Is it true that D&D Beyond is getting rid of the use of the word Phylactery or perhaps it is WotC? I saw a post about it in a forum, recently. If so, I would like to lodge a racism complaint. Being Jewish and growing up orthodox and wearing phylacteries and playing D&D, I thought it was great to see them in the game. I know they are generally used in connection with Liches, but it's a really cool to see them in D&D lore. I have played since 1980. Please say this ridiculousness is not so. Again, if it is, just point me to where I lodge my formal complaint and I will do so. It seems like it would be saying, "We don't want Jewish content in our game!!""
Pathfinder got rid of the term. I haven't seen an official announcement about Wizards doing it one way or another.
Also, fwiw, I'm also Jewish, and I also never had a problem with phylactery. I can't tell you how old I was before I even knew there was an English word for them, they were always just tefillin. I actually heard the terms in reverse, the D&D lich's phylactery before the English word for the synagogue phylactery. I remember asking my dad, "like a lich?" Luckily, he also played D&D, so he knew what I was talking about.
I will say, I understand they're coming from a good place of not wanting to insult people, and I appreciate that. But it kind of feels like a solution in search of a problem.
I've seen a few random people online complaining about the term being racist as it relates to the idea of Blood Libel, but I've heard nothing about WotC actually planning to remove the term from the game.

"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
