I’m a new-ish DM looking for 3-4 players for a new 5e homebrew campaign. Here’s the hook:
Welcome to Amrys, city of a thousand stories. Amrys has art, music, sports, secret cabals, and secluded noble villas where the rich shake hands and seal fates. Ruled by the “democratically elected” tyrant, this city is an engine for one thing: change.
You are the drivers of that engine. Drawn together by destiny or circumstance, your party will venture out into Emrys—and beyond—making friends, fighting enemies, and changing fate of the city for good (or ill.)
(Games Saturday 8pm EST, discord for voice, roll20 for maps.)

A little bit about you
If you had to describe your prior DND experience as a player in 2 sentences, what would those be?
Do you already have some character ideas you'd like to try out?
Do you plan on using homebrew in your character build?
Do you enjoy RP?
What would you like to do/experience in a DND campaign? E.g., Own a shop, slay a dragon, play poker with the Gods, anything you like
Please describe your dream DND campaign setting in a few sentences.
1. I'm based in New Brunswick, Canada (ADT) which puts me about an hour ahead of you in Eastern Time.
2. I've played a few sessions before, I know about meta cringe edginess enough to avoid it.
3. I have a few character concepts I'm considering, but if all else fails I can just make something up to fit the setting.
4. I looked at it before, but I like making characters that just aren't complete bullshit (like a caveats or anything at all which they're not good at), if you're saying it's okay then I'm fine using it I just setting standards for myself.
5. I'd definitely like to try it. I've been in groups where it was overall just cut and dry action economy; I'd just like to think there's just a certain point where it gets to be way, way too much.
6. Having any character arc or character progression at all would be incredible if everyone here is doing heavy RP.
7. I don't think I have any ideals, I wouldn't say I've had enough experience with diverse campaign settings to have an informed opinion.

I just remade my discord account so if something doesn't work just message me.
I Luke to play a variety of characters. Love playing rogue that likes to push boundaries and is mischievous.
I enjoy a good mixture of combat and rp. Ways to "earn" coin that might not be conventional to lawful characters. I am master tier subscription with all the source books.
1. Hi I'm Joesua Live in Indonesia (I work night shift so I usually free on daytime), I'm interested to join you campaign, currently looking for party to fill free time, I do prefer weekend, but I'm available on wednesday night.
2. Forever DM, but I have so many idea I want to do as player last time being a player is about 1 year ago
3.I do want to try several character, but recently gain interest in this one character that is a gloomstalker/ shadow sorcerers, he is an ex-criminal lord bouncer (when he is a ranger) that work mostly in shadow (cut throar, bribe, defamation, etc.) but after his boss is betrayed by her right hand the organization scattered, suddenly he gain mysterious power that he might inherit from his unknown parent.
4. I don't plan any Homebrew build, although if allowed I have one uncommon hombrew magic item I want to use from my own game.
5. I love RP so much, but I do prefer combat over it.
6. Very much yes, I have been dying to find dm that over me full DnD experience.
7. Adventure and see the world!!
Jo01#6764 on Discord, I really hope to play with you.
I've played a lot of characters I really love warlocks they most of the time have amazing backstories
I got two a blood hunter and monster hunter who after having been given the powers of a blood hunter and the training ran from his order because he did not want ti hunt monsters anymore, also I have a Dhampir noble rogue who ran from his master and wants to be a true vampire, I also have a monk who studied ki so that he could make his life longer because he has an unfixable illness
Ye sometimes I actually made a homebrew warlock
Yes I love it a lot it's my favorite part of D&D
slay a dragon, play poker with the Gods Yes to both also leading an army sounds fun
I really like myths so Id thinks my dream campaign would be a world where the gods are widely know and the change the world. I also like a world to explore and learn about kind of like one piece not as good as one piece because that's unrealistic. Oh also I love when good or bad my actions have some Impact like oh I kill the king and just leave well the kingdom is now doomed
1. My name is Sage and I'm a veteran of D&D. I'm an open-minded person who's typically easy-going and easy to get along with. I'm polite and civil even in harsh situations. I have my own quirks and I'm not very quick to join in humor until I get to know people better because I try hard not to be offensive unless I for some reason am intending to be (which is rare). I enjoy friendly social interactions and like to enjoy spending time with others while playing games, including D&D. I see it as a social activity and not a job. I'm great at roleplaying, I like to think, and am very capable of separating myself from my character when the situation calls for it.
2. I am a veteran of the game, having played for 15 years and DMed for 12 years. I prefer open-ended settings which allow for characters to be created freely and that give those characters a chance to develop, both as a player and a DM.
3. Yes, I know what I'd like to play.
4. No. I will be building it by the book in regards to how it's structured, but how I play in-game would be potentially pushing the limits of what the DM allows in regards to improvisation and invention, again governed by the books, but not necessarily to the rules-as-written, set-in-stone restrictions.
5. Hell, yes.
6. Have an adventure and discover the world.
Basically, I would like to see a setting and world that the DM has put together with their own imagination and creativity. It would be a campaign that has no artificial restrictions in regards to who or what a character can start out as and who or what they can end up becoming. I would like to see all aspects of D&D being used in regards to world, story, and character development and in such a way that no player needs to feel like their being "directed" down a certain path. It would need to be an open world where players can go wherever they choose, but still has a story that takes place and changes the world around the player characters with or without them.
My discord is "Sage of Souls#0182". If I seem like a good player for you, please let me know. :)
1. Hi my names Drew. I have a family so my schedules a little… in flux, but after 9 central I’m wide open. I’m very easy going and polite for the most part.
2.I’ve played about 6 years with friends. We are on different schedules now so it’s harder to get regular games going.
3. Oh yeah. A bevy of character concepts. I think making new characters is what I love the most about this game. But if you have a role you need fulfilled I will oblige, no problem.
4. Not usually. I have no problem with the stuff that isn’t just bananas.
5. I like RP a lot. One of the pillars of a good game.
6. It’s not completely needed, but I would like to defend something that means a lot to my character. I’m usually just savaging goblins or killing a mad mage for a lord. Maybe do something to save my home town instead of the world. Just a thought.
7. I’m a pretty light hearted dude and I hate wasting peoples time. If I can’t be there I’ll let you know, and if I can’t be there enough for you, I understand you needing to drop me. I wouldn’t even mind just having a reoccurring character you let drop in and out once in a while.
My name is Kyle (duh) and I'm in MDT. I've been playing DnD for the last 20-odd years since right around when 3rd edition dropped. I can count on my fingers the number of sessions (not campaigns, sessions) I've actually been a player as for various reasons I've been forever DMing for...well..ever. My most recent group where I was a player fell apart for a variety of reasons (people not being on time, players being too stoned to function, deeming RP as "lame") so I'm looking for another group again where I can just indulge in a story, get into a character and just enjoy the game.
If you had to describe your prior DND experience as a player in 2 sentences, what would those be?
I've RP'd countless NPCs that had both short-term and long relationships for my various groups where they had their own arcs and goals. I have a firm grasp of the rules of play and now want to just relax and settle into playing a game from the PC perspective.
Do you already have some character ideas you'd like to try out?
Loads. Some better than others. Would love to feel out the group and see what would work well.
Do you plan on using homebrew in your character build?
Generally for balance I shy away. Depends on how deep the homebrew elements run. Personally I feel there's already a lot of flexibility in the existing 5e rule set that allows for running lot of different adventures without going overboard. Last session I was a part of the DM went _deep_ into the homebrew and had custom abilities and skills and custom classes...all very well and good but I found it mucked with balance and was constantly in flux as he was playtesting it with us as he made it so made it hard for deciding how my character might progress and unclear how certain rules applied. Some homebrew is good. Everything homebrewed can be chaotic.
Do you enjoy RP?
Hell yeah.
What would you like to do/experience in a DND campaign?
As a DM, my most memorable campaigns have always been where I work with PCs and shape the campaign to involve their back story and character arc so that, beyond just collecting loot and gold and grand set pieces, the character grows and develops. I find I get more buy-in from my players which means they're more involved and the game is a lot more fulfilling. So for me, I wanna set some story beats and see those evolve and reflected in the game. An example would be something like....I'm playing a warlock. My warlock signed a pact with the fiend for his powers to defend his town from bandits, he lost control of his powers, he accidentally killed his partner/child, he's trying to find a way to bring them back, at some point in the campaign there's the choice of progressing the party's goals or fulfilling my own...those kind of Faustian moral dilemmas always really get me stoked.
Please describe your dream DND campaign setting in a few sentences.
For me, settings are window dressing. I've run a lot of games and generally the feedback I get is story is king, settings are props to fuel RP. More important to me would be the RP elements rather than grandiose set pieces. I've played high/low fantasy, I've done steam punk, I've done Call of C'thulhu as well as just modern stories as well. The constant through all is just RPing and responding to the environment around you.
1. I'm Will, I'm 15, I live in Maine, and I've been dying to play a pretty consistent dnd game and this seems like it.
2. Sitting in a foldout chair and playing with mutual friends. Laying I'm my bed playing with my friends
3. Yeah, I have one for a variant human fighter who is trying to learn from the people of the world to try and become the best leader he could be for his land.
4. No my guy will be by the books
5. Yeah I really like rp because it help build on characters and the world around them
6. I would like to become the king of my kingdom
7. 5 years after the Civil War the outer colonies have only started to recover from the damage. During the 5 years a revolutionary group formed which all of the players are either a member of the group or connected to it in one way or another.
A little bit about you & my prior experience: My Name is Brian ("The Benevolent Dictator#9515" on Discord). I have played D&D since the THAC0 days of yore. I have played most classes in the game and I have also been DM with my own personal homebrew world. I love RP and using skills just as much as combat. Call it "thinking outside of the box" and I try to leverage skills as much as possible (I feel that this is neglected by many in the current system and it unfortunately lessens the potential of the game).
Do you already have some character ideas you'd like to try out and what would I like them to do in a campaign : I have a couple.
I would love to play a blind Human monk that is out seeking true meaning and inner peace of the universe. Maybe he would ultimately open up a temple (monks, clerics, even paladins) and maybe even ,erroneously, be considered demi-god like to the chagrin of the local temples and even gods themselves.
A Human bard/thief that is an import/export dealer with goals of becoming a mafia-like boss of a local city. Of course this means he needs to bump off those that are in the way.
A Fallen Assimar (maybe ex-prisoner from the Underdark) that has so much mental issues that he is borderline unstable. He is fascinated in death (yes, he is a focused necromancer cleric) to the point of being twisted. He hates himself and will put himself at risk but will never outright kill himself.
A split personality Halfling Barbarian. Think of it like a mashup of Fight Club and The Hulk in a pint-sized body. He is aware (actually both are) of the other personality and wants to either have it excised from him or come to terms with it.
Do you plan on using homebrew in your character build: Not planning to. At most I would think I would ask for something that fits into the background. But these would be more symbolic the practical in nature. However, nothing stopping you, as the DM, of using them as hooks in future adventures ;)
Do you enjoy RP: Um... Hell yeah
Please describe your dream DND campaign setting in a few sentences: Open, immersive, dynamic, un-forced (I know at times a DM needs to railroad, but trying to keep it open and fluid as possible). I would love to know that my character and the party is changing or at least influencing the world.
1. I'm a 22 year old guy, who really loves creating characters and playing them to their fullest. i'm a college student who has too much time on his hands and wanted to begin a new campaign since mine ended, I have an open mind and don't discriminate.
2. I've been a part of 3 campaigns and all of them have been a blast. ive been playing for 3 or so years.
3. yes, I'm a chronic character creator and have plenty of ideas to try out. I do commit to characters though so i wont be getting bored with the one we decide on.
4. no, official content only. But I don't mind playing with homebrewed characters or concepts
5. abso-****in-lutely
6. I like a good balance of social encounters and combat, but I would like the opportunity to work with PCs and NPCs to solve problems in creative ways. Say we have a showdown with a bunch of enemies in heavy metal armor. They dismount and prepare for battle, only to find their armor glowing red hot while the bard and druid cast heat metal on our foes, the casters keep out of the enemy's attack range while they take damage. As described in the animated spellbook "the cook n' book".
7. i think the best word for it is "purpose." I don't mind silly side quests. but when it comes to the plot and important events I like there to be a reason for what, when, and how those events unfurl.
1. Hi! My name is Rho! I am in Eastern time zone but am somewhat of a night owl, so my time can be flexible. I prefer Mondays and Tuesdays and well as weekend evenings!
2. I have been playing in a homebrew campaign for about 2.5 years and have been a part of a couple one-shots as well. Outside of that, I am fairly new to D&D.
3. I have a few characters I wouldn't mind bringing but I like to talk with the DM first typically to build a cohesive backstory that works well with the lore and world. I also would like to bring someone who synergizes well with the party.
4. I have been itching to trying out the Gunslinger build if you consider that homebrew, but if it doesn't work well in the setting I have other classes I'd like to play. If something works well in my character's backstory to warrant a little homebrew, I'd be down! But no, the characters I have in mind are not a homebrew mix made by me.
5. I do enjoy RP! I like a mix of combat as well, but little moments RPing with the party, as well as solving things through RPing and problem solving make the game awesome to me! I love to get in character and have fun with everyone.
6. I haven't experienced that much outside of my DM's homebrew world so I would just be excited to explore a new world with new people. I'd love everything to slaying dragons to getting drunk at the taverns!
7. My ideal campaign setting would be one where there is a good mix of fantasy, monsters, and political intrigue. I really can get on board with any setting though as well as the DM and group are passionate about it!
My discord is RhoRhoRiot#0283 so feel free to add me if you have any other questions.
1. I'm Paul, 55 years old. living in NC so Eastern Time. I'm a married father of two involved in gaming since the days of 1E. Though I did some online play (mostly message based and chat based) early in the days of the internet, I haven't played any sessions with most of the more modern tools. Saturday evenings should work well with my current schedule.
2. 1E-3.5 a lot of years playing in DMing. During 4E helped DM some in store games, but had moved and didn't have a local group, and now in 5E I've really not played or DMd any though I've continued acquiring books, and enjoyed watching various streams.
3. I do not have something specific in mind to play. I'm pretty flexible, though because I haven't been playing recently I thought perhaps sticking with a fighter while working to get back into the swing of things. Since my very first character was a dwarven fighter, I recently created on in the D&D Beyond site just to toy around with it a bit. Hadn't thought much about the RP/background much though. Based on your game description it certainly might be interesting to tie nay character into one of the city's organizations to expand motivations beyond simple exploration.
4. I don't think I would want to try to design something homebrew from the outset due to not playing much recently and so not having a feel for the balance of things in 5E. However, if there is some homebrew already created/documented, I would certainly consider making use of it.
5. Yes, I enjoy RP, love creating backstory and motivation for characters.
6. At this time, just getting back into a game would be great, but I also like the idea of having some influence on some of the power struggles within a system. Especially having to make decisions that are sometimes of the 'rock and a hard place' variety. For example if I help group A, group B will not look favorably upon the party, but if we don't help group A, perhaps we lose an ally or information source, etc. Not that group A or B is necessarily bad, just that they are focused on their own interests.
7. I think I'd like a city based campaign with a lot of the struggles as mentioned in 6, though with some exploration added (perhaps abandoned or underground sites within or near the city, or perhaps having to travel a bit further afield to retrieve something (object or simply knowledge) needed by a faction within the city.
Thanks for this opportunity.
