Wrap your tiny brain around this I didn't buy dragonlance. So no dragon lance content appears on any player sheets in any of my games, make sense right? So I don't have to tell ever player. Hey don't use this spell or that item as its not in our version we are playing, it's simply not there I DID buy drakkenheim, so drakkenhiem content shows up. And drakkenhiem even has a toggle to not show up. ( so it's not impossible to make) I didn't buy or choose in any way to add 2024 content to my games, yet there it is So let's say. In the next batch of 2024 updates they decided hey players can't crit anymore, for example And that gets added to every character sheet right next to any attack roll. Now you have to explain to every player, so maybe not just your own group. But the hundreds of players that go through games in conventions or gatherings. t's the fact that they are taking even more control away from dms They've decided this is the new rules, and no matter what any dm thinks, in on our player sheets, What else will they add? How much harder are they going to make it to access what we have paid for after another 6 months? And we can't even say. Remember are only palyng 5e, because there is now two different versions of 5e both mixed in the same app, both claiming to be 5e
Yes, a toggle is possible, and we don't know why they didn't do that, but we also don't know if they are maybe working on that right now. But also, you are right. They are deciding that this is the new norm, and they have said that several times. The 2024 rules, ARE supposed to be used now. And I think a lot of people will start switching over kinda soon. And for those that don't, sure. some 2024 stuff appears, but it doesn't actually effect the game. If they took out critical hits, than guess what? You just double the damage, and bam. easy fix. I personally don't even use D&DBeyond for rolling dice, since rolling dice is like half the game. Now, admittedly, my group won't full convert to 2024 rules for a few years at least, but that's because we just don't want to buy the books yet, and don't really care for using D&DBeyond all the time. But we do use some of the new rules, and still use D&DBeyond for online games, and sometimes for in person games. But we really aren't bothered by the new rules that appear, because they DON'T AFFECT THE GAME! Sure, they changed the order in which you make your character. sure, they changed inspiration to heroic inspiration or whatever, and races to species. but D&DBeyond doesn't actually play the game for you, it just keeps track of stuff. You can still use heroic inspiration as regular inspiration. it doesn't do anything. I do still STRONGLY think there should just be a toggle for which edition you use, but I don't care so much that I come here and start talking like I'm yelling at everyone. Sure, you can be angry. Whatever. But please keep that to yourself. and if your players are genuinely to lazy to properly search up what vex is? that's not a problem with WotC or D&DDBeyond. everything they need to know is right there at their fingertips. Also, I would double check that their character didn't somehow switch over to a 2024 character, cause that should be the only way weapon masteries appear.
EDIT: (I just can't stop...) What are you talking about making it hard to access stuff you bought? Really, they are just giving you access to stuff you haven't bought, just not in the best way.
I guess I may have worded things wrongly. I don't have a problem with people being upset over what is happening, I'm not happy with it either. But that individual's wording makes it sound like he is 'yelling' at everyone and anyone who posts here, even those who are just trying to help. I guess I may be the only one who saw it like that though. I do agree that right now we have an extremely poorly developed and managed site right now, and that MAJOR changes need to be made. I have no idea what you are talking about when you say "because now you have a cross bred what is what cluster ????". However I think I get the drift though, and personally I disagree. I have used D&DB with the new rules for at least 15 sessions, and it truly hasn't impacted my game. I do now realise that there are in fact two or three things that could actually change your character, so sorry for that oversight. I also agree with everything you were saying about site changes and updates and such. That is another big change they have to make. Can you guys not just tell use when you change stuff and what you are changing?!?! Also, I do think that it is a problem that people don't feel like looking up the rules. Sure, they shouldn't have to, because those rules shouldn't be seen if not wanted, but they are. And that's that. And it can't hurt to spend a minute and a half looking up what weapon masteries do, or whatever the particular problem is. I don't know if you meant to say that the rules themselves are poorly designed? [EDITED OUT] I feel inclined to disagree with that. I do believe that they may have added a few to many things, but that's an entirely different conversation all together. Really, I still think the fix to pretty much every single post in this forum is to just add that toggle that everyone wants. Regarding stopping to figure stuff out, for the most part, players should know that hey, this is a new rule that should be ignored. Though again, this falls into the 'fix by adding a toggle', area. And for new players, well, again. I do think this is an absolute mess, and I'm sorry for them if they have to muddle through this.
All this to say, sorry if I came out a little wrong, and if I made it seem like I was genuinely angry at that user or something. However, my point does still stand that for the most part, these rules don't actually change the game, except for a few things, and if you are a newer player, yes, you could easily get confused. But like I said before. D&DBeyond doesn't play the game for you, it helps you play the game, and tries makes it easier.
Sorry for any typos and such, I'm in a bit of a rush and don't have time to review this post.
This is not at time to "Nerd Check" everyone on here. This is a time for solidarity for our passion vs. corporate greed (AGAIN). Lets not "Social media" this by nerd nit-picking every word that is said. This IS NOT an "ahh technically" moment. This is to understand that there are people who are running this thing that think nothing of us but that we are money makers for them. This is simply the OGL argument in a different version.
Fellow nerds...This is a time for solidarity, not nitpicking. We need the powers at be to finally do the right thing for all of us. We will get nowhere by challenging each other. That only allows this to go on for 66 pages and counting instead of fixing the entirely purposeful choice they made to force us all on to 2024 and to ignore our $1000+ worth of digital purchases.

This.
Imagine if the hobby could experience a real sense of community and unity as it once did when it felt as if the whole world were against us due to unwarranted stigmas of "Satanism" and "uncoolness." But nooooooooo. Online engagement and the sickening toxicity that so often comes with it sees too many who would rather get off on insulting others' intelligence. As if doing this over the internet isn't a sure sign of a lack of maturity. Among other things. That constant need to be divisive is pettiness writ large. Those who have sworn allegiance to the owners of the IP and who feel zero solidarity with fellow players even when the owners of the IP wrong them are consumers first and only hobbyists somewhere else down the list.
Okay, I'm just going to ignore the last like 30 posts, because people here have started losing track of why there are 66 pages in this forum. WotC has been seemingly ignoring their consumers for something like a month now. And that is not acceptable! Really, it's been happening for a long while, but whatever. We D&DBeyond users have stated what we want, and many many of us here have threatened to leave, and have actually done so! Right now, we want/need you to fix these problems, so that we can properly use D&DBeyond the way it was intended. right now, it ain't all that convenient of a tool. But alas, you have been ignoring us for however long now, not making any announcements about planning to fix this problems. Instead, you are to fixed on selling those books. Please pease please just take a minute to listen to the customers!
