Zale leaves the Drakes, satisfied that they are being quiet. She walks up beside Khessa and nods to the passage, "Putting something under the plates might work, but it be better just to avoid them. We also have to figure out where they are in the first place. Eric, you seem the best at noticing things, plus you can actually see down here. Pay attention to the floor, look for areas that seem off, whether it be color or height. If any of you wish for me to try to disarm them, I can, however, that would take time. I would prefer to simply find and avoid them."
DM: any other check needed to simply avoid anything suspicious on the floor?
Nah, you can just skip the first step now it's trapped. No check needed. Zale can make a check with her Thieves Tools if you want to dismantle the trap.
Once it's pointed out, Zale shrugs and pulls out her tools. "Hey Khessa? Do ya mind holding that there pebble over here? It'll help me see what I'm doing."

"Sure thing, dear!" Khessa helps Zale, looking closely at what the dragonborn rogue is doing in the meantime... it's interesting to get an idea of how it is possible to neutralize a trap (especially if there is a strong probability of encountering many of them, in the course of one's life)!

At first you're actually a bit insulted... this is almost a kid's trap. Hmpfff what did expect from Kobolds? You've seen these kind of traps hunderds of times and never so crudely built. As you fix the the step and block the mechanism you can't help but smile at thought of Kobolds avoiding the now harmless step.
"Huhh, Kobolds," Zale scoffs as she easily disarms the crude trap. She stands up and puts her tools away, "Thanks Khessa. Hopefully all them traps be as bad as that."
The dragonborn follows closely behind the tall woman, doing her best to peer around the tall figure, she keeps an eye out for any more traps, kobolds, or any other potential threat.
No one senses any danger. You reach the bottom of the stairs. The cave splits here, to the right Khessa hears some soft snoring and there's some dim flickering light coming from there. To the left the cave goes deeper undergound and it pitch dark there!
"I think there is a guard sleeping, to the right..." whispers Khessa "Shall we go and take care of this? Maybe better to take care now, instead of risking the guard waking up (and giving trouble) later..."
So, you take a right turn. By now you notice the snoring isn't very soft, but actually pretty loud. You guess you hear multiple Kobolds snorig and some whispers in Draconic.
"So not a guard, after all..." whispers Khessa "...but maybe kobold barraks. Shall we go all the same? Or we go back and explore somewhere else? And those whispers in the strange language..." (she does not understand draconic) "...can someone understand them?"
"The problem is we don't know how many they are...." the dwarf mumbles "What you said is wise, but only if we are certain we can kill them all, and in short time. I think it depends by how many of them could lay there. Consider that we could awake a number of enemies we are unable to face; in that case it would be advisable to sneak into the other way and if we are lucky enough, they will never know we passed by" he takes a brief pause "also consider that the clash of the battle could attract unwanted attention from the other path, of which we know nothing about" He takes some second to thinks while looking toward the dark room " I would consider sneaking toward the deeper path, unseen"
Eric tries to estimate how many enemies could lie in the chamber ahead, with Perception check: 18

Eric is quite at home in these caves. He's pretty sure there are about a dozen Kobolds in the barraks.
"If there be to many, we may just want to try the other path.... Or we can go back and get those drakes. They seemed awfully hungry, if we could control them long enough to set them on the kobolds, they might even be a good distraction." She shrugs as she leans closer to the barracks, "Just a suggestion."
She tries to make out what the Kobold's are saying.
"mmmh to control those creature, I have doubts about it unless we have some spell more powerful than mine own" Eric mumbles, shaking his head "there are at least dozen creature down here, and one of us needs to guard the entrance, to prevent them from escaping and look for reinforcements... what's your feeling about it? We can fight them but they are just kobolds and I doubt that they will rush in to fight in support of their leaders, risking their own life" Eric pauses thinking " In that case I think they will just pretend they had not heard anything or they simply will escape to save their life... so, my suggestion is to sneak down toward the less crowded path, avoiding unnecessary battle"
"To set the drakes on the kobolds it would be great, Zale," smiles Khessa "but I share Eric's doubts about our chances to accomplish that. Hungry as they are, they might as well try to eat us immediately, instead of following us to eat the kobolds. I'd advise not to try this. Maybe better avoid the barraks and go the other path, for now. I think they might indeed fight in support of their leader, if their leader is a 'dragon-man' as they called it... Kobolds are always so dragon-obsessed... But since most of them are sleeping, maybe they don't hear the sounds of battle, if we meet their leader far enough. Let's see what the other path has in store for us".
