Perched on the border of a steamy swampland, the settlement of Mire’s Edge has a number of problems. When they’re not contending with the heat and humidity, or fending off insect bites, supplies are going missing and strained relationships with neighboring lizardfolk settlements are frazzling nerves. Now merchants are being attacked, and sightings of strangely coordinated kobolds are leaving settlers afraid to leave their homes and inciting the lizardfolk to further violence.
Invitation
I am going to run a campaign to wet my toes as a DM. Be fairly warned, this is my first time DMing in a long time . This is a written module not something I made up myself. I have just placed it in the Sword Coast because I like the Forgotten Realms setting. It will be played as a "Play by Post" campaign here at D&DBeyond. Characters will be created using the website.
I am looking for a group of four adventurers. This module is an adventure for 1st - 3rd level characters.
I prefer to roleplay not ruleplay and most of the game will be theater of mind while some visual maps will be added.
Character Creation
Starting level will be 1, standard array for ability scores and standard starting equipment/gear from class and background. All class and background options from the PHB only. No homebrew content, race or class options will be available. I will be using PHB rules only. If its not in the PHB you can't use it.
Leveling will be XP-based, hit points at level up will be fixed.
PC background and content of any posts is kept to PG13.
No evil character's. You can be selfish and self-centered but evil actions, especially between PC's, will not be tolerated and ancient red dragons will appear out of nowhere and eat your PC if they happen.
Characters need to be COMPLETE if you are picked. Personality traits, flaws etc... You need to run your characters using what you wrote not doing stuff completely different from your ideals and motives, flaws and personality etc...
Player Behavior and Activity
Players have to post at least once per day. Missing three days in a row without prior notice will earn you a warning (assuming you do post on the fourth day, otherwise you are removed from the game). Inter-player rudeness for any reason will also result in a warning (not inter-character rudeness, mind you; don't let this stop you from role-playing, as long as it's all obviously in-character).
XP bonuses can be had for playing your character well. I don't want to see stuff like "I swing my sword" or "I cast a spell" Use descriptive posts and your imagination. XP won't be just for killing mobs but also for avoiding combat and other creative ways of roleplaying.
If you are interested in applying, post the following info on this thread:

The Plantation Town of Mire’s Edge
Mire’s Edge is a small town, with around 2000 inhabitants. It is encircled by a rough palisade with five small watchtowers. The walls are patrolled by a force of around 30 trained guards and a force of about 100 militia from the local townsfolk can be raised in times of crisis. The main street leading up to the plantation house is cobblestone, but was never finished since they realised what a terrible idea building with stone was. The road keeps flooding, and the cobbles are perpetually made slick by damp moss, and vegetation is constantly trying to push up from between the stones. Most of the plantation is traversed through slightly elevated wooden boardwalks. Wood is the material of choice for buildings here, and there are a collection of modest homes and local businesses scattered to the east side of the main road, with the cane fields that are the major source of the town’s income situated to the west.

I intend on leaving this open for recruitment until I have chosen the players to join. You will be notified by PM if you are in.
Please feel free to ask any questions
I intend for this to be fairly laid back and an enjoyable experience. But be warned this will be my first time DMing in many, many years. If you are looking for polished professional DMing I'm not your guy.
Please also understand that a play by post campaign moves slowly and can take quite some time to play.
Most of all, have fun! If you're not having fun you are doing it wrong.
One question. I am new to D&D and I haven't played a full campaign yet are you okay with new players in your campaign? If so I would be very interested in joining.

She relished in playing her lute and pan flute for the crowds of starry-eyed children and satisfied smiles of the elders.
Yet, her favorite part of the entire performance was the look of admiration she saw from the lead actor who watched her from off-stage. Many a nights they would spend looking at the stars and contemplate their life goals. For anyone else, they would see the young man's interactions as harmless and platonic. For Pomme, however, she took them as flirtatious advances and revelled in the thought that she had found her true love.
Perhaps this was the reason why her heart immediately fell into despair when she saw the new red-head actress stealing a kiss between curtain-calls with the man of her dreams. Devestated, Pomme took up her belongings and parted ways from the group for good. She would find her own stardom and adoration from fans throughout the realm in her own and prove that terribly beautiful man that he had chosen the wrong woman to fall in love with.
Now she finds herself traveling the lands, performing and busking wherever she can to get a shiny gold piece or a new patron and fan to add to her quest of fame and celebrity. Her travels have led her to this new village of Mire's Edge to look for her next performance and possibly her next claim to fame.

Availability: PBP Ranges from 1-7 times a day / 7 times a week (depends on the groups needs) Character Name: November Falls Race: Human (I believe) 5th ED Class: Sorc 5th Alignment: N.G. Character Description: November stands a tall six foot 4, and looks given his weight of 200 lbs. If it wasn't obvious from the scar cleanly cut across the bridge of his nose, you could tell from slight cauliflower ear that he's been in more than a fight or two. Backstory:
While November was first opening his eyes, he had no idea of the uncertain future that awaited him. How could he, for he had just been born in the city of Baldur’s Gate, Western Heartlands. He was blessed with a younger brother sometime shortly after, Maximus. As they aged they grow up just like every other child, going to school, making friends, making enemies, being taught what is right as well as what is wrong. Maximus strayed away from violence, while November often fantasized about it. At around the age of 6, November realized the power of violence when his younger brother was being verbally assaulted by a boy much larger than both.
When November asked him to stop, he became the target of this young boys attention and began to bully him. November thought to himself, “He’s driving me to point of anger, yet violence is wrong. Seemingly nothing I say gets him to stop.” He found himself staring at the ground while his brother was crying. In a quick motion, looking up from the ground, he slammed his fist into the boys stomach. There was no time to react, and the larger boy was caught cold; instantly winded while falling to his knees.
November turned to his brother and extended a helping hand. As he was walking with him, his father saw what transpired and immediately picked him up off the ground. After being carried away from the scene, his father, Smith (Member of the Flaming Fist), could be found scolding him, though the underlying message was that of praise.
Time went on, the bullies never stopped, and violence always drove the point home. Eventually he developed his own set of demons, resentment being the first, violence being the second, and others would arise through his life; as such was the nature of the beast. By the time he was 14 anger, had taken on to being a part of his personality. This led him to believe in his own form of justice. He actively started seeking out those who would require his assistance and took them in.
Eventually he was sent away for schooling, and true to his nature he ended up doing drugs. Depressants were usually the drug of choice, and the justifying thought was, that since they slow him down, they would make life more difficult. In his own mind, this would help him when he was sober, given that he was used to being constantly dulled to his own emotions, and further more, by depressants.
He was always a bit chubby for his height, and that finally started to change. Shifting his attention from schooling, towards getting fit, as well as mentally prepared to learn magic led to him doing poorly in class. Once Smith caught word of this he immediately pulled his child out of classes. November struggled and tried to negotiate his way out of it, though realizing what his actions were saying about himself; he went home.
Upon arrival he was not greeted with open arms, it was quite the opposite. He was thrown into a jail, which would become his new home. He was forced to train and learn how to focus his mind. He was not allowed any form of depressants during this time, and had to focus himself towards his new goal of controlling magic. Smith would often pay him a visit and repeat unto him, “Those of fragile discipline can only have fragile power. Once you have obtained great discipline you can obtain great power.” The valiant knight’s final lesson to his son; before time ultimately erased him history.
By the time he was 21, he had been in minor skirmishes, given the fact that he was enlisted in a mercenary group (Flaming Fist if possible) of his home town. His weapons of choice were always the same, his mind, his hands, and his mouth. Eventually he was permitted to leave given his heritage and performance, and after paying his respects did just that.
He had been hearing of a relatively small town called Mire’s Edge and felt that he might be of service there.
I may be too late to the party, but gonna throw in my hat anyways =) I am a veteran RPGer and PBPer =)

He wears chainmail, wields a Morningstar, and carries a shield with the crest of Mire's Edge roughly painted on it. He is usually smiling and talking with the other townsfolk. Backstory: Kirinar is one of the local militia, although he aspires to be part of the Elite Guard (a title he gives to the trained guards...) He has lived in Mire's Edge his entire life and knows only this town and its immediate surroundings.
Availability: I can post most days with the exception of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons
Character Name: Faen Evenwood
Race: High Elf
Class: Druid
Alignment: Neutral Good
Character Description: Long blue hair with a single streak of silver that falls down about half way down her back, startling green eyes with flecks of gold, very pale, pale skin, stands at about 5’8” with a slender build
Due to her lack of experience with people and the world, she can tend to be a bit naive and socially awkward at times but seems to always have the best of intentions in mind.
Backstory: Faen never knew her mother or father. Her past follows the time old tale of the crying newborn left on the stranger’s doorstep. Thank goodness that the kind hermit living there decided to take her in as his own daughter. She grew up in a cottage on the border between the beach and a forest. As Faen grew, it gradually became apparent that she had a sharp mind and a desire to learn. Druid Morn Evenwood was proud to pass all he knew to his adopted daughter. A quick study, Faen took in anything she could learn and displayed a natural aptitude for it all. She spent years living peacefully in Druid Evenwood’s cottage. Unfortunately, as Druid Evenwood grew older, there was no stopping it. After his passing, Faen was distraught and, honestly, quite lonely. Faen knew she couldn’t stay. She knew that the cottage, though the only home she had ever knew, would bring her too much distress. She couldn’t live alone and she didn’t want to live never having seen the rest of the world and what it might be like. Every once in awhile, she dreams of going back to the salty air, crashing waves, and the rustle of the treetops that she knew only too well, but she knows that she made the right decision due to the difference she has made and the friends she has made along the way.
Also I am a completely new at this so I may need a little bit of help every once in awhile to learn the ropes
Also a pretty new player, so this group sounds like a good fit, if there's room for me (lots of posts already, so not holding my breath!).

Character Name: Keyleth Nailo
Race: High (Moon) Elf
Class: Rogue
Alignment: Neutral Good
Appearance: Below average size for a high elf (about 4'9" and slender, partly from malnourishment), with bluish-ashen skin and short silver hair.
Backstory: Keyleth's parents were assassinated when she was a child. She doesn't know all the details since she was so young when it happened, but has a general sense that they may have been leaders in a movement of political dissidents who were tracked down while on the run. She grew up on the streets with a group of halflings, stealing to get by, and since she doesn't sleep, she has had a lot of solitary time at night which she spends reading everything she could get her hands on and tinkering with improvised mechanical devices. Her motivation to set out adventuring is to find out more about the circumstances surrounding her parents' death and, perhaps, pick up where they left off.
Availability: Any day of the week Character Name: Renvalm Hellhelm Race: Human Class: Barbarian Alignment: Chaotic Good Character Description: 6ft 200lbs Male. Never seen without his leather trench coat on. A white streak of hair runs thru his otherwise raven black hair just above his right eye. A surgical scar runs just above the left eye and another one is behind his right ear. Backstory: Renvalm Hellhelm grew up on the streets and knew that life could be rough and only the strong or the clever survived, he was both. Growing up he was bigger then most kids his age and with that size came strength and also gave people the impression that was all he had. He used this to his advantage when he decided to join the local thieves guild as an enforcer. Though this gave him what he wanted such as gold for food, shelter and the protection of the guild this also painted a target on his back. The criminal underworld may have had it's advantages it also had drawbacks, the worst of which was that you could go missing and no one would question it. The underworld would just chalk it up to a hazard of the job while others would take it has one less criminal off the streets. Unfortunately Renvalm Hellhelm found himself in this situation.
Going to sleep one day just to find himself waking up in a cell left him feeling confused, like anyone would in his situation. His first thought was that he must've passed out somewhere and thrown into a cell. But that didn't feel right, he had no memory of drinking and decided not to due to the fact that he had a job the next day and wanted to be clear headed. Looking around he saw other cells just like his own, each with one person and each person with the same blank look. For what felt like hours he tried everything to get a response from them but to no response of any kind. Giving up and deciding to try a get some rest as he had nothing else to do he heard a door open and what sounded like someone approaching with something with wheels. Offering no explanations as the figure walked up pushing what appeared to be a table with wheels with leather straps. Without warning the figure pulled something out of a pouch, muttered something, and before he knew what was happening Renvalm found himself falling asleep. What followed was something that could only be described has a living nightmare. For what felt like days he was left strapped down and experimented on. Now he knew where the people ho went missing were going to. They were lab rats and from the state of the others he might survive or worse become like them.
One day he awoken, still strapped down, to find the room empty. This was unusual because there was always a least one guard inside at all times. It wasn't until he heard the fighting in the direction of the cells that he figured out what was going on. Somehow the other subjects had gotten out of there catatonic like state and were now rioting. Not wanting to let this opportunity go to waste he decided to brake out himself. Straining against the bonds he pulled with all his might but the leather felt like it would never break, until he felt a strange sensation. He felt like his strength had doubled and giving one more tug he finally ripped off the bonds holding him. Wondering what happened but knowing that he had no time to find out he freed his legs and got ready to leave. Looking for a way out he decided to see how the other prisoners were doing. Opening the door he saw something that chilled him, the others looked completely different then how they looked before. They looked completely savage as the ripped open the guards. Not wanting to go that way he looked for another way and saw a barred window that locked. Using the knowledge he gained he picked the lock with some metal tools and fled thru the window and into the night.
Game tie in
Renvalm Hellhelm finds himself in the village of Mire's Edge trying to hide as far as possible from the ones who had experimented on him. Leaving his old life behind him he decided to use his new found strength and skills as a enforcer to earn coin with the occasional theft when times is rough.
“Spirit. In every language in all the Realms, surface and Underdark, in every time and every place, the word has a ring of strength and determination. It is the hero's strength, the mother's resilience and the poor man's armor. It cannot be broken and it cannot be taken away.”

Character Name: Kirinar
Race: Human
Class: Fighter
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Character Description: Kirinar is a strong young man, standing just under 6' tall with an athletic build. His black hair is a bit unruly, and his tanned skin reflects his days spent outside.
Love God. Love Others. Any Questions?
I might be a little late but why not
Availability: I can post most days with the exception of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons
Availability: Shouldn't have trouble posting every day
Character Name: Keyleth Nailo

Character Name: Renvalm Hellhelm
Race: Human
Class: Barbarian
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Character Description: 6ft 200lbs Male.
