Happy Shark Week 2020! It kicked off yesterday! August 9th, 2020! Today we are taking a look at all the various SHARKS in Dungeons and Dragons, the world’s most famous role playing game! 5th Edition and beyond! (Also, as with anything D&D there is even more sharky-ness out there to be found if you dive deep enough...)
How about a Sharknado?!
For a shark fin-atic like me, there’s plenty of SHARK action to be found in the game, Dungeons and Dragons. In the Monster Manual, you can find the three most notorious sharks: Reef Sharks, Hunter Sharks, and Giant Sharks:
…and there’s much, much more! The deeper you investigate, the more shark good-ness you’ll find…
Weresharks, zombie sharks, dragon sharks, flying sharks, shark familiars, shark mounts, shark gods, shark adventures and modules, and much more! Dungeons and Dragons is Jawesome!
Here’s a picture from a GIANT SHARK encounter I ran recently! In this picture the adventurers are heading to their next location, when out of nowhere a giant shark attacks their keelboat! The Barbarian Druid has transformed into a giant squid and is in the water with the shark, while holding onto a powder keg HAHA!
The giant shark was sculpted and painted by Davina Jones. I hand painted the characters using peg dolls and the 2-D terrain is Dungeon Craft by 1985 Games. The above pictures also feature die-cast metal official D&D figures from Jada Toys.

It's a reference to a 3.5 supplement that had a template for acid-breathing monsters (aquatic monsters that breathed in acid instead of water). The example was an acid-breathing shark.

At least there are no acid-breathing sharks.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.

HAHA! Not YET!
