Hey guys! I'm new to dnd beyond, so I thought I'd reach out to the community with some questions. I'm designing a melee shadow sorcerer who taking 5 lvls into hexblade for pact features and so forth. His race is going to be Shada-kai Elf who is a Spy (Background) of the Raven Queen. Campaign I'm going to be throwing him in would have him be lvl 8, which is when everything I have for the build comes online. This is the build so far:
Shadow S: 3/5 Hexblade Warlock. Going Pact of the Blade. Invocations are Improved Pact Weapon, Thirsting Blade and Eldritch Smite. Feats I'm going for are Shadow Touched for Invisibility and False Life, as well as Metamagic Adept to makeup for the lost sorcery points and gain some additional metamagic options. My metamagic options are Quicken Spell, Subtle, Twinned and Transmute.
I'll be lvling sorcerer for the rest of the campaign, but the spells I've gone for are: Hex, Armor of Agathys, Suggestion, Spider Climb, Summon Undead, Vampiric Touch.
Some starts I'll be using for the hexblade is Eyes of the Grave to use sorcery points to summon darkness and fight in it while using Booming Blade to keep them stuck. Any thoughts or suggestions on ways to tweak or improve the build?
You could get Inflict Wounds instead of False Life for a more combat orientate option with Shadow Touched but I'm assuming you'll be using sorcerer spell slots to fuel eldritch smite?
Bear in mind false life won't stack with the temp hp from armour of agathys but sadly level 1 illusion or necormancy spells are rather lacking so the only other alternatives for false life would likely be Silent Spell or Cause Fear if you want to be a little scarey.
Feat wise you get one at level 4 Sorcerer and one at level 4 Warlock so you're current level split wont let you have both Shadow Touched and Meta Magic Adept. Just to throw another option into the mix for cosideration can I interest you in Elven Accuracy?
Booming Blade would be using the spell action so you might not get too much use from thirsting blade as that would require the attack action to use so you'd have to make the descision whether attacking once with booming blade will be better than attacking twice with regular attacks. If you have the Elven Acurracy feat then you'd be rolling 3 d20's to hit when fighting with advantage which darkness would give you. If darkness is going ot be your prinicple way of engaging then you might find the Devil Sight Invocation more useful as it'll save your sorcery points and could replace thirsting blade.
A word of caution though, keep in mind Darkness is a large are of effect and by using that tactic you also largely cut of your party from helping you if it all starts goiing wrong.
Thanks for the thoughts! As for clarifying what I'm looking for, I'm altering the build a bit. Instead of Shadow, I'd go Divine Soul. Get access to cleric spells to held with melee combat. I know the darkness area isn't exactly party helpful, so I'm fine instead going for more cleric styled options. Like spirit guardians. As for thirsting blade and booming blade, I do like having the option of using either extra attack or booming blade. Depending on what the situation is.

curious, what are you hoping to gain from the sorc levels?
