Why leave now? Why cancel your sub now? The new Open Game License 1.2 isn't bad.
It's almost not bad! There is still point OGL1.2 6(f), which is sheer, blatant censorship. This is evil, evil stuff. We need to fight for our freedom!
There are many things wrong with OGL 1.2.
1. Notice of De-authorization - OGL 1.0a cannot be revoked or de-authorized - if they want to continue down that trail enjoy the lawsuits you will lose coming your way WotC
2. Section 6
(f) No Hateful Content or Conduct - allows WotC to decide what is hateful with no oversight or ability to contest. They can use this to suppress and censor those they wish out of their way. For the ones who say "They would never do that! That would destroy them!" you might want to look at whats currently going on. They would. This also allows them to strip you of the license if you do anything outside of DnD they find undesirable. If you partake is certain substances that is legal in certain states but not others for example, they could rescind your license because of this clause.
3. Section 7 in its entirety.
(a) Modification - they can change section 5: You control your content whenever they wish. So they can decide at a later date to do the same thing they wanted in OGL 1.1
(b) Termination - they can terminate your license if you bring up one of their patents is illegal and bring action against them they can retaliate, even if said patent was illegal. Among other things.
4. Section 9:
(d) Severability - If any part of the license is considered unenforceable WotC can scrap it in it's entirety.
(e) Governing Law/Jurisdiction/Class Action Waver - Lets them keep legal action within their backyard of Washington where they drop gobs of money to the various political figures and know the temperaments of the various judges. It keeps you from organizing against them with a class action suit that would be VERY public.
(g) Waiver of Jury Trial - Lets them keep their illegal BS out of the public eye.
There is nothing about this new OGL we should be happy with. OGL 1.0a can't be revoked, it cannot be de-authorized.
Sorry dude but you're wrong, the OGL 1.2 IS objectively bad - if you need to see someone's disection of why it's bad, go watch the Dungeon Craft's video on it. He's a debate teacher and he goes through a quick step-by-step of the statement released with it and why it's all a net negative, and also why he'd never sign anything like that purely due to the one stipulation that requires you to give up your rights to a jury trial and play in WotC's legal backyard if there ever are any cases brought against them. There's a lot of issues with it.
Why are you so invested in people capitulating to WotC? If you don't like reading threads about the OGL... don't click them?
I did watch Dungeon Craft. He's making a fool of himself and talking about how terrible Wizards of the Coast is for apologizing. Dungeon Crawl isn't actually making any cohesive points or introducing anything new to the situation, he just spends most of his videos mocking the corporation and making a funny voice.
I'm fine with reading threads about the Open Game License, though the title didn't actually make clear what this thread was about at all. What I'm not fine with is when people say something that's incorrect or complain without any logical point.

BoringBard's long and tedious posts somehow manage to enrapture audiences. How? Because he used Charm Person, the #1 bard spell!

The age of OGL is over. The Time of the ORC has come!
The moment that WotC declares OGL 1.0a "de-authorized", "revoked" or any such nonsense is the moment I release as much content as possible under OGL 1.0a and say, "Sue me WotC". OGL1.0a cannot be revoked. If thousands of us do it, the countersuit will be a class action suit.
It's not crazy if they want to turn DnD into a VTT only experience and thus kill any competition. They are late to the game and rather then fairly compete they want to limit any D&D virtual play to their platform and then charge for everything they can. Look at other VTT, their are plenty of user created content you can buy or install for free. I guarantee you WotC will not allow user generated content on their VTT.

Censorship, posing as a self-righteous morality compass and finding people guilty at whim without trial at court aren't logical points?
Not to mention how morality compasses change over time. Thirty-three years ago, Demons and Devils violated perceived morality norms, and thus TSR gave us Tanar'ri and Baatezu. We have no clue what perceived morality norms will be in 25 years. Norms today that seem completely diverse and inclusive could go back to the norms of fifty years ago and Hasbro can be sold along the way to a corporation pushing those perceived morality norms.

If that were only what they were trying that would at least make sense. They're trying to make things VTT developers have already created, things they've created for other game platforms, a violation of their IP. "Magic Missile" animation, even for Pathfinder, Rolemaster, or OSR - on platforms these people invented, developed and turned into businesses that have been running for YEARS - is a violation of WotC's IP according to what they've written.
Frankly, I'd LOVE to seem them try to get this enforced in a court of law... It's like copyrighting the word, "Fireball"... HOW can you do that? It's not yours to copyright. Now, copyrighting their specific flavor of animation ... sure. THAT makes sense... but that's NOT what they're trying to pull off here.
They're either delusional, or they're incredibly poor at writing their intentions.
