I'm looking for two more players for a weekly DnD5e game based in Ravenloft's Domains of Dread with the primary storyline being the Curse of Strahd module. We'll be playing on Mondays weekly with games starting around 7pm CT and run for about 3 hours each. I'm planning to start running the sessions mid August. We'll be using voice and video through Discord, and Roll20 as the VTT.
I've DMed this module several times and really enjoy it. For this playthrough I'm asking the players to create characters that are human only, use classes from the players handbook, and no feats. I'll be stretching the in-game timeline by using the 8 hour short rest, 1 week long rest and relaxing the timeline on some of the module events. Characters will be from an area that has very little magic, and few 'monsters.'
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in please swing by the discord using the link above and say 'hello' or shoot me a message: CaseyDJCoyle
Newbies are welcome, but experienced players will probably have a better time with this campaign.
Many, many bad things will happen to the characters. For players that have played a few heroic campaigns and have a win or two under their belts this can be a great change-up to a different type of story. If this is your first experience with DnD it might be a bit of a bummer.
Characters will go from level 0 to level 10 through the campaign (if they survive).
If things go well for the characters I would expect to play for about 6 months real world time, about 3 years in game time.
I am interested in this campaign. I have been playing 5e for about 4 years now and have DM's a few campaigns and one shots. I have a few different characters made and I could make entirely new ones based on what you and the group needs. What are the rules for character creation and role-playing?
Players can choose standard array or 3d6 per stat. (Standard array is suggested, but shiny math rocks are tempting aren't they?)
We'll be playing using the Player's Handbook for characters. Some of the rules suggestions from the Guide to Ravenloft, Curse of Strahd will be used (but not for character creation.)
New character will be needed (though you can take inspiration from a previous one if something fits.) Characters will be starting in the domain of Mordent as 'regular folk in a haunted land.'
Re: Rules for Roleplay Unclear what you meant by that. Players need to be nice to one another as players. Guidelines for the community will be in force regarding general behavior. Characters will need to work together to survive, inter party conflict will be a quick loss. Characters need not necessarily be 'good', but if they lose themselves in the evil that surrounds and act as monsters then they become NPCs.
Hello Casey! I did join the Discord! I ran CoS for my family, but I didn’t get to finish it! I am huge big into the RP, and I *think* I build ok in combat! I’ll reach out to you in discord, but I’m also very interested!
Fairly heavy on the roleplay on this one. I tend to do voices (though my gruff guard sounds a lot like my gruff baron who sounds a lot like my gruff shopkeeper.) I attribute this to one of the rarely discussed side effects of magic and the spell plague... Wandering Accent Syndrome. If you witness someone affected by WAS it is considered polite to not mention it.
Swing by the discord and say hello and we'll get you included in the chat where we're starting to pitch character concepts and storyline ideas.

A few things people will probably want to know:
Thanks!
Hello,
I am interested in this campaign. I have been playing 5e for about 4 years now and have DM's a few campaigns and one shots. I have a few different characters made and I could make entirely new ones based on what you and the group needs. What are the rules for character creation and role-playing?
Thank you,

Oh and any rules for homebrew?
I’m interested, I’m more new to dnd, but I enjoy challenging games, and scenarios! My discord is zev1213

Unclear what you meant by that.
I see you in the Discord channel Zev, I'll follow up with you there.
All sounds good, and some groups don't like a lot of role-play or don't like voices, stuff like that.
I am very interested.

Hmm, I must not be very discord literate, I find myself currently unable to say “hello” lol

Awesome, thank you very much, I just added the discord and reacted to the post you put a couple weeks back.
Thanks Chris,
I see you in the Discord and have invited you to the chat!
