It looks like I did have CC3, not CC3+! The interface looks (horrifyingly) similar though, so thank you! Maybe this will finally help me understand it better!
ETA: Apparently I can upgrade to CC3+ for $20. Do you think its different enough to be worth it?
All of the CC stuff looks pretty good but I'm running Mac so no go there.
Also, the character creator stuff is drawn directly out of Hero Machine which I've used to make some pretty believable characters.

The + made the software usable for me. If you are going to do it though just watch some YouTube videos. Once you understand the basics it's really not that difficult IMO.
I use DM Minion, by Goathead Software. It's free for Windows (I use a Surface at the table) and lets me track combat super easy. For 5E, I've been using published adventures, which is new for me. I just go through the book, when I have time, and start plugging in the encounters, so they're ready when I need them. It's pretty easy to use and about the only feature I really want is to be able to sort various lists, but the data files are in XML, so I just wrote a little app to spin through the top-level nodes, but it's still something that I'd rather not have to do myself.
Note that this is one of the two tools that I'm interested in having on DnD Beyond. The other would be a campaign wiki, like Obsidian Portal. A compendium is a nifty toy and a character sheet/creator/manager is pretty much the price of entry. If that's all I get, though, DnD Beyond won't actually fill a niche I need filled. And, yes, I have existing solutions for those, so it's more a matter of being psyched for the potential of a higher-budget, integrated, and officially licensed solution.
If decent mapmaking software was linked in to the subscription it would definitely increase the amount I would be willing to spend :D
I really hope that this is affordable for me when all is said and done, but, I'm not sure...
That would be fantastic, hopefully we will see something like this in the future.
In the meantime, Inkarnate is a handy little tool. It's still in Beta atm but quite functional. More for your world maps, but you could probably get quite a bit out of it in terms of battlemaps etc.
MY dream would be to have tabs and sections like in MS One Note, with full integration with all of the WOTC handbook material.
I would also like a Dungeon, City, and overland map. The two most important features to me for map making are quality and an easy learning curve. I'm old school and still have my Core Rules Expansion on my hard drive. The Campaign Cartographer mapper never got any use mostly cause I never and still don't have time to learn it.
And it all has to be able to be integrated with Roll20
I do hope the Campaign Manager will be able to hold encounters, items, and other treasure someday. But for now, it does work pretty well to just continue to use OneNote and create the links to dndbeyond content as needed. They work okay together as is. The potential for dndbeyond is great and I'm looking forward to the future improvements in this area, especially.

So you use them together? Could you expand on how you can use OneNote in conjunction with DDB? Thanks

Sure. I use them together like any web content that I have in OneNote. Currently, I create links in random encounter tables, or item tables that go directly to their pages. When I create an encounter, I can create a simple list of monsters or NPCs and then embed the link for each so that on a click it just opens them in a new window. I currently paste rules text from DnDBeyond into the OneNote Encounter tab I have created at the point in the text for the encounter if it is likely to utilize a certain rule, spell, or item. This auto pastes the link to the page and during play I can open up the full text if necessary in DnDBeyond. I could type in there and link to the page manually but auto-link makes building encounters a little easier.
Watch some of these. My videos, but I covered the major questions and learning curve I had when I started to use the software.

Scrivener and Lions Den Apps have been my go-to ... the encounter management is perfect ... it just doesn't have the official content

I gotta rep Inkarnate too, I have made a couple of really cool maps on there. Here's one I am working on now:
Edit: Uploaded the wrong image, this is current after some GIMP magic
Edit 2: Also I am in the process of adding the border around it, that's why that looks...weird...unplanned this was.
For dungeons and encounters I personally recommend Dungeon Designer 3. This took me about 20-30 minutes.
