I’m happy the book is finally available for preorder, but… it’s disappointing. Mostly, why is there no Primeval Druid and Runecrafter Wizard (I also made a homebrew version of the runecrafter—check the link in my sig)? I was very excited for those subclasses, why only a Barbarian Primal Path? Is this going to be like how Fizban’s missed an opportunity for a dragon warlock?
Considering that the Barbarian already follows the UA Subclass feature progression that all classes are moving to, it makes sense. It will work with the new PHB where as the Druid and Wizard don't fit that model. I would guess Feats will have level prerequisites as well.

It is funny cuz character subcalss options are the one thing that would make me buy a book, i really dont need more monsters or items, usually they are nice to have but wont make me buy a book. Would have bought the book if at least 2 subclasses would have been in it, but now it's a pass for me. If i want ressources fifth edition already did too good of a job cutting lore from all of their recent setting books.
What is the point of purchasing this item? Almost everything in it wont be useful for pretty much any campaign except if you make an effort to specifically put it in. The magic items sound interesting, funny enough since that hasnt been in unearthed arcana, that is something im not looking forward to and wasn't expecting at all.

I'm also disappointed at the lack of subclasses. I can only guess they must not have polled well when the UA released. If it's under 70 percent approval, it doesn't get published.
Either that or they're taking a step back on adding subclasses until they've firmed up what the base classes will look like in 1D&D.
Or them loosing the whole licensing debate made them put less resources into 5th edition. Waiting for the next iteration of dnd under a new license and not the ogl until they release new sets of subclasses people want to semi force them into paying for books.
That's what I would do if I was a company looking to monetize my fan base with content I was originally looking to post for a soon to be out of date product. Then u have more pull for the new version of dnd and draw more people into accepting the new license. They said they are looking for more ways to make money off of the dnd franchise, they alrwady lost with 5th edition, I bet their next offense is at the start of 1 dnd.
I am going to spend my money fleshing out my physical source book collection for the OG 5e collection. New edition does nothing for me but confuse people.

This has bummed me out. I was really excited for this book after Fizban's. But one subclass for a class I don't even really play? I knew one would almost certainly be for the Barbarian, but the only one? The magic items and feats may or may not be nice, but I generally like subclasses and races.
I was asking for it for my birthday, but might tell my wife to get me something else instead.

Do you have compendium of forgotten secrets: awakening? It’s a very good 3rd party book.
You could literally just move the 2nd level features to 3rd level. And this is not one D&D or 5.5e or whatever, this is 5e!
I have absolutely zero doubt that everything being released between now and the 2024 will be designed with Onednd in mind and be as compatible as it can possibly be.
This is also super disappointing as a druid player as druids have so few subclasses by comparison, with this and how one DND has presented the awful new druid they're really showing wizards hate this class

Just wait for the video game (VVT) and everything you could possibly want will be a $1.99 "micro transaction" and you will be happy! Whether you like it or not. It is like they don't see social media without rose colored glasses, companies will wake up one day.
I am a bit disappointed at the dearth of subclass options, especially since both the Wizard and Druid UAs looked rather fun and I could see a couple of my players really liking them.
That said, thirty new items, some new feats that likely will provide non-casters some fun abilities, and seventy monsters is nothing to scoff at. Plus, there’s going to be a lore dump, which should be helpful to a fair number of folks (not to mention provide yet another piece of data showing the “OMG Wizards is removing the lore from the game!” crowd don’t know what they’re talking about).
Overall, even if this did not live up to what the UA indicated, I think it still looks like a fun book. If I hadn’t read the UA, I would be pretty excited. My knowledge of the UA tempered that excitement some, but there’s still some excitement there, especially if looked at with fresh eyes, ignoring the existence of the UA.

You do realize subclasses are microtransactions right now 😛 and "video game VTTs" for that matter. Hello from the future!

Yeah the UA format is a double-edged sword. I think we'll get those subclasses back eventually though!
Good point on the feats, I'm looking forward to those. It'll be our first setting-agnostic feats since... I think Fizbans? ...and those were species-locked.
Frustrating to see the druid subclass not make it.
I suspect that the runecrafter didn't make it as a lot of people said it should be an artificer subclass. And WotC would rather scrap the concept entirely than give the artificer support.

Yes I do, but current VVTs are not video games, hello from the present.
I just don't understand how this is really relevant when the book is coming out in August and you're hammering away at a VTT that's at least two years out from official release. I'm pretty sure people will engage Bigby's and maybe see the content they want in other forms before whatever VTT apocalypse you're forecasting. This book doesn't seem all that different from prior books, aside from the subclasses being less in number than what we've come to expect from D&D books, Fizban's being the obvious template for Bigby's. Using the discussion to harp on the VTT in development just seems way off the mark, or out of sync to go back to the Somewhere in Time debate.
