I wanted to open a thread for people to share their most fun, interesting, tragic, or downright favorite character ideas. I know a great many players and especially DMs have ideas they want to share. How about here?
I recently briefly mentioned my most recent one in a post (character sheet) in Rules and Game Mechanics section, but it is not complete yet. I do not actually plan to use her in a campaign, and I am actually not sure if I should continue refining her concept as a PC or turn her into a monster. If I turn her into a monster, I have a LOT more creative freedom. I am also not sure if the character should be an individual, or a template for an elite guard of warriors.
The basic idea is that instead of a cavalier being a regular beefy tank, she is elegant and refined. Instead of using traditional polearms to keep enemies at bay, she uses whips and a bit of magic to safeguard her allies. The main issue I have encountered so far is that she needs a lot of Feats to bring my idea to life, so she is not going to be able to have enough ASIs to hit well. Since I do not plan to actually use her in a campaign, I could just manually gave her 18 to all stats and slap all the feats I want onto her, but that feels kind of unsatisfying. If I turn her into a monster, I am not sure why, but I feel less bothered by giving her good stats and all the features I want onto her.
A Warforged who was created from a human skeleton; everyone thinks they are undead; but “turn undead” doesn’t work on them, and they typically have to cover their face or else they freak everyone out.
A changeling who was created from a fragment of an Great Old One...they have no sense of self, and so their ability to change their appearance is their way of “understanding” people.
A halfling gambler who’s a worshipper of Lady Luck (Tymora)...really leans heavily into halfling Lucky traits, feats...has a single dip into Divine Soul for “Favor of the Gods”; and the rest into Eloquence Bard for “Infectious Inspiration” (people begin to believe he’s a living good luck charm).
Recently, I’m revisiting the Battlemaster...making a bodyguard who used to be a City Guard; but he botched his job during an assassination attempt on his charge...adventuring is how he’s dealing with losing his job.
