“I’d be happy to deal with them, but I don’t think the rest of the caravan would be happy with us.” Kriv quickly scarfs down his food.
Seeing Eric’s rituals, Kriv comes to a realization. “Hey Eric, you know magic and weapons and gods. Can you tell me anything about my maul? I haven’t seen another weapon like it.” Kriv holds the maul out for Eric to examine.
At dinner Eric takes care to make evident he is casting Detect Poison and Disease (and eventually Purify) as rituals. He writes runes on the tables, under the dishes they use to eat and pronounces dwarfish preys. Tiny sparkles, that fades easily, arises from the food and water, from a certain distance, it appears that the group is eating their meal surrounded by fireflies, while the dusk is falling.
The caravan reaches Daggerfort: a town that lies along the Shining River on the Sword Coast in the Western Heartlands. It is a walled town with a population of approximately 900, with a number of outlying hamlets, farms and estates bringing the population to over 2,000. The town is strategically placed along the Trade Way and fortified by the local duke’s dwarven-crafted castle.
The caravan arrives late, just before sunset. The unofficial leaders decide to take a day-long rest tomorrow. Some merchants won't go any further and other might join. It's also the last good stop before Waterdeep.
The past few days were a bit... strange... No more sudden ilness or poisoned food. But Kriv seems to have had a stroke of bad luck: a loose wheel when he was on the wagon, a spooked horse that almost kicked him...

Khessa, discreetly as usual, performs the Detect Magic ritual where nobody can see her, then approaches her dargonborn friend and checks if there is any magical aura hanging over Kriv that could explain this sudden 'bad luck'.

Khessa is relieved that her friend isn't affected by a magical curse or such affliction, but she still doesn't like him being the subject of unwelcome attention... Throughout the day, when she can, she tries to stay close to him and she also asks Nixi if she can task Isidore with watching Kriv's back (someone hiding from Kriv might not hide from Isidore... who looks like a common bird and would have a different viewing angle than Kriv's); Do Anator (which she keeps most of the time hidden in her hair) or Isidore detect someone approaching on any of these occasions?

You notice 1 Cultist that shows particular interest in Kriv's coming and going: who he talks to, when he eats, and where Kriv sleeps. It's obvious to you that this Cultist has recognized Kriv and tries to handle the situation himself.

At the first opportunity, Khessa talks to Eric about what she has discovered and proposes: "We have no choice: if this Cultist has recognized Kriv and wants to handle the situation himself... the best thing we can do is make him disappear, before he can talk to someone about it. I start keeping an eye on him with Anator. You prepare a silence spell. As soon as the cultist is alone, intent on spying on Kriv, you cast the spell, we come near without a noise, we jump on him, perhaps helped by Calvin, Zale and Zeminny too (Kriv not, since he must continue to act as a decoy) and eliminate the cultist, then drag him away and make its body disappear (maybe Calvin, as gian lizard, could eat it? Or part of it? Thus simulating an attack by an animal?). Anyway, no one will hear anything, if you use the silence spell. What do you think? Finally time for us to strike? Shall we?"
“Hey Eric, you know magic and weapons and gods. Can you tell me anything about my maul? I haven’t seen another weapon like it.”
"Indeed, My friend; Moradin granted me with some knowledge of iron and fire, An of brewmastery as well" he laugh. Then he grabs some sparkles in his hand and spreads it over Kriv's maul, casting Identify
Thereafter the dwarf explains: "This Maul was once blessed by Silvanus, the Oak Father, god of wild nature; There are still traces of devine power left which seems somehow ceiled. It could be brought back by direct blessing from the god."
Eric also tries to recall if he knows any ways in which Silvanus can be praised. Also he would try to spot if Kriv is close with that divinity in some way (maybe without having any knowledge) although an eventual Religion check would be 4
"Well, then let's get started!" Khessa smiles (obviously longing to go on the counterattack) "I monitor the situation with Anator's senses... You call Calvin, Zale and Zeminny in the meantime. As soon as I see the prey spying on Kriv, I go back to my body, I warn you, you cast silence and... we all go".
And, if Eric has no improvements to propose, as soon as he leaves to retrieve the other two companions, the blonde arcane warrior (as usual in an out of sight place) 'borrows' Anator's senses and watches over Kriv discreetly, as long as the cutlist doesn't return (and ends up in a secluded spot - but this I guess is the norm for him, as he tries to stay hidden).
At that point, the tall adventurer refocuses on the senses of her body and beckons her friends to spring the trap.
Upon arrival at Daggerfort, Kriv finds Zale and speaks in a hushed voice. “Zale, you know how I’ve been having all these accidents over the past few days? I think someone is after me.” He looks around to make sure nobody is listening. “Wheel came loose on the wagon I was on, horse from that wagon almost kicked me… I think that horse is trying to kill me. Just this morning, I fed him a carrot and he bit my finger.”

Makes sense; Eric doesn't know much about Silvanus. His eldritch blast has a green glow... could be nature-y?
Daggerfort has a large inn where the caravan makes their home for the night and the next day. It's also the informal meeting place for merchants who would like to join the caravan up north. When you enter it, you notice that are some individuals there. They seems glad that the caravan has arrived. Some must have been waiting for weeks!
You have the evening to yourself. Even the bodyguards, your employers feel safe in it Daggerfort.
The killer Cultist seems to leave Kriv alone for now. Maybe he's just settling in.
The killer Cultist seems to leave Kriv alone for now. Maybe he's just settling in.
Khessa does not intend to let her guard down completely: even if she tries to take advantage of the free evening to enjoy Eric's company (after all, it is a unique occasion - for once, they can spend not only some carved out moment together, but, well, the whole night together... a prospect that is rather interesting for her), she continues to make Anator observe the cultist killer, urging her brother to warn her immediately if a propitious opportunity presents itself (killer alone, hidden, spying on Kriv).
If the opportunity doesn't present itself, however, the blonde arcane warrior doesn't worry too much and enjoys her 'unique opportunity' - the killer will for sure resume the activity once they're back on the road - away from a population center he will feel more confident in not being caught. He is so smart and sneaky, after all...

Keeping an eye on the killer, you don't find him completely alone. It's just too crowded. You do notice that he's happy to know where Kriv's room is (he has a room with Zeminny provided by Edhelri Lewel).

Great! Anator, like a good nocturnal bird, will spend the night flying near Kriv and Zeminny's room and will warn Khessa if anyone tries anything unpleasant.
[[ Are you setting a trap? Or any other preperations? The room is on first floor. Killer Cultist has a room 2 doors away. ]]
Khessa already asked Eric to keep a silence spell ready - but the spell has limited duration, so I think we should cast it as soon as we get notified of the attack, not before - it could expire. Anator is on watch... I think there is no need for any other preparations, apart from getting ready to rush.
(OOC: @Companions: But don't be shy, eh? If you can think of something that didn't come to my mind, suggest it... this is not a duet...)
