Hey everyone! I'm having a weird issue with my 2024 build. I created a dex based paladin, duel wielding (shortsword & scimitar). At level 1, it already wrote i have proficiancy with both weapons (i assumed it was because of the weapon mastery chosen on build). Looking at the stats, it says both have 1d6+4 (my modifier) on damage. When i watched Kolby & others that spoke of the build, they said to choose two weapon fighting at 2nd level, but if it already says i have the ability modifier than why take two weapon fighting as the feat? Am i misunderstanding something/ could there be a bug on the site/ or is it not neccesary to take two handed anymore for the ability modifier on both weapons ( shortsword-vex, scimitar-nick which gives the extra attack on the attack action)? All help appreciated!! Thanks :)
You might be misinterpreting the bonus. That would be applied only to the first attack, regardless of which hand (read: weapon) you choose to use. If you then use the light property to make your second attack with another light weapon you would not then add the modifier, even though it is on your character sheet.
The character sheet doesn't know which weapon is your "main" weapon. Just that you have both equipped.

You have to actually click dual wielding in D&D Beyond otherwise it assumes you are just holding one weapon .i.e. D&D Beyond isn't smart enough to know that if you equip two weapons you are holding them at the same time.
Also in 2024 the weapon may or may not gain the ability score damage. And for that there is no way for D&D Beyond to know that. Basically if you use it as a regular attack it would. If you use it as part of the light weapon it doesn't. But the program doesn't know this.
Thanks for replying! I could have sworn it used to be different when you had two weapons on the sheet, that it recognized only one as main hand till i added two handed fighting.
Thanks for the help! I had a ranger a few years ago, also dex build two handed. She had 2 scimitars and i remember the modifier didn't appear on the second till i chose two handed weapon as a feat... maybe because it was the same kind of weapon? I have no idea, but thanks for clearing that up for me!
If you go into the customise weapon there’s a tick box for dual wield that moves the weapon from your actions to your bonus actions and removes the stat increase but it does mean you always have that weapon in your off hand rather than being able to juggle them

Let me know if I misinterpreted your question.
