"My little brother Nundro is the one who tol' me that's important. You can look at it, but he's real excited about researchin' it, so don't try to open it or anythin' like that. An' don't do it here. Private rooms were invented for a reason. Keep it stowed, if you understand what I'm sayin'."
Belwar, I'll assume any inspection happens in private. Feel free to make both an Arcana and a History check for me please.
Daveth nods to uncle Gunni and stows the cube, "Absolutely, understood."
To Belwar Daveth will say,"If the rooms are shared perhaps we can share a room and you can inspect it then? If not, feel free to come by my room later and have a look at it."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I attempt to hide my excitement, although I don’t do a very good job. “A shared room seems like a great idea, Daveth. I don’t take up much room at all. I understand, Uncle Gunni. Discretion is important. I promise to just do a surface level look over. I am eager to bounce some ideas off your brother Nundro!” I will wait until we are in private to look over the cube. Anyone in the room would hear me muttering to myself snippets of history or arcana I think might be relevant to the cube as I look it over. Arcana: 14
About myself... Telurion pondered out loud - I am a warrior I guess, I have been one all my life - he offers - I am a survivor also, learned to depend on myself since I was a kid, and have managed like that so far - he shrugs - I can handle myself in a scuffle, and I know my way with a blade - the man seems to stop and think for a second - Recently a friend taught me sometimes it is worth to talk before drawing steel. Not convinced yet, but I am trying.
Daveth will relax in his bed with a well thumbed devotional to Lathander in his hands, occasionally glancing over at Belwar and the cube. After a bit he'll set aside the devotional and grab a secondhand book from his pack titled The Eye of the World. On the book's worn cover are a party of heroes on horseback, a large full moon behind them. Daveth will open the book to a dog-eared page and read as Belwar studies the cube.
As the dwarf start speaking, Kress finally takes a seat upon the table. As he does, a short bow, wrapped in a dark leather quiver with twenty arrows or so and carried on his back, become visible to more attentive observer. An ever so subtle indication of the rogue’s proficiency in carrying hidden weapons. He did not put an order, simply listened to every word Uncle Gunni, as Rockseeker seemed to enjoy being called, had to say. Good man, easy target. He said with the voice of his mind, imagining how easily someone could take advantage of the wealthier dwarf. Then the bodyguard spoke.
Sildar Hallwinter was far more guarded, prudent, and best of all, with his past as a law enforcer, practically guaranteed that there would be no illegal element to the job. Perfect for someone turning a new page, he decided as the other applicants introduced themselves.
”My name is Kress.” He started, eyes settled on Sildar. ”I work as an escort for hire to merchant caravans here in Neverwinter. My policy is to never guard illegal cargo and never touch the client’s cargo, just deliver it on the accorded location. I’m the agile kind of warrior and can fight both melee and ranged. You can easily confirm anything I just said around the High Road. “
Finding it odd that someone would make a point to mention such things, Daveth will focus his attention on Kress in attempt to discern for himself the truthfulness of his claims.
To Kress Daveth will say, "I doubt confirmation is needed friend, you seem a trustworthy fellow. I am glad to fight alongside such a highly recommended warrior. I am confident that our lives and our cargo are safe in your capable hands." He will then raises his mug of water to Kress and take a sip.

The box is definitely magical in nature, though you're not sure exactly what sort of magic. You do, however, remember reading of the Phandelver's Pact, the ancient alliance of gnomes and humans that created a device called "The Forge of Spells." When a group of mercenaries swept through to try to seize the forge, the resulting spell battle was something for the ages. The nature and location of the "Forge of Spells" and anything created by the Phandelver's Pact have been lost. But you're pretty sure that what you're holding is gnomish in make, from that era, and from the correct area, based on the materials used. You're as close to positive as anyone can be that you're holding something related to the ancient Pact and your gnome ancestors....
We will assume the following happens after our fifth party member joins but before the examination of the box.
[Gundren pulls out a small coin purse, which he sets on the table in front of all of you with a jingle and a plop. He chugs the new tankard one of the waitresses dropped off when you weren’t paying attention, then stands, heaves a well-made brown leather bag and map case embroidered with three crossed pickaxes and a large “GR” over his shoulder, and walks out of the tavern behind Sildar.]
“I thank you for the trust, but to be honest I’m not that recommended.” He admitted to Daveth sounding almost… Embarrassed? Is that how I’m feeling? He questioned himself, genuinely unsure. “That’s the reason why I mention that working policy and that it could be verified around the High Road, where it’s common for hired hand to get escorting jobs.” It was also the best way to avoid smuggling, but this part was best left unsaid. “Reputation is everything in this field and since I’m not famous, well, let’s say I have to sell my good points.”
There was also the fact that it would be better for everyone in the group to know what each other is capable in battle. It was the best way to ensure that one’s fighting would not be detrimental to another’s. There’s no such thing as being too ready, Kress said to himself.
“I believe our safety will be more of a group effort, but I will do my best to fulfill my part. By the way, seems like we have a well-rounded team here.”And that should make the travel all that easier. “I’ m guessing mr. Fixzlesprink is a spellcaster, going by his lack of weaponry.” He had seen more than a few of those back in his homeland, although they were remarkably taller.
"That would be an accurate assessment my new friend, Kress. The mind can be just as deadly as the sword, and I also find the mind more useful outside of combat scenarios. I will admit...I haven't seen great combat, but with you capable lot...well...I'm sure we will do great together! I'll do my best to prevent any arcane mishaps which might befall us." I think I talked a little more than I usually do...but honestly, I'm a little uncomfortable around this new companion. I'm unsure how to feel about them taking a particular interest in singling me out. I'm sure it's just due to the lack of weaponry and no other reason. I grab my books a little closer though, just in case.
The way everyone seemed to exchange pleasantries as if they already knew each other made the warrior feel... Uncomfortable...
Shaking the feeling away, he moved to grab the coin purse, opening it, and distributing the gold as agreed - "Five gold pieces for each now" - he recounted.
“I believe our safety will be more of a group effort, but I will do my best to fulfill my part. By the way, seem like we have a well-rounded team here.”
Telurion nodded his agreement with Kress while signaling the barmaid for another ale - "I will toast to that, and pay for the next round" - he commented to those around the table after their employer left - "Anyone care to join me?"
“I would never doubt nor underestimate the power of the mind.” He had done that plenty already and look how far it had brought him. “With our formation, as long as we don’t bite more than we can chew your experience will be no problem. It will only grow with time and as far as I know spellcasters are some nasty things on the field of battle.”
And he didn’t know much. Kress had a couple of skills in which he could take pride, but magic was definitely not one of them. His Poison Spray could barely be called damaging and his Animal Friendship was limited to snakes. Half bread is still better than no bread, he thought to himself as Telurion raised a toast and offered to pay for the next round.
“Count me in.” He said more than satisfied with getting some free drink. Happy?“You’re more of a front-liner, I take?”The rogue mentioned pointing to fighter’s shield.
Daveth will raise his mug of water to toast with Telurion, "Aye, a worthy sentiment indeed. I look forward to journeying with you all. Cheers!"
Daveth will hang around with the others for a while, sharing stories and getting to know them. Before it gets too late he will bid the others good night and retire to his room.
As part of his prayers before sleeping he will thank Lathander for setting him on his current path and ask for the wisdom to be an example of Lathander's light to all he would encounter.

Ammus stood in the corner, taking in the dwarf's words. His eyes glanced over to his soon-to be companions, and smiled. Well, this should be an interesting adventure. He looked at the strange enigma of the box. "Can I see that?" He asked, reaching for the cub. Examining it, he squinted, trying to remember if he heard something about arcane boxes.
