You know, I've always wanted a magus like/gish/arcane martial half caster class, and some of the subclasses could be the schools of magic, death knigh, antimage, and more. Actually, just so it's not too in the way here, I'll make a thread for it, let's just homebrew the class if we can't get it officially. (I can't link so look for "Homebrew gish class" if interested)

Sadly the mechanic which the Duskblade and Magus was famous for got stolen by the paladin and ranger, after they lured it down a back alley at night before clobbering it over the head and then going through its pockets.
The spellstrike mechanic became the strike and smite spells.
Hmmm a class based around channelling the spirits of the dead, or the spiritual embodiment of emotions or concepts into you would be fun, not needed but fun.
I think some type of battle angel would be awesome to see, I don't have much on how the class might work but I think it would be a bit of a mix between a bard and a cleric.

All in all, there are very few niches that remain unfilled, and creating classes that are so very close to an existing one purely so something can replace one or two of the main class features just isn't what I would consider good game design.
With that in mind, consider what we have already:
Intelligence Casters:
Full: Wizard Half: Artificer
Charisma Casters:
Full: Sorcerer, Bard, Warlock (Warlock should have been Int, rounding out the 2/1 split for each stat) Half: Paladin
Wisdom Casters:
Full: Druid, Cleric Half: Ranger
There's really no positions left to sit a class into. Nor is one needed, frankly. Subclasses, sure:
Eldritch Knight and Arcane Trickster already show us you can just add a 1/3rd spellcasting table to a class.
Monk shows us you can do custom feature tables blended with spells.
The Psionic subclasses show us we can add new talents to classes (though their exact nature remains to be seen)
Almost everything people clamour for can be fit perfectly well into the existing class templates - but people get upset about that for some reason. As if if they don't get their own title their concept hasn't been made 'properly' or 'correctly'.
Occultists/Witches are either Warlock and Wizard, depending on your exact desired flavour.
Swordmade is either EK or Paladin, with smite spells and combat casting covered by the two options. The only one I give some respect to the possiblity of is an INT based equivalent to ranger and Paladin, because Artificer is such a very specific setup that new subclasses are very hard to divorce from the base class flavour. But when EK already exisits, it seems exceedingly unlikely that they would just ride roughshod over its niche to find a slightly less martial but slightly more spell casting equivalant, no?
Warlord is battlemaster, and the alt features UA really expands on what battlemaster can do - assuming it will carry through to Tasha's seems a safe bet.
Psions are literally any other class depending on what sort of powers you want, because 'Psionics' is such a massively broad topic that it's just as broad and all encompassing as 'magic', which also fits into every other class.
That is a separate conversation from this one, Brachiaraidos. If you want to talk about whether new class roles can be filled by existing ones, you are free to start another thread on the subject to discuss that (Heads-up though, the previous thread on that subject snowballed into toxicity and was locked at the OP's request...)
Yeah this is more a thread for people to mess around making wacky class concepts, rather than a debate about whether new classes actually should be in the game.
I was considering (very slightly) a concept I am coining the Denier Classes (or Subclasses, haven't decided and I can't rule out either option). The premise is that you have begun in a class (one of the basics that already exists), I'm hoping for the character to be at least one level but that would probably not work out based on this system...
So something occurs where you have this sudden and impassioned loathing for the class you were previously supporting and holding to. Some of these already exist in one way or other and some are potentially workable with guidance. I am not a game designer nor do I have the knack for game balance and strategy, so it is merely an idea.
The Deniers are as follows:
Artificer Denier Class- The Artificer Decompositor- an untinkerer, unscrapper, uninventer *not existent yet
Barbarian Denier Class- in some ways this may be the Monk archetype of Monk (Way of Tranquility) *already exists
Bard Denier Class- The Bard (Rebuker) *not exisent yet
Cleric Denier Classes- This one had a few options for how it could be pulled off so I kept all of them Cleric (Apostasy Domain), Heretic, or Hypocrite each has its own playable flavors *some of these are Homebrew, Apostasy is not.
Druid Denier Class- seemed fitting to utilize Druid (Blighter of the Wastes) or Circle of Blight or just Blighter *Homebrew or not
Fighter Denier Class- in some ways this may be the Paladin archetype of Paladin (Oath of Peace) *already exists
Paladin Denier Class- This one had a few options and I kept them all AntiPaladin, Paladin (Oathbreaker), Fallen Paladin, or Paladin (Blackguard) each having a different style of play *some are Homebrew, Oathbreaker is not
Ranger Denier Class- Initially this one was difficult, I ultimately decided to use a Bounty Hunter (Disabler) for the best option, perhaps others may have an idea that might play just as well.- The concept is his disabling of different aspects of advantage to the ranger's expertise. Disable Advantage, Disable Autotarget, Cloud the Prey were ideas I had. *not existent yet
Rogue Denier Class- The least roguish thing in the game is the people in authority, but I ultimately decided maybe the Rogue (Inquisitive) could be flavored the direction of Inquisitor. *Rogue (Inquisitive) exists, Inquisitor does not
Sorcerer Denier Class- This is a great place to revive the Runepriest or Runecaster (Wild Arc, Magic Arc) *it once existed in D and D, but is likely Homebrew at the moment.
Warlock Denier Class- The Warlock (Unbinder) - The idea was shunning and banishing Pacts separating and weakening the powers at their source. *not existent yet
Wizard Denier Class- Alchemist (then something here where their science overrules the magic), they do pretty much make magic a science after all... They dispel effects. *It has been in D and D, but is Homebrew at the moment.
These were the main classes so I worked off them. Hope you can have fun with the ideas. maybe shoot back some ideas from it too!
i was think of a class called treasure hunter or hoarder were you gain power from the magic items that you have and can find them better. so kinda like a ranger that focuses on treasure or money.
I don't see a lot of room for a new class. Though I can see space for a psionic class.
Generally weaker powers that are more usable where they have focuses within that.
Areas that fit the typical powers of psionic
1. Telepathic Sphere
2. Telekinetic Sphere
3. Body Manipulation Sphere (personal)
I'm sure there are a few more but this is just from memory of a class I created a long time ago.
At first level you select an area at third level maybe another at 7th.
Each level increases the power of that sphere a bit more (a low level usable constant affect, and occasional uses with something resembling ki points. Where they add in new areas of power slowly to get more flexible and get more powerful in that area).
That doesn't resemble anything that currently exists and by creating a class that works in that way this allows use of that to create new powers and new areas that work slightly differently.
perhaps the battlecaster, aka the battlemage ultimate 2.0; deadly in melee and at range, a swordfighting wizard with innate spellcasting and many special niches

Death Knight class or necromancer would ( Or BOTH!)
WOULD BE AN amazing add in the Barovia book next year\
Death Knight would likely a martial half-caster similar to paladin but it brings debuffs and life steal INSTEAD the paladins of buffs and healing
Necromancer would have undead minions and cool stuff
add to the list an archer class

Sorry I meant to say a kind of bard and paladin type class.
most definitely

Heck yea, nothing is stopping me from getting my evil paladin/death knight/dark knight/ antipaladin from becoming official
I might start a gofundme or petition for the class

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms
What about a class that is like a unit of multiple lower powered character and as you level up you add more to the unit
like a swarm class?
sorta but not have a main character or maybe a "captain" who is only slightly stronger
