I was already growing quite disappointed with WotC's spotty quality when it came to its books already before this trash fire. I'm certainly not buying a single penny's worth of product until this situation is resolved... IF it is resolved.
I have decided to go ahead and disable the auto-renewal of my DndBeyond subscription. (it will expire in early March) It will remain that way until WotC issues a statement they will a) remain on the OGL 1.0a, or b) if a new OGL is released, the OGL 1.0a is still an option. (ie, remains irrevocable as intended)
If WotC refuses to the above and the courts step in and force them to maintain the OGL 1.0a by the original contractual intent. I will still terminate my relationship with WotC and will use the money I would be spending on DnD to help drive supporting a real OpenDnD where WotC has no rights accept what is provided by the license that is provided by the OpenDnD movement. (even if that movement is forced to change the name so it doesn't contain the acronym DnD)
It really hurts to say that as my love for D&D will turn 38 this year. It feels like Sauron bought DnD and the Battle of the Five Armies is about to take place. (Hasbro, WotC, Shareholdres, Players, and Creators) A war of attrition is about to start.
I don't have a D&DB subscription but the video of the VTT seen a couple of months ago was great and I would buy it, whatever the price, subscription or not, but... No, I won't accept what they are doing after more than 20 years of OGL that contributed in creating a great community. Everybody plays D&D, and it is the door to RPG thanks to the ORIGINAL OGL (not this mocking copy). You want to play fantasy? You are covered with the main game from WotC. You want OSR, you are covered thanks to the OGL. You want seperheroes, I am sure somebody thought about it and created some OGL related RPG.
I hope someone else takes the mantle.
The community, the real one (not the one they "say" they care about) needs it.
I think in this instance if WotC don't pull back on this I'm pretty likely to jump ship to Pathfinder 2e.
What's largely kept me from switching despite it being more suited for our table modularity-wise has been laziness, it's easier to stay than learn a new system for my generic fantasy needs. I've only ever fully learned new systems before when wanting to do sci-fi stuff... Adding a negative to remaining with D&D (Supporting practices I don't like) is enough to get me to make a switch I probably already should have.
Truth be told conscious boycotts are hard, I've only managed to keep it up with one particular gaming company and that's largely cause they somehow keep ending up in the news for newer and newer controversies-
So I can't really say "I shall never purchase another WotC product again!" but I can say... Whenever I begrudgingly buy things from companies I dislike its usually cause I can't get the experience elsewhere, and I can't see anything D&D offers I can't get elsewhere

Understood, but there is a legal interpretation that says Pathfinder 2e is subject to the new OGL 1.1. I hope that is not the case for all the P2e players out there.

At this point, for me, it doesn't make much difference if the company tries to walk back some of the terms of OGL 1.1 or says it's going to "listen to [our] feedback" and postpone it. Trust has been lost. Their intent is clear. Even if they say they're going to "take time to consider" things, that's usually corporate-speak for "we'll wait for the dust to settle and then implement the change without any fanfare."
Honestly, the fact that they still haven't released a statement to assuage concerns/outrage speaks volumes as well. They've had more than enough time to find the right PR spin for this, but the continuing silence is not a good indicator, IMO.
My biggest take away from the badge stuff is this: WotC wants to differentiate between Official content and licensed content. As many creators use the official content layout/font/etc. I don't see this as a bad thing.
I am for royalties to be paid just like in almost every other aspect of business/creation. If you make tech, you get a patent and people pay you royalties. WotC hasn't for over 20 years and people just assume that's what it should be. Even Unreal and Unity do this. So does Steam, Epic, Apple, and any other online entity including Amazon. DnD was the last bastion but if I created something even small royalty on people making millions of dollars of it would be appreciated. MonkeyDM seems to be making his Steinhardt guide by himself and got over a million dollars his take away will be high.
Those are the only two things I kinda agree with. Everything else that was changed was very very bad. 30 days, Infinite license to take your stuff and stop you from selling it, that's ridiculous.
Edit:
My thought too is that 1.0a should stay in perpetuity and that 1.1 needs to be reworked and then have incentives for people to release under (such as working in Forgotten Realms/Dragonlance, having a different SRD then 1.0a with more in it, etc). This would make it so so the great stuff that released under 1.0a would not be threatened and they could get some people under 1.x.
my problem is even if I must pull the plug on my legendary bundle, and drop all D^D B subscriptions and the use of Avrae as they are apparently covered in the leaked OGL and use is acceptance. I will be Blaming Hasbro not WOTC.. as the have been trashed time and time again by Those Bosses.
If I must pull out I am Blackballing Hasbro in Total

We are sure that everyone will find that the TSL (Turd Sandwich Loophole) will provide creators with amazing new options to either pay us ALL their money, or jump of a cliff. Our lawyers assure us both that we can sue creators as they fall from the cliff, and that our dedicated D&D fans will continue to love us for it, and reward us with hugs, kisses, and money.

My only regret would be that I could only cancel once. Way to declare war on your customer base, WotC. This is what happens when Microsoft execs are allowed to run a tabletop game company.

Might I suggest picket lines outside the premiere of their upcoming movie I’m positive hasdro wood hate to see anything happen to that.
My guess is that it will be a huge mess and will only be adding gasoline to the fire.
