Who here created a character so that they could play as a character from popular media? (for example, I am making an echo fighter so I could play as Es from BlazBlue)
Years ago I was about to start playing in a new campaign, and I was watching Disney's Aladdin while trying to come up with a character concept. (The good Aladdin! The animated one with Robin Williams, btw). So I decided I wanted to play as my favorite Disney villain - Jafar. So I built a sorcerer equipped with only fire spells and charm spells. He had the same basic personality as Jafar - charming etiquette and a friendly smile that barely hid his disdain for everyone and his desire to conquer the world. Except instead of making him a human I made him a brass dragonborn.
I don't generally make character sheets/PCs to emulate pop fiction characters; I do, however, make a bunch of classes/subclasses inspired by different media figures.
I've made a warlock subclass to emulate Cyborg from Teen Titans/DC; I've made an artificer subclass to emulate Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire; I've made fighter subclasses for both the Dark Souls series and the RuneScape MMO; I've made a monk subclass inspired by Hunter x Hunter, etc. They're all fun and flavorful (in my opinion, since I wrote 'em).
I'm currently collating them into a collection to release on DMsGuild, so I don't have them uploaded here.
To stick with Dungeons and Dragons, back in 3E, I made a Shadow Weave Sorcerer and devotee of Shar for an evil campaign. And what better name could I pick for a servant of shadow than Mr. Morden? I even referred to the rest of the party as "My associates".
Had a one shot and played a Br'er Rabbit inspired character, had such a good time. He was a kobold that excelled at deception and trickery. In hindsight a Halfling would probably be a better choice, but I like playing kobolds.
I'm still trying to figure out a good version of Raziel form the Legacy of Kain series but hope springs eternal that I will someday find a version of him I am happy with.

Hm.. You know I had never considered it. But I think Thor would be good, since D&D no longer publishes stats for Gods, except the Fiend type. And that was only in 2014.
I tend not to make popular characters in D&D, because i am so full of character ideas as it is, that i just make original characters all the time.
That being said, i think i might start doing it as an excercise, seeing how close i can get to a non D&D character with the D&D system. There is the aspect that i am often a little out of touch or skewed on what popular media is at the moment. Back in 4E i made a character sheet for Moiraine Damodred from the wheel of time Novels, and none of the other players had any ideas who i was talking about. Now that there is a Wheel of Time show, i might try again.

He was a lot of fun to play.

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
A few.

It's not something I'd ever play in an actual game, but just for fun, I once made a goblin psi warrior with a sun blade (i.e., Yoda).
I unironically made Marshal Moo Montana via the CritRole Gunslinger FIghter & Minotaur.
C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa references FTW.
None in many years, but i tend to get my ideas for characters from thing i read as opposed to what i watch

Well, I have made a ton in my 40 years of playing D&D. However sometimes I make silly characters based on memes or comments I hear at a table:
Nadda el Rick. Not of Melbourne https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/134546085 (yeah I know)
Nickel Killman https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/112915690 (She's a Necromancer as played by a famous actress)
Sanchiá Maria Teresa García Ramírez de Arroyo https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/87898540 (No one expects the Gnomish Inquisition)
