I know there are many other Roll20 sources online but I love coming here and can not believe there is not a Roll20 Help thread already. If there is, DnDBeyon's Search needs to be fixed because I have tried: "Roll20" and: "Roll 20" with no results. I onl yget other people asking specific questions and I do not want to hijack their threads. If you are part of a General Q&A Roll20 help thread here please share with me, thank you. I have many questions and know that many of you can help me. In the unlikely event that this is the first Roll20 thread, I would like to start by saying I have been trying to teach myself but many videos or online information seems to be outdated. Fog of War is currently giving me the most trouble in the design phase. I understand a little of it but currently, when I re-join as a player to test the map when the character moves, the new area is revealed but everything in the lighted area from where the character left is erased. In other words, it becomes white. Going back to where the player started does not help. It is literally as though I am in a drawing program and the move feature is an eraser...it is not permanent. When I rejoin as GM or go back in as a player it has been reset. Why is that? Thank you,
Roll20 and D&D Beyond are two different and separate companies. It would be like going to a Microsoft forums asking about an Apple issue. Roll20 and D&D Beyond can both do D&D things, and Microsoft and Apple can both do computer things, but that does not mean those pairs of companies are affiliated or the same. Roll20 and D&D Beyond are completely different platforms, just like how Fantasy Grounds and D20Pro are also distinct platforms.
It would be nice to have its own subforum somewhere on this site, although I do not think it is necessary. For urgent issues, it is best to use Roll20's forums or contact their customer support directly.
Roll20's forums are the best place to look, and also the embedded help pages on their site. Specifically for fog of war, they just changed it. Anything older than a few days ago is considered "legacy" and their new controls can conflict with the old. All of that is fully discussed in their forums.
Let me answer a question with a question: why are you looking for info on Roll20 on D&D Beyond? It's like coming to an apple store to ask for advice about your Samsung phone. Sure, both are phones, but they aren't the same thing. A piece of info applying to one won't necessarily apply to the other. I think you're better off asking questions about Roll20 on the Roll20 forums, and questions about DDB on the DDB forums.
I will say though, that there is already a lot of discussion on the "Beyond20 integration" on this site... more than on Roll20. I do understand the reasoning for asking, as those threads and others are probably the starting point for a lot of people into Roll20. Having frequented both forums, though, Roll20's forums are much better suited to getting technical answers for that software than they ever would be here. (If for no other reason than that they are searchable and have linked tags for similar issues, something that DnDBeyond will definitely need if/when they launch a VTT.)

Thank you. I agree which is why I started my thread with: "I know there are many other Roll20 sources online but I love coming here and can not believe there is not a Roll20 Help thread already." I am not sure why two other posters felt a need to use an incorrect analogy or answer a question with a question. I love these forums and have been given answers to every question I have ever asked, as well as answering questions for new users. I have never once criticized a question. It is sad. I just read a very long Thread about 3D Printers. The poster wanted help with using one. Nothing wrong with asking that question about products outside of DnDBeyond. Thanks again for your positive words.
You could have simply pressed the little arrow that allows you to go back, ignore my question since it is valid and nothing like your analogy...
You do not have to like our answers, but our answers are no less valid than your questions.
I agree that it would be nice to have a subforum or thread dedicated to Roll20 and other platforms, but DDB's staff are not suited to provide the help and support for other platforms. Other DDB users may be able to provide help and support, but it probably will not be as good as just asking on other platforms' forums directly. Similarly, if a user has issues with DDB, it is better to come to DDB directly for help rather than going to Roll20, whose staff are not suited for addressing issues on DDB. While I have not dug very deeply into Roll20's forums, I do not see any dedicated threads for DDB outside Beyond20 integration and some of their users' requests to link DDB to Roll20.
If the user has an issue that involves both companies, like Beyond20 integration or Apple's version of Word for example, it is good to seek help from both companies. However, for issues that strictly involve one company, it is kind of awkward to go to a competing company asking for help. I use both Facebook and Twitter, but it does not really make sense for me to go to Facebook to ask about issues with Twitter when I can go to Twitter directly and have a stronger and more immediate support.
There are a few things going on and depending on how you set the page up with the new and old dynamic lighting, fog of war, explorer mode and how the settings on the tokens are setup can be very confusing. I recommend creating another account for testing purposes that controls a player token. This way you can have 2 windows open and know for sure what the player will actually see and see faster results as you play around with the options. I found in many situations the rejoin as player option does not simulate it very well.

Thank you for replying! I created an account for my daughter and that is exactly what I am doing. I also switch between player mode and GM mode to test things out. But you might be right about the toggle not being good. Currently having an issue with the internet but also on my daughter's screen she is seeing half of the map that had built-in dynamic lighting. It has to be a glitch as it is a triangle shape. at the top of map and bottom of map, nowhere else. I do not see it on my player mode. Thanks again for the advice!
