My names Finch, I've been DMing for about three years and I'm interested in getting to know some people in the community and having a good time. I''ve been looking through this thread and there seems to be an overwhelming number of people looking to join a game and I love running them, so here I go. I'm looking for 4-5 players who would like to do a couple campaigns with 3-8 sessions lasting from 6-8 hours on Sunday nights starting at 6 pm PST. I have a few short campaigns and single session games prepared. If anyone is interested please take the poll (descriptions for games below) and comment your name, experience, and character idea.
Once I have a group together I will create a private chat and campaign here on D&D Beyond to explain details of the story. Characters will need a back story, but it doesn't have to be incredibly detailed as most long reaching history will not come into play in these sessions. You will need a good understanding of your characters goals, fears, and strengths. Also there will be week long breaks in between campaigns so I can work with players on their characters and weave backstories together.
I run games with 5th Edition on both Roll20 and Discord, so whichever more players are on is the one we'll use. I like to do video chat campaigns rather than just voice, so please keep that in mind.
Types of Campaigns
Dungeon Crawl80% Combat, 10% Exploration, 10% Roleplay I have five different scenarios that can be played as standard dungeon crawls. This style of gaming is mostly fighting and while you do interact with NPCs the focus of this style is on hack, slash, get loot, save the person if need be.
Court Espionage/Murder Mystery 80% Roleplay, 10-15% Exploration, 5-10% Combat I have only two of this style, but they are a blast. This requires a deft hand and quick wit to play. These require players to be comfortable and good at roleplaying, you will be making mostly skill checks based on CHA, INT, WIS. Though characters may find themselves having to subdue a assailant so keep that in mind.
Explore and Find 70% Exploration, 20% Combat, 10% Roleplay This is your standard quest style game, players will be sent to find and collect an item(s), bringing it back to whomever wanted it. These are similar to dungeon crawls, but generally require more skill-based checks and players to be aware of their surroundings in game.
Infiltrate and Steal 60-80% Exploration, 0-30% Combat, 10% Roleplay A personal favourite of mine, these games, of which I have many, are played generally by a group of individuals skilled in DEX, CHA, and INT. These can be played two ways whether on purpose or not. You can be super sneaky and avoid trap, subdue guards, and get out clean. You can also hack and slash your way to victory and get out clean because there is nobody left alive to incriminate you. There is no right answer!
I have been playing for 15 years and am up for any and all proposed options. Slight preference for infiltrate and steal, been looking for an excuse to play a gloom stalker ranger.
Hi, I was hoping I'd be able to join you for your campaign. I've a pretty crazy schedule due to work but I can totally make the hours of your schedule easy since I'm a night worker. What do I have to do to join? Any chance we can chat so I can get a feel for do's/ don'ts?
I also noticed that most of the threads in this section of the forum are LFG, where I was hoping more to find some LFP.
XP: I've played 3.5E, and some Story Teller... but that was ages ago. Interesting... Eye opening experiences, about myself, and the people I was playing with. Shy about getting involved again, especially with a group of strangers... but as no one I know in person plays that kind of just leaves me the one option. I will not be available for video. I am fine with voicing in, skype call, some other VO Team Chat option... fine. I'll download (free) whatever you want for that.
My first character was a Nymph Bard... and I wouldnt mind playing something odd. I've got some ideas for a Wood Elf Ranger... I like playing characters who are closer to nature than to people, and/or who are adorably naive.
I have a strong personal belief in the power of names, for me it's the last thing that gets filled in during character creation, so that I know I've picked one that fully embodies who this person is and what they are about. Makes it kind of a trigger word to keep me in character.
My only thing is that I was looking more for a group that was heavier on the RP end of things. The main argument I'm using to talk myself back into something I've loved in the past but got very hurt by, is that it would be good acting practice.
PM me for details if you still have open slots and think that I would be a fit for anything you've got going.
@NekoAmanda: I may run some shorter games as well, it just depends on how well these sessions go. You are welcome to join even if you can't make it the whole time. The important thing is to not be late.
@DharcCharmer: If you are interested please take the poll (descriptions for games below) and comment your name, experience, and character idea. I will select players who have solid character ideas and good attitude.
@HopeButterfly: So would you be interested in some of the options that are more RP heavy? I'll run first whichever gets the most votes and then set up another poll for the next game. I'll be PMing everyone who has applied to get to know them a little better and see if they're a good fit. I would prefer Video, but if it's not possible I understand.
If I'm permitted, I have a custom class I've prepared for up to five levels that I've been wanting to try. He's a scribe that uses the written equivalent of the language of creation. The idea that went into how the class would work was the simple question, "What if Glyph of Warding could be moved?" The class is called Symbologist and the levels I've prepared and play tested are as follows:
A symbol is either a mark, rune, sigil, or glyph.
Sigils are used as a part of every rune, glyph, and mark. Individual sigils are synonymous with what all casters call "Cantrips".
d8 for hp; lv1 max die+Con, Intel and Dex prof mods, No Class armor, Paper Treating Kit (Used to treat paper to hold more powerful spells) Weapons: Special weapon martial: Magician's Brush (treated as bow staff but has the form of an oversize paint brush that can be used for scribing) Skill Profi: Sleight of Hand is mandatory for this class and you may choose one other skill of your choice.
Mana: Words of such power are difficult to channel through a mortal body and thus is limited.
Lv1 Perfect Memory: Has no spellbook, all spells are committed to memory. A new spell can be committed to memory by reading or studying a spell for an hour, making a DC check of 10+spell level, and meditating on the "words" for a short rest.
Calligraphy: The symbologist rarely comes unprepared with spells and wards premade on their person. All spells casted from a sigil, ward, or glyph is treated as a spell casted with quickening. The user can use a bonus action in battle to draw and imbue a symbol. It takes mastery to maintain spells that are scribed and therefore the symbologist can only maintain this many spells per level:
Lv5 Arcane Mark: Is a mark, not a sigil, ward, or glyph, and can only be used twice a day and regains this after a long rest. When cast, Arcane mark can either be invisible with a +1 to spell level cast or appear as a bright blue "ribbon" of magic that scribes out the spell being used. A mark made by Arcane Mark that is used in mid-air to cast a spell is called a Mark but if Arcane Mark is cast on a surface and imbued with a spell, it becomes a sigil, glyph, or ward but remains invisible with greater invisibility. If the mark is not cast in air and is placed on an object, surface or person, the Arcane Mark lasts for one month if undisturbed. The Arcane Mark will last a minimum of three days if it is disturbed and is dispelled. A mark is not limited to spell level for imbuement. Arcane Mark can contain any spell the user knows and if made into a glyph, sigil, or ward it is treated as spell level+1 for spell level of the symbol.
&
Call Item: Specially Arcane Marked items (which must be differentiated to the DM) that is limited to weights up to 50lb, non-organic material, and must be within dimensions that can fit within a 6ft x 6ft x 6ft cube can be instantly teleported to the user's hand with a bonus action. The object is in the position the user intends for it to appear in and the spell can only be used twice a day.
As a follow up to the other requests, my irl name is Anthony. I've played for a few years in both 3.5e and 5e, I primarily use arcane spell casters (warlock being close to my heart), and every character I make has at least one thing in common which is that they all strive to be immortal. I polled up above for the infiltration game since those tend to be my favorite types of games as well! I love rp and combat so it's a nice balance of thinking and chucking in my opinion.
*Side note: If my original custom character idea is off the board, no problem. I have many ideas that are "by the book", I just like to fiddle with new concepts!
Hi, I haven't played D&D before, so I'm looking for a group to play with. I've already premade a bunch of characters. Please let me know if you'll have me.
@Dragonguardin: These are short campaigns only. You are welcome to join multiple (as this will be ongoing), but it will not be a related
@DharcCharmer: Sadly since we are running this though DnD Beyond we will be sticking to their class system. Perhaps in another game we might play it, but I'm not comfortable as a DM to put in homebrews that I haven't tested. You are welcome to play a warlock (I would actually highly encourage it because I love warlocks too).
@davidnw23: Well welcome to the insanity that is DnD online! Please fill out the poll (descriptions for games in the description) and comment your name, experience, and character idea in detail
@TheAtticus: Please PM me some of your character ideas and make sure to read up on the players handbook!
Voted. My name is Adam and I would love to play a court intrigue game if you'll have me. I'm an experienced roleplayer who can put his acting training to use.
I have a few ideas in mind at the moment, but the one calling out to me is a Fighter with a background as a Gladiator named Kröunan Skull-cracker. An oafish charmer who loves to regale his fans and onlookers with his tales from his days in the pit.
Are you ok with players currently based in Australia?
Been playing 5e since release, and DMing for 5/6 years. Played in person and on Roll20.
One character I have is a Firbolg Circle of Spores Druid. I also have a Tortle Druid, but I can definitely make a different character that fits a campaign/group better. I'm super flexible with character creation.
Hi idk if you're still looking for players but i definatly would love to join. I love making characters and have dozens so whatever style we play i can pull out a few people to choose from. I personally really love to do allot of rp and character interaction but there's nothing like a good hack and slash from time to time so id be fine with any option. Let me know if i can still join and what type we are playing and ill float some characters by you to see if any fit your bill. :)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Trip wires can be nasty.. or beautiful. Depends on who's tripping them.
@WillBudge: I like the Firbolg Druid idea, for this session we currently have 2 wizards, a cleric, an archer, and a fighter. If you think your druid would fit in class wise you are welcome to join in!
@Grayfox227: What is your experience playing DnD? What character do you have in mind for the game options, which in particular? Do you have Discord? We currently have 2 wizards, a cleric, an archer, and a fighter.
Hey everyone! Just to get ahead of the game (literally) I want to see who would be interested in a Court Intrigue style game. For people playing in the first sessions 2-4, you can recycle your characters from the current game into the next one or make completely new ones. I'm thinking of raising the number of players to seven, but I want to see how Sunday goes first. If you think A Court Intrigue sounds like your cup of tea then you can PM me or leave a comment, I check back frequently.

I just rolled up a high elf wizard who is haunted by seeing her parents killed by a mind flayer I really hope I can join this game.
