I had an idea of publishing a book full of fantastic places and rumors. Basically, it would serve as a prompt for GMs creating their own adventures as well as a visual aid they could share with players when describing an ancient temple or a mage's tower or an archdruid's abode.
But, then I thought that something like this may already exist.
Do you use something like this? If so, can you recommend what you use?
To be honest I would love to have a book of nothing but location art to show during games...haven't found one yet though. I think a sci-fi one for my Star Wars games would be amazing too.
I know I've seen ads for like... books of premade combat encounters that could be slotted into most players' games, but I don't recall seeing one that's more just world-building in general.
If you want generic art to be used/displayed in D&D games, check out the Art of Magic the Gathering. series. A lot of the major sets have had art books with strong unifying themes
Zendikar - Adventuring through jungles and fighting exotic monsters
Innistrad - Gothic horror and eldritch abominations
Kaladesh - Magepunk with middle eastern theming
Amonkhet - Ancient egyptian style set combined with the hunger games/running man
Ixalan - Vampire conquistadors and magic wielding pirates fight mesoamericans on dinosaurs in the rainforest
Ravnica - Central european inspired city world governed by ten feuding guilds
