Elthana Sam and Muir descend further, now in the belly of the floating island there is a static in the air. From further down the dark stone stairs and corridor they hear shouting and growls. Making their way faster and passing a few doors it isn't long before they find the cause of the noise. Sergor Hamilton is loudly arguing with the great white wolf, they both stand facing eachother in a large cathedral like cavern very similar to the one within the mountains of Hokum, this one also has unknown symbols carved into the walls though the script is different to the Fae portal room. These symbols are lighter with more looping and swooping lines and they surround a whirling light blue portal set into the middle of the floor and looking to be encrusted with gems and crystals around the rim. Wind seems to produce from the portal swirling about the room. "It has been my ward and under my protection since it's closing, we talked about this!" Yells Sergor at the wolf just before turning to see the three members of the group arrive. He withdraws slightly and looks to Elthana "I need you to go back! First door on your left, meet with Sigrid, she has been calculating our descent!"
Muir raises what would be an eye brow if he had any “Interesting since the portal closed thousands of years ago unless it has opened before and you kept that from the council as well”
Sergor flashes a bit of a warning glance at Muir, suggesting maybe he heard something he should not have, then he ignores the loxodon to continue shouting at the wolf.
Muir ignoring the glance or the social cues that come with such glances asks next “Well what seems to be the issue here? Are we all working to preserve the portal?”
Upon seeing this peculiar argument between Sergor Hamilton and the White Wolf, Sam stomps his foot and uses his ability to Mold Earth to make the ground around Sergor and the White Wolf to become difficult terrain... "Explain what is going on to use before we do something stupid due to not knowing any better!" Sam insists loudly as he's already thinking about acting in some very destructive ways.
"For the moment I am working to keep this land afloat if possible," Sam answers Muir loudly. "If nobody can tell me how that is to be done then I will start with destroying this portal..."
((As we're in a nebulous out of initiative space I'll leave it up to DM but Mold Earth is an action... If Sam could use another action or two he would draw from his Bag of Tricks. At least one... Maybe a second depending what he first draws.))
Elthana stares at Sergor and the White Wolf, and then the portal, trying to get a grips as to what is going on. After Sam makes the area difficult terrain, she puts a hand on his shoulder to try and signal him to wait a bit before doing anything else more rash.
"Where is Griff?" she demands before heading anywhere.
Sergor steps on thin air above the difficult terrain in response to Sam's action and turns to the group, "Griff is gone! Took the first chance he could to go home, was likely drawn to it. We preserve the portal for now, you couldn't destroy it if you tried you'd just destabilise this place further with your idiocy.. the wolf is here because it is his job to guard this portal from invading forces.. now back off and do what you are told! Go now!" (Sam specifically make a DC 17 wisdom saving throw)
Muir excitedly claps and tried his best to diffuse the situation“How very exciting! I will stay here and help with the portal. I have met another like the wolf. I have promised to protect the portal and prevent its destruction as it would cause a terrible ripple effect across the realm…catastrophic even. Perhaps you both can figure out how to stop the descent with this Sigurd?”
"Stay out of my mind," Sam growls and thuds the head of his maul into the ground. As he does so he uses mold earth to move earth and stone to start creating a stone barrier in front of the portal. Starting at the bottom of the magical portal portion Sam tries to flow the earth up in front of it to seal off any entry through one way or another. The barrier would be thin at first, perhaps just a quarter inch or so, with Sam trying to cover as much of the portal as possible as quickly as possible but once (if) he gets the entirety of the portal blocked by his earthworks then he would continue concentrating to thicken and strengthen the barrier...
As Sam attempts to move the stone close to the portal the symbols on the wall begin to glow and his magical grasp on those chunks fail, the wolf turns and growls warning Sam as it steps between him and the portal. "Leave it for now Sam, resilient and stubborn as always..." The difficult terrain melts away for some reason and Sergor looks confused, but steps back down onto the now solid ground regardless.
As Elthana opens the door she finds a small box shaped room covered in spell circles on each wall and the floor and the ceiling, from the center of each of these spell circles a chain extends into the middle of the room where they hold a bright white stone about 10ft around and with odd divots along the top and ridges along the sides, it crackles with a familiar energy that elthana had experienced just the other day in the portal room.
Sigrid turns and looks to Elthana with a frantic gaze, she holds her finger on the page of an old book keeping her place as she begins to talk quickly. "This is the lodestone which holds the district aloft, but since the portal opened it has been losing power, the realm of air must be siphoning it back off like a stream returning to the sea, so far it is just a trickle but it is slowly speeding up. I was out at the celebration earlier when the portals opened, and since then have calculated the islands descent." She checks a timepiece In her pocket and looks back to Elthana, "I need to check the remaining power soon and then I will have a rough calculation on how much time we have before crashing. Do you or your druid have any air based spells?"
"I asked nicely someone tell me how to keep this land floating or I'd do something stupid," Sam responds with a frown as his new little trick fails. "That one tried to brain whammy me. You are now standing in front of me. I still have no answer and I'm growing stupider by the moment..." With his spells gone Sam will reach into his Bag of Tricks and pull out a ball of fur and toss it to his left summoning Boris, his Giant Boar.
"Its always the same with you people, you demand something and then when shown the way you ardently refuse, playing the victim unless you get something spoon fed directly to you! Go ahead, get stupider, at this point It could only be impressive..." The white wolf growls at Sam once more and then surprisingly barks a warning at Sergor too, he responds with a transparently faux defensiveness, "oh I'm not goading by any means, this one makes all conversations as volatile as this, it's simply his nature. Gods knows what Elthana sees in him" (Sam roll insight for me)
Muir appears from the shadows “Please Sam listen to me if not them. If this portal closes it won’t stop the inevitable. Another will open causing even more damage to this city. You care for the poor and hard working folk below as I do. If you close this portal I can’t tell you how many of their lives will be lost. It’s why I said get them to the woods….”
Sam spares Muir a dubious glance. He had said woods to get the citizenry away from attackers coming through the portal... Now he says it was in case the portal closes? Sam just cannot trust the Loxodon.
Sam eyes the White Wolf. "You people?" Sam responds in a growl of his own. "Racism is never a good look..."
Eyeing Sergor Sam adds "Your mind attack was all the goading needed..."
Meanwhile Sam pulls and drops a second ball of fur... and Órga shakes herself out to full size with a roar.
Muir tries one last time to plead with Sam “Sam think of the people you champion. If you perish here fighting them what good will this bring. They’ll need you whether the portal closes or stays opened…friend or foe emerge, treasury crashes down or stays up…..Please Sam….”
Seeing Nef's predicament, Gewyn runs ahead of Vin a few steps, hands out in front of him. "Whoa there, hey fellas, what seems to be the problem here? I see you've got the hound a little agitated, but it's okay, we can help figure this out. Relax"
Gewyn's speaks with confidence and calm (persuasion 20), but layers his last word with magic directed at one of the monks, so as not to take chances. "There's a lot going on here. and your attentions are surely needed elsewhere, so let's let Vin here diffuse this dog situation. Vin?" He waves Vin forward, watching for the monks' responses

Anger ripples off of Elthana as Sergor yells at them. She hears Muir but doesn't comment, just spins on her heel and heads off towards Sigrid.

Muir scratches his head “Uhh what was the question maybe I can answer where the others won’t”
