store. Much less if you buy used. Theres a certain price gouging point I wont touch. Not that I don’t have what I need but. I bought your $300+ collection for $75 and got the essentials kit with it so, chew on that for a bit if you want to make better revenue
I don't know where you bought or what specific products you bought but that doesn't match prices I've seen at legal gaming shops. There are special circumstances you are choosing not to explain in your pricing stated above. In all gaming stores unless I luck out on some sort of sale (which DnDBeyond also has) the prices match the sticker price. DnDBeyond prices are comparable to gaming store prices with a small cost break due to not being on paper and with occasional sales and regular coupon codes can do considerably better. They generally match Amazon physical products you lose the paper flipping but gain the creation tools.
Hello there Bronzatto,
I think the 57 additional spells it mentions and lists are the spells not included in the Basic Rules.

Not sure if there is an official announcement that anyone can point me to or a better place to ask the question, but...
does anyone know if the 5 campaign limit on Master Tier subscriptions is going to sunset on December 31 as previously announced?
I no longer see any language on the marketplace page indicating that limit was temporary and would revert back to only 3 campaigns.
TIA!
They will NOT be reducing it back to three, no. Not for a while anyway.
