I am told, and searches indicate that the official information on Bugbears being played as a PC race is in Volo's Guilde to Monsters, BUT I've scoured the whole book and can't find anything. Where exactly is it in the book? What Page? If it's not in Volo's Guilde to Monsters, is it someplace else?
Bugbears are also in the 5E Eberron sourcebook, I really don’t understand why they change “monster” races every time they republish them.
Distinct settings distinct reworkings. It's understandable for an individual worldbuilder to put their distinct spin on things, and when Eberon became an official setting, part of the "fun" is variations.
That said, need for standards or base lines is probably something understood by Wizards, so I'm thinking that was part of the intent behind MMM.

Eberron bugbears are identical to the ones from Volo's Guide. They didn't even get stats printed in the physical edition of Rising From the Last War, just a note that they were an available race.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

The Art Wizard of Oaktown
I found it! Finally. For others searching... it's on page 119 of Volo's Guilde to Monsters.
The Art Wizard of Oaktown
Yeah, it's listed under "Monstrous Adventurers" with the other goblinoids, Kobolds, Orcs, and Yuan-ti Pureblood
Be aware Bugbears are also in the new Mordenkainen's book, and their entry is wildly different.

Mystic v3 should be official, nuff said.

Bugbears should be listed under Awesome.
