Hey guys in my campaign I'm playing a human bard who is seriously averted to killing. In our first encounter we almost died BC I didn't fight. However, I'm looking for a punishment for my character if he were to start fighting. I'm not sure what. (A friend suggested a blood rage but I don't think that's a punishment) any ideas?
Idea one from me is to make sure that this trait of your character isn't irritating the people you are playing with, and being open to changing it if it does.
Idea two is to utilize the games rules for fighting without killing because it has them (basically just only ever make melee attacks, because you can choose to have those knock a creature out rather than kill), since you say the character is averse to killing, rather than averse to all violence.
Idea three... borrow all-consuming grief from Exalted. If you fight too much, you just can't take the weight of your regret and sorrow anymore and break down weeping/brooding to the exclusion of all other activities for some amount of time, even if your friends need your help right then and there (and again, talk that over with the group, since your character being a non-participant at certain times doesn't just affect your game-play experience).

this seems like a good balance

I'm liking idea 2 of non lethal. We started last night and I convinced a goblin to follw me. Then I sold him to the innkeeper for 2 gold
Self flagellation
A dwarf with a canoe on his back? What could go wrong?
