Well done SK! You get another answer point on our mod charts!
Also, totally not a noob question - the first time I made a character with the XP vs. Milestone it took me some time to figure out where I entered it as well.
I can only find the manage levels option under my character. It doesn't give the option to just add straight exp. Is there a way to change that or am I just not looking in the right place?

Your character is probably set to milestone advancement. Edit the character and set it to XP, and you should get the option
I'm hoping that they will eventually implement a tracker (similar to the one ForgedAnvil had on his excellent Excel sheet before he was issued with a Cease and Desist by WoTC) so you can track how much xp you got each session (rather than just seeing the current xp/being able to add and subtract xp). I know BadEye has discussed it in the distant past in Dev Updates, not sure if it is still on the roadmap under the character sheet ongoing revamp.
I believe so. Here is how I did it. Bring up the character to view, then click on the "Anvil and Hammer" icon to "Go to builder". Then just to the left of "1. Class" is "Home" - click on that. Then scroll down to "Advancement Type" and it should show a box with either Milestone or XP. Change it to your preference. Now back on the character sheet page just under your character name there should be your current character level and a line for the current experience. Click on that to open the option to enter (or remove) XP points.
I post this as a PC user and a relative amateur using D&DB's character tool, so very sorry if I am not clear enough.

Seriously. I've looked. I've searched. I've Googled. How do I track experience points on my character in D&D Beyond?

I wish all of the questions were this easy to deal with! :)

Milestone vs XP.... that's what it was.
