Another issue it had that I didn’t see anyone bring up was the fact that it only ran on Windows so if somebody in your group had a Mac they were S.O.L.

I beleive they are still working on that.
They're not, though. They've publicly announced that development on it has been discontinued.

Again, can you tell me when and where they publicly announced that? Because I didnt see anything here or on the official Sigil discord.
While there hasn’t been an official statement from Hasbro/WotC it has been reported by a few outlets, including this one that references an internal memo that explains that they’ll let go of most of the development team and release some finished content free of charge which has since happened

Yes, but also they do still have a limited number of people still working on it and have released several updates to the programm since then. Those people are active on the official discord for Sigil. Its easy to check that. There is still bug reporting and bug repairing going on. In July they talked about Mac access being not far off. This is not what I would call cancelled.
Yes, I beleive maps has priority at the moment. I guess that might change when maps is out o beta. And maps is a good example of a tool that was developed mostly backstage forever, till noone beleived it was coming anymore. Yet here we are. So I said above that it is being worked on slowly, but it is obviously still there and being developed. The discord was the place where they connected with people during the first playtest period and I guess they think that most people using it are still there, so a good place to collect feedback and make announcements. But I dont know their reasons for sure of course.

I think it is safe to say that meaningful development on Sigil is done, and the project is effectively on life support. It is pretty hard to reach any other conclusion, based on the facts of the situation.
First, Sigil is nowhere close to being in a real release state - far too few assets for anything meaningful, poor optimization, and performance issues on anything other than advanced hardware are all fairly significant problems one expects to see fixed before an official release. From figures Wizards has given, and the 96% of people revealed to have been laid off, there are likely only 4-6 developers left on the entire project. That is a maintenance-sized staff, not a development-sized one.
Second, the rate of new releases are slowing down - with no new substantive content released since August, when previously new items were being released every two weeks or so. That looks a lot like Wizards is finishing up work on items already in development, but is not really working on anything new. It is also telling that these products are being released for free - that could be just to entice new users for a limited time, until there are more assets, but between the layoffs and the slowing pace, it feels a bit like Wizards is not trying to monetize something they know will not be getting major development.
Finally, this is how Wizards deals with closing products. Wizards kept the 4e digital tools running with a skeleton staff (who also worked on other projects) as long as they could, until external factors forced the tools to close.
All told, I think the most likely situation is that Sigil is in a coma and unlikely to wake up. It has staff who are trying to stabilize it, but I doubt any real work is being done to resuscitate it.

Ok, then why would they limit news about it to Discord and not here? Even if it’s still running it’s clearly not a priority.
