Does anyone know of a good way to make NPC's on the web site. Anywhere from random NPC's my party may encounter to enemies to deity's they may worship? I am in the middle of writing a campaign and could use the help. Thank you.
the way I do it is: Do they *need* a statblock? No? Don't worry about it. If they do need a statblock, I just kinda roll through the humanoid monster statblocks (like, Commoner, Guard, Soldier, Veteran, the wizards, etc) and find one that would be appropriate.

Trying to get your physical content on Beyond is like going to Microsoft and saying "I have a physical Playstation disk, give me a digital Xbox version!"
I have a hero subscription so I can create as many characters as I want and if my NPC needs a statblock I'll make one here-- that's only if there isn't already a humanoid monster statblock that suits what I'm going for. I've noticed a lot of the humanoid monster statblocks and NPCs are mostly lower level (there are very few above level 9) which can be annoying if you want something with more punch. In this respect I find it easier/ better to either create a character in the character builder on D&D Beyond to fit my needs or I'll make a homebrew version of my BBEG. One of my high level villains is is an undeath cleric which would be difficult to make a single statblock for so I just built her as a character. I find this method works best for long term villains as you can level them up relative to the party without doing tedious modifications to a preexisting statblock. If the NPC doesn't need stats I ususally just make a google doc with their description and level of importance and put the link to it in the private DM notes section on my active campaign on here. I hope this makes sense and is helpful

It sounds that the best approach is to treat NPCs as homebrew monsters. For example, I have a Mrs. Hattrick, landlady for my PCs. She's nosey, chatty, a widow (Oh, Mr. Hattrick now he was quite a character and a charmer; a shame about the accident), and wields a mean broom when needed. I'd like to give her additional fleshing out as characters would interact with her regularly, and she might provide useful gossip.

If you're expecting the PCs to fight the NPC, build them as a monster,
If you're expecting them to fight alongside the PCs, build them as a character.
If they're not going to get into fights at all, or they're not useful in a fight, there's no need to give them stats
