Found a local place that runs games out in Kendall on Wed night's, but they run like four tables all at the same time, all close to each other. Kinda distracting and hard to hear.
Maybe we could get four or five to run a game on roll20
Lately I've been "DM'g" a series of adventures for my kids through No Thank You Evil, another tabletop rpg. That and DnD with adults are two different animals, but I'm willing to be the guide for this local group.
What kind of campaign would you guys like to run? Do you have any ideas for characters you'd like to work on?
Im honestly happy with anything in terms of campaigns, though I do particularly enjoy puzzles and exploration.
In terms of characters...
A Firbolg "Shaman" (Grave Domain Cleric/ Circle of the Shepard Druid) who is just trying to find a nice place to set up a homestead and retire, but is too high strung to actually retire.
A Bugbear "Carney" (Rouge/warlock) whos looking for a good laugh and fine food.
I've not done a campaign on roll20, but I joined to play around with it. If we have enough people I'd love to push to get a one-off played so we can meet and make sure the group jives.
Thanks for stepping up to DM! How can we move forward?
Wow, great ideas here. Already given me a few things to think about and the wheels are turning on this adventure.
I can see a weary recluse finally finding that small, cozy community across the lake - accepting and close enough to tend to your needs, secluded enough to finally feel that peace that's eluded you. That peace you're "supposed" to feel when you retire.
Yet, I'm afraid that Firbolg might get forcibly drawn back into "one last" adventure before it's time to hang 'em up. Duty calls during sudden disasters, after all. ;0)
How about the character's experience level, moral leanings, history? Grave domain/circle of the shepherd could lead to some interesting RP'g ops. Thinking high level or low level encounters?
Fascinating character idea! Potentially very powerful. Could take aback those townsfolk not so used to being around such... A Fun-gi. Haha.
Sure hope you always stay in control of that fungal/zombie infestation power. Could be disastrous if it fell under the control of the wrong sort.
How about you - what are you looking to get out of this adventure, character-wise? RP? Problem solve? Attack/effect stuff with cool powers?
I have finals in a couple weeks, so how about we look into meeting the first week of May?
In the meantime, why don't you both roll up characters (or we can agree to use the point buy system). Give me an idea of what level you'd like to play these characters in a one-shot adventure.
And let's see if we can find another player or two so we have three or four at a table. Then we can brainstorm a few meet up spots.
Seems like both your characters could be kindred spirits - potentially compatible values of life/death... But your orientations toward the undead could be your unraveling... We'd need to know more about you both, see how that plays out.
Just read a suggestion about pregenerated characters in an article on the DnD Beyond start page. I want to offer an opt-in to our players.
I want our group to enjoy their creativity and agency with their PC, first and foremost. That's one of my favorite parts of these RPGs. And while the suggestion seems to go against that, I understand that we're planning a one-shot. Not everyone has the time, inclination, or desire to craft a full character themselves for one stand alone adventure. Plus, I get that some of us might have emotional attachments to the characters we create, so it can feel easier to be a little more removed from your "baby."
If creating some pregenerated characters that follow some general guidelines is helpful, let me know. Private messages are fine too.
Sorry for the delay. I have plenty of character ideas floating in my noggin so Im not to attached to a particular character.
For the Shaman that I came up with, the long and short of it was that he was a Field Surgeon who was raised in proximity to Under Dark Refugees. So hes seen people broken by trauma, and hes seen people scrape there way to live full if drastically altered live. Hes a politely sarcastic old man looking to leave to world a little better off than he found it.
I'll build the character assuming we're coming in at the 5th level, and I'l just adjust as you direct. Will you allow any feats and do we get a magical item or ten? And if so then up to what rarity level?
Even though I want to be a goblin, I'm still going to be Neutral, and I will treat the undead that are bent on destruction or creating other undead for nefarious purposes as enemies. Chasar vah Yarok sees death as part of the natural cycle and through all of his spore and fungal dealings seeks a balance--not good or bad.
I'll get the story going. So that we can be consistent, will you tell us the specific world, place, and time?
I'll work on the character sheet and backstory and fill in the holes as you answer the questions.
Hey all, I am also in Miami (I actually work with Mark, who directed me to this topic). I have a tough schedule during the school year, but I'm definitely interested in getting involved in some short or long-term adventuring. Are you all thinking of starting soon? Would you be against somebody joining you mid-adventure if I can't make it work for a little while with my schedule?
I honestly dont think the majority of Druids wouldnt consider Circle of the Spore Druids Evil. They are essentially Cordyceps, a completely natural and ecologically importantly fungus, on steroids. The Fungal Infestations arnt any more "unnatural" than an awakened tree or animal. And the rapid decomposition from fungus overtaking the bodies, help replenish the nutrients in the soil, they would be GOOD for the greater ecosystem.
Al'men would just see Vah Yarok as some one who works on the other side of the biology department. Like he would understand that Vak Yarok works is both legitimate and important, but its just not his gig.
BUT that being said, druids are odd foke disconnected from the rest of societys morals and sensibilities so it still wouldnt have much of a impact unless where only dealing with the Emerald Enclave. And even then the Zombies and Skeleton made by the Animate Dead spell could me seen as the traditional unaturally evil undead...
Hi Mark! Coming in at 5th level is ok by me. Feats in lieu of ability score improvements also fine. The land is populated with many relics that you can adventure for, but if each of you truly prefers you can start with one magical item of common or uncommon rarity. The story will offer the opportunity to access LOTS of rarer magical items, even in the first session though, so be heartened if special swag is your thing.
The world will begin in the unmapped, frigid land set in what was the Savage Frontier of the Forgotten Realms, Northwest Faerûn, sometime after 1485 D.R. While it is for the hearty, the land of Innisfree and the nearby Lake Isle is considered a jewel revered and protected fiercely by the spirited townsfolk. The town centennial celebration is soon. While invitations are carried only on whispers, you've recently heard rumors leaked of strange occurrences as mystical and wonderful as the town is said to be.
I'm fleshing out the intro copy, guidelines, etc., and expect to have it for you guys by the end of the week. For now, I hope it suffices to say that I see us... going big for this one-shot. I also like this oldie but goodie from Frost:
Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice From what I've tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction Ice is also great And would suffice.
I can understand the time constraints that come with schoolwork. I just returned to take college courses for the first time in about 14 years. Finals are next week for me.
I would still welcome you in the story whenever you're available. We could just write you in and out for various reasons, perhaps like Critical Role uses Yasha/Ashley Johnson. I'm open to suggestions and want to make this a good learning and/or gaming experience for us.
@Feats: Im just the worst kind of nerd with other STEM nerd friends. None of us do the same thing, but we have just enough of an understanding to know what the other is doing is important even if we dont "get" it.
I was originally going to 2E Eduction befor switching to Industrial Engineering, Im just of bundle of vaguely tangential, potentially useful (but most likely not) information
____
I would be very happy to start off at Level 5, and Im pleased to hear that you approve Feats. As for the magic items im fine without them, but I have no complaints against common or uncommon ones. But its does bring up a question that I would like your input/approval on.
Since I would want to multiclass Cleric and Druid. Would you allow my Divine Focus and Druidic Focus to be one in the same?

Are you guys still looking? Me too. I'm in Miami Beach.
