They are saying everything 5E will work in the new Edition. (It is a new edition is there are new core books) so what are the plans to support the different character build options?
If I have the old books and did not buy the new core books, will I still be able to use dndbeyond to build my characters for 5E? Or will we be forced to buy the new books? There is enough changes to the character creations that I am wondering how or if DnDbeyond will the old 5E system.
In addition to the FAQ, we can extrapolate a bit from MMM - there almost certainly will just be “legacy” versions of backgrounds, races, etc. which will be available and supported in the player creator. That’s speculation, of course, but is the logical conclusion from Wizards clear statements that they want to keep supporting the old content, rather than treat One D&D as a hard break from 5e.
I don't think it will be any different than it currently is. Keep in mind that "One D&D" isn't a new edition, it's an ongoing revision/rebalance of 5e. 5e was pretty much intended to be the D&D going forward.
I imagine the PHB, MM and DMG will be given the MToF and VGtM treatment - given legacy status. They'll be taken off the market, but if you already have them, you'll keep them.
Adventures will almost certainly be kept as they are, possibly the statblocks might have two versions - one as they are and one in the form of MotM, to maintain unified formatting. That's speculative though.
I've never ready the setting guides etc to see how they could be integrated.

I agree with the idea of Legacy Status, for a lot of 5e stuff. OneD&D is essentially gonna be D&D 5.5, in a manner of speaking, and while some stuff will transfer over (such as when 3.0 books transferred over to 3.5), a lot of stuff is just gonna be considered Legacy info.
I do not want to use oned&d. If the 5E content is made legacy, it will force new players/DMs to use oned&d. Which I feel this is a bad thing, because it would take away the choice for new players/DMs to use 5E content.
Given what they intend to do to clerics at the moment with all the nerfs and making Spiritual Weapon a concentration spell. I will not be using One Dnd in the future.

New players will most likely want to play D&D, and once oneD&D comes out then THAT will be the current version of D&D that everyone will be learning and buying.
This is what has happened with every new edition since 1e, though. And yes, it has caused anger with every new edition.
Based loosely on Douglas Adams: “And then a new Version of the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”

Nothing has been announced. People might be speculating, but that’s all it is at this point.
Everything we know regarding One D&D is covered by the FAQ. Anything beyond that is pure speculation.

I'm guessing legacy status
