I know they are putting an enormous amount of effort on Twitch integration so someone can show their character sheet on Twitch while doing the channel in a convenient way.
To me this feels like a real niche use that very few would want and its paused and taken resources away from other resources (they specifically said the team working on twitch support are the same one trying to work on DM tools)
Am I just old and don't see the real use of it. What are some uses for this? How many of you stream your games on Twitch. I've been struggling with whether I would ask this but my curiosity finally won out. Is this just an advertising thing to get streamers on board for the tool? Does the integration somehow help a normal player who isn't a streamer?
It's a marketing thing I assume. I might be simplifying the actual relationship, but DDB is ran by Curse, which is owned by Twitch, which is owned by Amazon. So I just assumed that this integration is because the parent company wants it.
I wont use it, no. I'll experience it, probably, when I watch Critical Role. But I usually watch it on Alpha for that extra little bit of flavor they give. If the DDB integration is better, I may switch over.
The twitch integration uses live character data, which isn't recorded alongside the VoD, so currently it isn't possible to watch the VoD with the D&D Beyond overlay.
However, it's entirely possible that it may be possible in the future!

Will you use it?
Hey Mehrkat!
So my team is the one handling the Twitch Extension. We are coming over from other projects unrelated to DDB so absolutely nothing on the DDB side has been paused or had resources taken away :) Once we finish up the Twitch Extension, my team will be leading up the Encounter Builder, which at that point will actually be speeding up the DDB roadmap - super hyped!
D&D as a whole is starting to grow more and more on Twitch, and we are seeing more and more new people get introduce to D&D for the first time on Twitch in the last few years. We want to make it as an awesome experience as possible for those new people! This also helps out streamers, who currently if they want to show off stats, need to handle making scenes with pictures and updating them all the time..ect. This will make the life of streamers much easier.
I'm liking the integration for the C Team twitch stream that's airing right now. I wonder if it'll be visible during the VOD.
Storm is correct in that it wont show in vods. While there are some blockers on the tech side on our end, the true blocker is that Twitch currently does not support extensions loading during a VOD at this time.
When doing your own twitch video, how do you turn it on? Is such an option readily available or would there be extra steps to activate such a feature?
We will have some more information on how everyone can use and set this up very soon!

Also, if anyone was not able to check it out live last night, https://twitch.tv/webdm will be helping us test it out today on stream! Should check it out and let us now what you think!
Thank you for your thoughts. I have to admit I'm hyped about the Encounter Tools and any future DM tools that follow. I think I might understand it better once it goes up.
My apologies if my post came off as complaining. Legitimately I was a little confused. I'm glad a new team came in for twitch and will be pushing some other functions that I'm excited about.

Not at all :) We all have different things we are excited about using D&D Beyond for, so I totally understand! Just wanted to let you know not to worry. Super cool things on the way!
Is it going to be used on tonight’s Critical Role as well?
It will not. We are still in closed beta currently.

I’m sure that it’s an extension that you enable in the twitch account menus and the DM is able to link their account to the extension.

Hi, Is this tool still working?
I installed the overlay but it isn't picking up my campaign in DnD Beyond
