Create a level three character with the standard array or 27-point buy stats. Please avoid Unearthed Arcana. In the interest of balance many such features will not be allowed. You may begin with your class and profession standard equipment as well as any armor and weapons you wish from the players handbook chapter 5. None of this equipment can be sold here for gold. You may also select one uncommon magic item not on the list below. Introduce your new character in the Glory.
Once you've created a character, you can throw in a description of them for Bdaddly to make reference back to them here in the Glory thread. Depending on the availability of runners, it may be some time before the next level 3 match, admittedly, but it will be announced on the thread here and via PM(which you will be linked to) upon completion of your character. Your patience is appreciated. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them on this thread.
Other than that, some basic house rules to keep in mind:
House/PVP Rulings(Amended):
With exception of spells with an 8 hour or more duration, which can be assumed having been done so prior to the match, other preparation is limited to what you can do within a single turn to prevent stacking bonus done by a single PC.
If you are stealthing or acting in a manner you do not wish your opponent to be aware of PM me or place your actions in a spoiler. If you act so your opponent will be aware of your action, or must save post it publicly. We'll see how this works out and tweak it as we go.
If a character is unaware of your action it will need to beat their passive. For instance Stealth will go against the opponent's passive Perception or Investigation, unless you were fighting and moved out of sight to Hide. Then it would be contested.
Spell scrolls will no longer be available(. (Exceptions are Spell Scrolls acquired in the arena as prizes).
ALL Summoning/Conjuration/"Allies" abilities and spells are banned. In that vein Simulacrum and similar spells are also still banned.(EXCEPTION: Familiars(ie from Find Familiar spell only) or those from specific class features(ie. Beast Master Companion, Hound of Ill Omen, Battle Smith Steel Defender, etc..) are allowed, but may be more limited outside of standard actions and traits; such as requiring a check to feed potion, opening doors, etc)
Additional House Rules:
Allies may act out of turn with each other (for the sake of action and interest.) Do not feel the need to wait for your ally to act before you post, feel free to set them up instead.
--------------------
When intending to use effective cover your opponent will need to be able to see the center of your space from the center of theirs to have visibility (line of sight) with 3/4 cover if you do not attack and approach from behind cover. Otherwise any visibility (from any part of your square to any part of their square) will give line of sight with applicable cover.
--------------------
If you wish to use a skill to effect an opponent (i.e. Intimidation) it will be permitted, however, the effect will not be as great as with a spell of 1st level or higher, and will have inconsistent effects on success. The character targeted by a skill will contest with one of two skills as with grappling/shoving (Athletics, Acrobatics) so if you attempt to intimidate it will be contested by the others Intimidation or Insight. (Game Runner will roll 1d10 and find the effect of your skill at end of contest.)
If you use a skill as an action (or where its use is granted by a feature) as in the use of the Hide action, you will suffer no penalty for failure. However if you attempt a skill AND an action but fail, the penalty will grant the advantage to your opponent.
It's a bird! It's a airship! No... It's a bird dude!
An Aarakocra with black feathers and red feathers swoops down holding a warhammer and a pink shiny thing. He does a few tricks then plants his warhammer down on the dirt and then stands on it.
"Howdy! I'm Apium, Apium Graveolens, and what is this fine establishment?" Apium asks, then trips, falls onto the ground, makes weird bird noises and mutters something about "Father".
Name: Apium Graveolens
Race: Aarakocra
Class: War Cleric
Faith: Hoar, The Doombringer
Background:
Apium and Father
To Apium, the world was unfair. Why couldn’t he interact with other people? Why couldn’t he spread his wings and fly to other worlds, filled with life and beauty? He was always at home, working, working, working. Father wouldn’t let Apium out.
“Get some water, bird!” Father shouted “I’m thirsty!”
“Cook dinner, bird!” Father screamed “And don’t mess up like you usually do!”
“Why aren’t you working!” Father raged “Stop sitting around and clean!”
Of course he loved his family, of course he loves his family, he loves his family, he needs to love his family, family is love, love is family.
Friends, are dangerous
Father always said friends are dangerous. Why should Apium need friends when Apium has family? Why not stay at home with Father? Why not stay at home with Mana and Chan? Apium loved Mana and Chan. Apium would always play with them! They had amazing adventures together!
At night.
Sitting on the basement floor.
Chained to the ground.
In a cage.
Father will come back in the morning, yes! Father always comes back. Father is family. Father is love!
Apium tries to explore outside! Show Mana and Chan the outside world. Apium keeps going outside, a little farther every day. One day he sees a village.
“Why would father not bring me here, if it is so close by?” Apium wondered “Father is family. Father is love. Maybe Father didn’t know?” Apium enters the village. Apium is excited, all these new people! Apium tries new food. Apium learns. Apium goes to a temple. Apium is confused. Apium is happy. Apium wants to go back and tell father all the new things he learned! Apium hears shouting in the village. A heated argument. An angry man. Father!
Apium is in the basement. Father took Mana and Chan away. Apium doesn’t get food now. Apium is screaming. Not for help. Not of sadness. Anger. Rage. Apium saw the other children. So free. As free as a bird! Apium was jealous. Apium was mad. Why wasn’t father letting him play outside? Why wasn’t father letting him go to school? Apium falls asleep. Apium dreams of the temple. The gods and goddesses. How nice they must be! I want to see them. Apium finds some charcoal and a big piece of lead. Why does father have this? Apium writes how he wants to meet the gods, and how he hates father. Apium falls asleep. Apium wakes up to a sweet smell. Apium looks in front of himself and see’s bread. Apium also see’s a orb. A pink shiny thing. A note!
“Touch me!”
Apium touches the pink shiny thing. The chains fall off. The cage falls apart. The door swings open. Apium has power. Apium finds father. Apium makes the house go boom! Bye bye father!
(@Thal: Just one other point to be clear, in case this is an issue. As there's been at least one aarakocra or competitors that gain access to flight in the past that tried to exploit this both to their advantage and inevitable determinant(ie. falling unconscious midair and taking the fall damage "killing" them... temporarily). The maximum height a character can fly while still be considered within the arena/active combatant for a match is about 30ft above the arena floor. If you go beyond that point you are considered forfeiting the match.)
(And before you ask, only reason its not listed among the house rules as there's been some amendments to it the distant past, and frankly doesn't come up often enough to be a concern.)

What is the general area like? What services are there?
Apium had a vision that someone wants vengeance in the area. It might have just been a hallucination from eating those weird berries though... Apium explores the area flying around and doing midair tricks while walking up to people, asking "Want revenge?" gives them his business card, and flies away.
Then he runs out of business cards. He is now looking for someone to make him business cards. He needs his business cards.
Also, Orileo please call me Thalai, if you want you can call me Thal though! :)
General Setting: After a long and difficult journey you have finally arrived. The town of Sel'eman was once a prosperous and powerful place. You may have read of the town itself, but more likely you've heard passing comments about what once stood here, the Coliseum of Conquest. In the ruins of the former city a new settlement has begun to grow. Many who had been lost in the catastrophe have returned and have begun to rebuild. Others, they say, were lost forever somewhere in time...
The partially collapsed ruins of the Coliseum dominate the southern end of Sel'eman. Splintered wood and tattered canvas litter the road outside the Coliseum where shops once peddled wares to spectators and tourists. Further off, near the former town's center, travelers have taken up residence in the abandoned buildings. The forges at the old armorer and weapon smith shops have grown cold, and the tinker's shop is earily quiet. Through the rutted streets, down the hill to the west, the docks sag into the sea. To the northeast a peaceful forest seems unaffected by the affairs of men. A river near the town, to the east, flows into the forest and ends in a brackish bog before it reaches the sea.
Upstream, beside the river, a hub of activity draws the attention of the new and veteran alike. The School of Abjuration and Protection Agency (SAPA), initially founded as a school of protective magic, it has grown, and now teaches the ways of combat in every form.
Inside SAPA, a sense of normalcy remains. Former competitors and new faces have become students and teachers of their craft. A tavern has been setup where people play games and listen to music. A stage stands at one end of the bar with a prep room in the back behind a curtain. Behind the bar a tabaxi with a scarred face and near permanent snarl ruins every drink he makes. Beside him a slightly more competant bartender is covered, every inch, from head to toe with dark green and grey cloth. Rather than prepare a customer's drink though, he seems to be pouring a glass for himself. Near the door a bulletin board is posted with a few ads and notices: ----
Posting 1: Hello all weathered and weary travelers. I thank you for your interest in our humble academy and welcome you to stay and learn all you can!
This though comes at a cost, as many things do, and that is sustainability. I know not what arrangement former owners had for stocking provisions. But since the calamity I doubt those deals or routes still stand. With this in mind I would ask that any who're brave enough venture out into the surrounding wilderness and hunt whatever provisions they can find. Coin will be paid for any donated to the Academy. Or you may keep your spoils for yourself.
The going rates are as follows: Small creatures will trade for 10 gp Medium creatures will trade for 40 gp Large creatures will trade for 120 gp Berries, Roots, and other Medicinal Herbs will trade for 25 gp a pound
It is not advised to go beyond any beast larger than an average beast of burden as such creatures are normally more of a hassle than they'll be worth.
Posting 2: This being a School we offer much more than trial by combat. As of now we are terribly short handed, but we aspire to grow and become a beacon of knowledge and bastion of safety for any on these grounds.
In that spirit if you find yourself tired of the traveled road feel free to become a professor here, teach on any subject you wish. Arcane, Cultural, Histories, Religions of far off lands, any and all knowledge is welcome here and encouraged to be shared.
(Any activity in this thread, including jobs posted and completed here, will not award experience.)
Overlooking the settlement from SAPA, one can see arenas setup around the town. Various bouts are being fought between competitors in their own pitched battles. The battles can often be seen in person from the sidelines where, in some cases, bleachers have be erected for fans. In all cases the action can be viewed through magical scrying mirrors set up within the school. Students gather around to watch each fight and prepare for their own battles against these same competitors.
