No one is arguing against that. What they're saying is that there is no need to toggle a Mounted condition becuase nothing really changes in how you use the lance itself. It may free up your other hand to do something else, like control the mount or hold a shield, but there are no changes to the lance. Simply let it be known that you are mounted and the lance's Special property rules apply. Assuming you are a Small race (to be able to mount the SD) wielding a lance is silly, anyway, but nout outside RAW.
Yes A gnome. How is lance silly? I am new to dnd 5e. So I am not sure why. I used to play a different RPG years ago. In that game players were encouraged to play the character they wanted. Is 5e more strict?
By "silly" I mean that you have a 3 foot tall Gnome weilding a 10 foot long lance. Most of the advantages of being small are negated by such a large weapon. You can't hide as easily with a 10' pole sticking out. You can't bring it into small spaces that small characters are known for getting into. Per RAW, it's completely legal, I just think it would look ridiculous.
Those instances are when I use my infuse crossbow or my hand ax. And I am an artificer storing my lance is not an issue. It is my Steel Defenders tail. I store it well....... where you normally put a tail.
It will fit a great deal of distance inside. And some parts are telescopic. I also added fur to the end so when it is stored it looks proper. The hard par was making it telescoping and still maintaining structural integrity for battle. But I managed. Besides you are thinking of a human lance. This is based on a Gnomish lance.

If you shortened it to fit a gnome's stature then it would lose the Reach property, as this is dependent on the length of the weapon. You can't make a 10' melee attack with a weapon that doesn't reach 10'.
Oh my lance has full length after I extend it out. With gnomish design it does not take much to extend our lance fully. Plus since it has infusion, I am quite good with it too.

Technically it's up to the DM to make that final decision. So as long as the DM is cool with it, it would be fine. Just means the players and DM have to have a good line of communication for confirmation purposes
And it is. A 3' character with a 10' weapon is just silly. You say it's not a "human" lance but a "gnomish" lance, but then you say it extends to 10'. I don't care who made it, it's still an absurdly large weapon for a gnome.

As is everything in game. But as DM it would be a hard sell to allow a weapon that doesn't reach 10' to make a 10' melee attack.
But it telescopes to 10 feet so who cares? It sounds like a fun scenario having a gnomish jouster. It may not work for you, so if you encounter it as a DM you can make that decision.
Honestly, no one. I'm just saying a gnome with a full size lance would look silly. Silly doesn't mean bad. I already said it was creative and I agree that a gnome artifacer building a collapsible lance is a neat concept. But it sounded to me like he meant the lance was sized proportional to a gnome which, mechanically, would not have the same reach as a lance proportional to a size medium creature.
In the Character sheet how do I show my character mounted on my Steel Defender?
I have a lance and the rules say it is two handed unless mounted. So how do you mount
in the character sheet?
Maybe you can try adding it into extras? I've never used them before but I think mounts go there.
There is no toggle for mounting in character sheet. It doesn't change any stats.
When mounted you can use lance one handed

It has a 10' tail? Or is it a callapsable lance? If so, you get creativity points for that one. lol

Maybe it's spring-loaded? It's already collapsible. Seems like something a Gnome would do lol.
