So I noticed this (or at least half of it, the full thing is apparently 600 pages) has been added. Anyone got any experience with it? I like the idea of a monster hunt book but not sure how well it’s executed. Also I noticed the Monster Tamer class from the book wasn’t included which is a disappointment
As a backer of the original Heliana kickstarter, as well as several of the other books that are compatible with its crafting system, I have a good amount of experience with it. I’ve run a few of the adventures, as well as had players using the player facing content. I also use the harvesting and crafting rules in my ongoing campaign.
It’s really just a great system. Each of the Monster Hunts is broken down into a Hunt and a Fight, and they all scale to a few different levels easily - just adjusting some damage and DCs and using the correct statblocks as indicated in the text of the module.
The crafting takes a little bit of getting used to, but my players have loved being able to get something from any monster they defeat.
Part 1 is missing the Tamer class, but what it does have is (this is direct from Loot Tavern):
- **Tracking**, **Harvesting**, **Crafting**, and **Cooking** - ALL 165 **random encounters** - ALL the new **equipment**, **weapons**, and **feats** - Four subclasses (Fleshweaver Bard, Hive Druid, Harvest Paladin, and Biomancy Wizard) - Five races (8 with subraces: Cnidaran, Cyclopian, Gobboc, Golynn, and Rakin) - Five **Monster Hunts** (Polyhedrooze, Dread and Breakfast, Reign of Iron, Shadow of the Broodmother, and Dream Weaver) - All the **magic items**, **familiars**, **monsters**, and **spells **that accompany those hunts and player options
So, if you are interested in running the monster hunts or incorporating this system into your own home games, it’s really everything you need.
Thanks that all sounds really interesting. I already use a monster harvesting and crafting system in my games (the one from the Drakkenheim setting) that I’m happy with so that’s less useful but a couple of my players are playing a monster hunters so that side of it could be really useful
This seems like a really cool release. I've been using the Monster Loot series from GMsGuild for monster harvesting and this seems like a really cool replacement/addition to those materials!
I freaking called it! I knew Heliana’s would be coming after seeing Loot Tavern as one of the Third Party Vendors!!
For those interested, Heliana’s is a FANTASTIC book to grab. Great tools with their crafting and harvesting mechanics. Really unfortunate, though, to see WotC cutting the content in half (species, subclasses, adventures). Also, I’m not seeing the inclusion of the Tamer Class.
I'm hoping Part 2 is not far behind! I've been lurking in Loot Tavern's Discord for a while and have seen them discuss what they could about how difficult it has been to get even this part on DnDBeyond.
From what I understand, what was left out was due to DnDBeyond infrastructure not able to work with the rest of the content. So, hopefully they can get infrastructure stuff upgraded to incorporate the rest of Heliana's, including the Tamer class and other Species.
I think the fact the book is 600 pages might also have played a part in splitting it. That’s twice the size of most other D&D books so do they charge $30 for all that extra, charge $60 and put people off, or sell it in two halves so it feels more manageable. I hope the second half isn’t too far behind even if I’m still making my mind up

Can you share some of you thoughts on the Harvesting and Crafting system from Drakkenheim?
Been playing it since release with my Players. This and L'arsenes Ledger (Also Loot Tavern) are my favorite pieces of DND stuff. All around Amazing Item variety that genuinely excites you for Battles outside of XP.

It’s not fully released yet so what I’m using is based on broad outlines and teasers they’ve given but basically once a combat finishes every player gets a chance to harvest one thing from the defeated monsters choosing from categories like organs, natural weapons, hide, or fluids. There’s no skill check by default but you can easily add one if you want to. The recipes are straight forward, four or five ingredients that are very general for uncommon items (any natural weapons from a CR3 monster for instance) and get more specific and more complicated the higher you go. Once you get everything you need to go to a workshop of a matching rarity and it just takes a couple of in game days to craft. Again there’s no skill checks or failures but you can add them if you like
Its a very simple system compared to what I know of Heliana’s but that’s one reason I like it, I run kids games a lot and I can give them a recipe without them starting to look like a deer in headlights and there’s no frustration from having collected loads of ingredients and then it failing because of a bad roll.
I think both systems have their uses. The Drakkenheim one is to encourage people to explore the city and is just icing on a cake, a fun side diversion, whilst Heliana’s is obviously designed to give that Monster Hunter game play loop where the whole campaign is built around the thrill of the hunt
That sounds like something that I would be interested in. I don't want a whole game centered on it, but having it as a side hustle for my more invested players would be cool.

I watched the Dungeon Dudes video where they discussed their high level thoughts on this system. Are they publishing a working-ish system on their Discord or something now?
I'd really like to add something like this to my game but don't want it to be overly complex since it won't be the focus of a campaign. It sounds like the Loot Tavern system in Heliana's may be too detailed for my purposes, but I am waffling.
For some reason the kids I run games for really love collecting monster body parts so I figured I needed to give them something to do or they’d all end up wearing necklaces of ears like the bad guy in a Vietnam war film 😂
The full Drakkenheim system is going to be in the Dungeon Dudes monster manual which will hopefully be releasing in the summer and be on here at some point but they’ve released a couple of preview recipes on discord which was enough for the community to get an idea of how it works and home brew a lot of recipes
If you like the concept of monster hunt books, then it might be worth checking out. But if the absence of the Monster Tamer class is a big disappointment for you, then it might not meet your expectations. Maybe someone else has read the full version and can provide better feedback. What do you think—could it still be enjoyable without that class?
Hi everyone I have a question, I am a fully new player so would really appreciate help getting oriented. I saw a pop-up up the top of this website advertising this book (file?), which sounds super cool, but I'm not sure I fully understand what it is and isn't. Is this official D&D material like the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manual I bought? Is it designed with the 2024/2025 version of 5e in mind? Also what do I call that new version? I know it's not the same as the 2014 stuff which I nearly accidentally got.
The description of this book sounds extremely cool (I love the idea of being able to craft magic items through specific quests to defeat specific enemies etc, & the new subclasses & species seem awesome), but I want to make sure I know what I'm getting before I buy it.
Heya! Its not Official Hasbro/WotC Material, its from Loottavern which is a 3rd Party Publihser - it is fully compatible with DND One (the 2024 Version) though! :) Its also kind of Setting Agnostic, so as long as you run the DnD System it will work flawlessly for you!

Thank you! This sounds like it could be a really cool thing to try out, hopefully there'll be some reviews out soon
A lot of the stuff that would be in part 2 is HEAVILY customizable & requires a LOT of special inputs so I'm not surprised there are compatibility issues with Beyond from a formatting side.
It's not impossible tho...but I'd expect a lot of "This aspect of this [thing] is not currently supported at this time"...
I do wonder why Runesmith's Stibbles' Codex of Companions didn't make the cut, but this did...
I know BrettUltimus said it ain't happening, but I'd LOVE for Why Slay Dragons When You Could Go Fishing? by IO Publishing to make it on here. It scratches SO many of my water-themed subclass wishes...also, a THIRD Raccoon species in the character creator would make for some fun parties.
Similar de-conformation on The Crooked Moon by the Legends of Avantris crew.
Still... BEYOND NOW HAS JELLYFISH/MAN-O-WAR AND PANGOLIN/ARMADILLO PEOPLE! And JessJackdaw joins JoCat & The Dungeon Dudes as YouTubers referenced by 3rd-party Beyond material! Here's hoping some more get snuck in(I want Abserd from Puffin Forest to somehow make it into one of these books as an NPC...)

The Monster Tamer not being there is definitely not a deal breaker, I just like to see third party classes and figure out which niche they think they've found. I'm definitely considering it just for the monster hunts, it would suit one of my players perfectly as a side quest or two
