While roll20 has some of those features, it is not designed to be an offline game supplement, but is a VTT application made to be played on over the internet. Not at all similar, and works horribly for what beyond is able to bring to the physical table.
Source: almost 6000 hours on roll20, pro sub for over 2 years.
*golf clap* Still missing the point entirely.
Paying for a physical book does not entitle you to access to a online supplement made by an entirely different company. If your point is "bu-but I bought the PHB!" then you need to re-evaluate your life decisions. Thats like saying "I bought skyrim on the xbox 2 years ago so I should get it for free on the nintendo switch!".
*golfclap* Still *golfclap* not *golfclap* the *golfclap* point *goldclap*
Regardless of where we bought it from, people are not likely to pay for the same thing twice. Stop trying to say we're saying something we're not. You've also missed the part where the things you claim this website does, it doesn't do.

You're still missing the point. This product falls in the category of "nice to have but not necessary." I'm still waiting to be convinced that it is necessary by the designers.
The other point you seem to be missing is that your opinion is just that - an opinion. You are the one that needs to re-evaluate your life decisions and decide not to be an ignorant know it all on an online beta forum. Your feedback has been harsh and derogatory and completely without substance. You are doing more to make me not want to be a part of this community than anything I've seen here.
I obviously like the proposal of what's coming or I wouldn't be here. I'm just not impressed enough with what I've seen so far to pay for it. This sort of feedback is something the developers do need. Positive feedback only will not help them to design a product that will appeal to everyone.
TLDR - Stop being a forum troll and start behaving like a decent human being.

Especially if you had to pay import prices. Since I'm in Germany right now, I had to pay 50 Euros for each book. I'm already 150 Euros in for the PBH, DMG, and MM. Seems a bit much to pay even more just to have access to a digital version. A search and filter feature would be nice, but... yeah.
Love the site so far. Will definitely be using while running my games this week. However, I agree with many of the sentiments stated above...the real innovation would be for Wizards to come up with a one licence / many platform approach. I play on Roll20...and I have the same issue there...I hesitate to buy the book (I get that maybe thats the antiquated one, I'm old school :), then buy it again licensed through Roll20...and now a 3rd time here?
I will say graphically, and UI - wise, this site looks amazing and easy to use so far!

"online supplement made by an entirely different company."
"entirely different company."
What in the seven hells are you on about? Wizards made the books, Wizards made Beyond, Wizards is partnered with Roll20. Roll20 wouldn't be allowed to distribute anything except what is in the OGL SRD5 if they didn't have a deal with Wizards of the Coast.
If you buy the books on Roll20 you are giving a small amount to them, and then the rest goes to Wizards of the Coast, which is fine. What isn't fine, is having to buy the Physical copy of the books, buy the version for Beyond for ease of access, and buy the Roll20 Monster Manual so that you can play it online.
Edit: Oh and do that for Volo's as well, and every other expansion that comes out. Spend 3x the money for the same content on different programs/mediums. I honestly would be fine with buying a physical book that costs a bit more, but includes a code for Beyond and Roll20 books, but not $150.

The books are made by Wizards of the Coast.
D&D Beyond is made by Curse, who are part of the Twitch group (and ultimately Amazon).
Wizards of the Coast have a partnership agreement with a number of 3rd parties, including Roll20 and Curse among others. The degree of this partnership and the details involved varies from one agreement to the next.
I don't have visibility of the details of these partnering agreements, but I can guess that Wizards won't allow any 3rd party to give away their paid content for free.
I can also guess that any 3rd party needs a revenue source to be able to succeed.
Take that as you will - I understand the desire to not spend more money, but any discussion should be founded on facts rather than inaccuracy.
