Hello, was curious if anyone knows if the new DMG and MM will be available in a physical pre-release via a Con, the way the PHB was available in limited quantities at GenCon back in August? If so, do you know which Con will be hosting the physical pre-release? Digital release looks to be Nov. 12th, so I would think the physical pre-release would be mid-October?
There is no public information on this front. To my knowledge, they have not announced any major convention appearances for the rest of the year (admittedly, I could have missed such an announcement, but I did a quick Google search and did not see anything), which makes it unlikely - especially given how relatively close we are to the next book, that is not really time to build up hype for a convention appearance. Considering the PHB is always the best selling of the three core books and the most generally applicable, it would not surprise me if the PHB got special treatment the others did not.
I would agree. The PHB is really the big one. They need to promote it heavily. DMs who run 2024 are likely going to buy the DMG and Monster Manual. The trick is to get the PHB Into players hands and get them excited for games.
Considering how poorly the PHB release has gone to date, I doubt they want anymore woes to add to this debacle, hopefully for everyone that bought in early, it gets better soon.
Thanks! I've been scouring the web and upcoming Con sites that DnD Beyond is scheduled to attend, and no joy. Oddly, I only heard about the PHB physical pre-release at GenCon on Wednesday night at GenCon! Made for a very early next morning and was the last person to receive a day-one copy at 6pm when they closed on Thursday! After failing to secure a 'ticket' at 7:00:02am... we bumped into a Staff person getting coffee at Starbucks who gave us the days rundown... so then I made it my day's goal to get over there before the closed. Figured there would be a handful of un-redeemed tickets, and there were. Hit the Post Office booth also, so scored some great 50th Anniv. swag. It was oddly exciting - I started playing in '79 - to be at the other end of this history felt really nice. Now, would like to find out if the DMG is also going to have a limited physical release, and so far, no joy. Cheers!
