It's been centuries since the curtain of gray Mists have fallen over Barovia. Every citizen has become entombed in the misery of this accursed valley, their fate trapped by the land itself. These people toil and live out their lives in terror under the shadow of their mistress Strahd. Beasts stalk the night, unchecked and uncontested. If one is unfortunate enough, they attract the attention of their Contessa -- what else is an immortal vampire to do, if all that entertains her eventually dies? Few arrive to the valley from the outside world. When they do, they rarely survive the bitter year.
You stand at a crossroads with a tent at the distance. The forest grass is dewy beneath your feet, and the chill of the night clings to your bones. Candlelight and the smell of cinnamon invite you to enter, though you don't know how you got here. Something inside that tent will change your life forever. All you have to do is to step forward.
Welcome to my take on Curse of Strahd! I've been DMing for almost 5 years now, and I think I'm ready to share this campaign with y'all! I enjoy roleplaying, worldbuilding, and sharing lore with my players more than anything else. If you've played CoS before, you'll find that a Lot has changed. The game will likely be hosted weekly either on Tuesday or Wednesday nights at around 8 CST, though the scheduling is flexible depending on the player's availability. I'm looking for 3-4 dedicated players who enjoy roleplaying, whether they're old or new to CoS : )
What To Expect
CoS is a module that relies heavily on roleplaying, from both the DM and the players. Expect to invest heavily in the relationships that your PCs cultivate, their backstories, and their personalities -- the more I have to work with, the more I can incorporate into the setting! The module is also narrative-lead. The party's decisions *will* matter, and the world will change to meet those choices. Combat and exploration will be important to the campaign, though not =as present as roleplaying. Either way, I'll make sure that any encounter is exciting and important to the plot in one way or the other : ). A murder hobo will sadly not do well in this environment, but a hero made to interact with a bleak world will.
Additionally, I'll host tarot card readings for each character before the campaign begins -- these readings will provide information on the character's journey and what they may look out for. I find that it sets the mood for the adventure and adds to the mystique of Barovia. I'm stealing this from my first CoS campaign : )
CoS is also filled with a lot of graphic content! If you are potentially triggered by elements commonly found in gothic horror, please let me know with time so that I can calibrate the adventure with you. I'll also go through the list of potential triggers in Session 0 with lines and veils.
How Will We Play?
We'll be playing in a Discord server that you'll be invited to, with both audio and video (though video is optional for y'all). We can use our own physical dice, though a dice-rolling bot will be provided. If I call for a roll to be made in chat, Avrae will be there to help. Additionally, I'll have a music bot to help me set up a theater of the mind. I'll rarely use maps, and the character sheets can be sent to me after every level up (which will be by milestone). You can use the sheets provided by DnD Beyond or you can make your own.
Character Creation
Your characters will somehow be tied to Barovia and her mysteries. More than likely, you're a local Barovian with a bone to pick with Strahd. Maybe you're a spurned bride of hers, or you're a priest of the Morninglord set on a holy quest, or you're an adventurer that's following a lead back to your forgotten homeland. If you're familiar with the module, that's great! Let me know if you want to play with a particular plot hook; at this point, I've likely already made a change to it so that it doesn't appear as a spoiler.
To get into the nitty-gritty:
Characters start at level 3
Characters get one (1) free Feat. Lucky is allowed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You'll start with the starting equipment given to you by your class and background, along with the background's gold.
Most of the common species are allowed, though Barovia is demographically mostly human. Human Variants will not be allowed, since everyone is already getting a feat. Instead, humans will gain an extra skill, tool, and language proficiency.
Multiclassing is allowed (I love multiclassing).
Using a different spellcasting stat for you class is allowed, though it needs to be approved by me first.
I filled out the form and love to be considered, I don’t talk much about my class or character idea yet but I’d love to be at least recognized. Hope days are going well and look forward to possibly being reached out too.
