Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online (Webcam Optional but preferred) Experience: The party is relatively new and quirky so we're looking for an experienced individual or a veteran with a lot of patience and a friendly, outgoing demeanor. In other words, a capable DM who can be both a friend and mentor. Location/Timezone: Eastern Standard Timezone (US) Schedule: As of right now the schedule is Sunday starting at 3:00 PM, often ending at 6:00 PM. Saturday might be an alternative if need be. Roles sought: DM
Game style: We are (were) playing a casual homebrew campaign with a party composed of individuals who are either new to Pen & Paper RPGs or just new D&D itself. That said, we wouldn't mind starting a new campaign. The players are friendly, open to communications and generally looking to have a fun wholesome time. Our playstyle seems to be more heavily leaning towards semi-serious role-play aiming for a balance between character development and mechanics or combat, with four of us focused more on interacting with the world while one of us so far appears more interested in acting on the world in pursuit of fun, at whatever the cost. Our former DM was a "Yes, and..." type of person leaning heavily on the allowing side of things.
Additional Information (Background): The reason we are looking for a replacement DM is, simply put, that our previous Dungeon Master ghosted us without any explicit reason as to why. We've been discussing it amongst ourselves and the only conclusion we could come down to was that some external force or situation drove him to call quits. He seemed to struggle quite a bit with the technical side of things, though in large part due to matters out of his control; he had a weak internet connection which made video calls near-impossible and lead to some minor audio issues in regular voice calls. We had sorted those issues for the most part last week, and from the start he had expressed fondness of the group as well as interest in continuing with the campaign. He would type out lengthy session summaries after each (of the 4) sessions we had, and even (allegedly) bought many of the modules (?) here on DnD Beyond for us to use. As the most experienced player in the party I can't say I'm upset over him going missing, but I am disappointed given we seemed to be working out our party dynamic, all things considered. We all expressed we were enjoying it, and one of us even made a custom tray for rolling dice. In the end we can only speculate, and hope they're alright.
Our party consists of a set of five level 2 characters:
A Wood Elf Fighter
A Wood Elf Barbarian
A Gnome Cleric
A Yuan-Ti Paladin (and his camel)
A Levistus Tiefling Bard
We were playing a homebrew campaign made by our former DM, which he titled "Strygon". The premise, skipping most of the details about the world (which wasn't all that fleshed out), was that our characters were aboard an airship with a lot of other people headed to some place. At some point in their flight, the airship is boarded/attacked by goblins and a bugbear, surrounded in a thick dark mist. While our characters are able to take care of the threat, the airship has taken heavy damage and is now burning, quickly tilting over and in a collision course towards a nearby mountain range. Thankfully, our Bard (me) leads the rest of the party as they meet on their way to the top deck, to a room with enchanted items to survive the fall. They succesfully escape the ship, witnessing other survivors on their way down, and land in a clearing in the woods below. After briefly scouting the treeline they spot some survivor camps and 4 of them make their way there, while the Paladin decides to run off towards the mountains for no apparent reason.
Some passive role-play later the main group finds out that there is a city of goblins in the mountains, and a city nearby from which people have been abducted (presumably by goblins). The camps are not survivor camps but outposts set up by those who are now going to scout the mountain range for the entrance to the goblin city in hopes of rescuing those who have been taken. Our characters volunteer and accompany the first party to head out the following morning while troops are called from the city in case a war breaks out. Little did they know, they would find the Paladin's camel next to a large pit with a rudimentary elevator leading down to the goblin city. With some distractions, goblins are drawn out for the guards to engage in combat with while our characters head down the elevator flinging spells and arrows at a bugbear guarding the area down below. In the dark dungeons they will (hopefully) find the prisoners and their Paladin, who was tricked into captivity by the creatures and is now in some cell causing trouble.
And that's about all we were able to do! We were working on leveling up our characters from 1 to 2 for today's session, but yeah. To this I must reiterate that we don't mind starting over with a new campaign in a different setting. This thread is already quite lengthy so I'll gladly answer any questions that may arise, specially about the players themselves, the social contract, group dynamic and what to expect for those interested.
Thank you for replying to the thread! I can add you on discord to chat about the campaign and invite you to our server in a little bit. In the meantime I should probably point out that three of our party members are moving this week so we would have about a week's time until the beginning of September for planning and getting to know one another. By the looks of it, you will fit right in!
