You are approaching the entrance of the castle. Some guards open the doors so you can walk in.
(That seems like an odd place to leave it... 😉 Are you waiting on an action from us? We're being led inside by Rolan and Thorin. I guess I expected someone to take us to our rooms, maybe give us an info dump, and then we'd figure out what to do next once we're alone. Exchange ideas, read the hobgoblin note, and maybe finally try to get a look at the king's personal room.)
I guess Rain walks inside?
BTW, are these the same castle guards from earlier? Is there any evidence of the goblin attack outside? (Perception7)
I walk through, and check for anything suspicious (not necessarily related to the earlier attack, but for anything that's openly dangerous for us) Perception: 18

Will everyone stop calling him "The Demogorgon"? It's his name, not a title!
I think that you originally wanted to have a party with 4-5 members. You recruited Ghurk to the group, which helps our melee front line, but are you still trying to recruit another couple of characters? Spell casters and clerics? Or maybe just a few more melee characters, and we'll have fun figuring out how to stay alive while we overwhelm the enemy with brute force?
Or are you going to try to run this adventure with just 3 party members? I mean, you know what's involved in this adventure, and you can always tweak the difficulty level. So far, the party doesn't have that much information. Do you want us to trust you to take the party along for a ride? Or are you one of those DMs who happily kills the whole party because we didn't ask the right questions before walking into a dragon's den? I don't want to slow down your preferred pace by asking a lot of unnecessary questions, but I also don't want to go along for the ride and land in pit of acid!)
(I'll see if I can get another guy, it's just hard for someone to show up in the middle of the campaign. Also, I give the players a chance to win without making it insane, but I do like a good challenge. Don't worry, shouldn't be too crazy.)
You enter the castle and Rolan escorts you to your rooms. "Right there, there are 6 rooms here. I suggest choosing some next to each other. Also, the one on the end is mine."
(I'll see if I can get another guy, it's just hard for someone to show up in the middle of the campaign. Also, I give the players a chance to win without making it insane, but I do like a good challenge. Don't worry, shouldn't be too crazy.)
(OK. It's up to you: I know that it's a burden for you to recruit and screen new members. I just wanted to check in to see whether we're still waiting for someone else to join or whether we are the party. I'm fine with just the 3 of us as long as we're not heading straight into an encounter like: "Oops! These enemies are immune to non-magical attacks, and neither Rain nor Ghurk can deal any damage, and there's no way to escape. I guess you should have found a warlock! TPK!!!"
FYI - At level 2, Rain is currently planning to learn Hunter's Mark and Goodberry. The former will just help him pile on the damage in melee and ranged combat. The latter provides some healing between short rests. I guess we could also force a berry down an unconscious party member's throat to keep them alive. It's also a way to bank some healing power for tomorrow if Rain has any unused spell slots before today's long rest. Goodberry can also the group avoid exhaustion from lack of food and maybe water. Anyway, Rain will be able to provide some healing support soon, but it's definitely not a replacement for a true cleric.
Alternatively, I guess we could play multiple characters since we're already in this PbP campaign. But it seems like that could introduce other problems with trying to keep all of the party's characters on equal footing, especially since PbP has a kind of weird rhythm already. It might work better if all of us played 2 characters, yielding a party of 6, instead of having just one of us juggle a couple of characters. If we all want to focus on our current characters, we could make these extra characters more boring, generic builds: "I'm just your standard gnomish wizard with detect magic and magic missile." I've started playing around with a wizard or sorcerer build. But I'm less familiar with the other spell-caster classes.)
(The game is adjusted to fit the party, and I think it's just you three players. You could maybe all have a second character, I don't think that'll ruin anything.)
You enter the castle and Rolan escorts you to your rooms. "Right there, there are 6 rooms here. I suggest choosing some next to each other. Also, the one on the end is mine."
(Could we get a sketch of the layout of the rooms? Each room has a door? They're all on the second story at the top of the stairs?)
Rain looks into each room (other than Rolan's, of course) to see whether any of them have a window to the outside. He is used to sleeping outdoors or maybe in a stable. He wonders whether he'll be able to fall asleep in a room with no view of the sky, especially if the bed isn't just a tick mattress filled with leaves, straw, or wood chips. He'll pick one of the rooms with a window, if that's possible. If they're all the same, he'll pick the room that's directly across from or directly next to Rolan's.
At the top of the stairs is a long and narrow hallway, with six rooms all along the left side. Each room is the same, and has a large soft bed, a large window, a dresser, and some expensive decorations. As for Rolan's room, we don't know what it looks like, other than his door is shiny blue instead of red and there is a small crystal eye in the middle of the door (which is looking around?).

(OOC: another note / suggestion for the DM.
It will help the game flow better if you acknowledge each of these types of speculative skill checks or "if this, then my character does that" actions. If there's nothing to find, or there was something to find, but we didn't notice anything, you can just quote reply or multi-quote reply to say: "no one notices anything out of the ordinary." Or when the "if this" condition never happened, feel free to fill in some reasonable description for my character when you post. For example, "Rain glances at the door to the King's personal room with curiosity, but with so many guards around, he just follows the group into the dining hall."
Like I said, PbP has a weird rhythm with some lag between posts, and sometimes new posts actually appear while I'm typing my post. When you just move on to the next scene without acknowledging those questions / checks / actions, it's actually unclear to me whether you saw the post. For example, in this case, did you miss 87306's post, or was there simply nothing to find? Similar issue yesterday when Rain checked the room under the fountain before he climbed up the ladder. It's not a big problem right now, and I assumed that you were just trying to move things along. But when we get into stickier situations later, it'll be faster if we don't have to ask for clarification to make sure you saw our previous post and then wait for a reply from the DM before we can choose our action in the next turn.
Hopefully that makes sense. I've been working with remote teams for a decade, and there's are similar problems with asynchronous communication in work environments, too!)
You notice nothing at all suspicious, other than it is a little weird that Rolan has a moving crystal eye on his door and a ringing sound from inside his room.
A slight flashing of bluish light from under Rolan's door. "Get rest, everyone. I just have something to do real quick, then I'll sleep too." More flashing from under the door.
(Is Rolan's room the first one at the top of the stairs? Or the last room at the end of the hallway?)
Rain stops and looks at the crystal 'eye'. He says, "What's this, hey?", as he touches it with his left ring finger.
If nothing weird happens, he tries moving his finger to see whether he can make the 'eye' aim in different directions.
As described above, Rain will take the room next to Rolan's.
The eye looks around suspiciously down the hall. In a very creepy way, the eye drops to the ground, revealing 4 spidery legs. It looks at the group, then climbs back up onto the door and digs its legs into the doorway.
(And this my first time doing anything dnd, so...)
